Double Villa or Newcastle defence on wildcard gameweek 8? I know Villa have been suspect defensively but the fixtures and attacking threat the full backs offer makes me wonder it might be a gamble worth taking…

Villa aren't that solid at the back to justify "double defence" in the abstract or including Pau/Konsa, but Digne & Cash sounds way better to me than Botman & Schar/Burn

Maybe you saw this already but this is all I have...

"His injury was very hard,” Emery admitted. “He's been better and better, but he is not feeling 100 per cent comfortable to play.

“We decided to stop some days, maybe one week or two weeks. Hopefully he is being close again to being in the squad."

I'm tempted just for the fun of it. Currently have it on Haaland but might change.

IF Luton score (big 'IF'), Morris will be involved. He's on pens, a threat from set pieces, and tends to get a shot or two off a game. 50/50 for me right now

For the record I think Haaland will outscore Morris (obviously) (then again Morris outscored Haaland this week). But this year I'm trying to take more risks, go with my gut, and generally have more fun with the game, and Morris is defo the fun option.

Anybody else thinking about selling Haaland in GW8?

In know it is unpopular and maybe too soon. However, it would give some financial freedom for Salah, TAA, Tripps, Son, Saka, Darwin, etc. all.at once.

It seems that he is not in that form of last season anymore and he is lacking support from KDB, Gündogan and even Cancelo. Plus, Teams have found out how to take him out for 99% of the game. Of course, he will keep scoring and there is a risk, but I feel the big hauls will be limited this season.

You know what... I've started to think about it.

Darwin is tempting and it frees up all constraints budget wise. Can buy anyone I want. But realistically, you don't need to. There's enough value around that you can still keep Haaland and make it work.

Folks said the same thing at the start of the season with one premium Haaland setup.

Sounds like you are basing your thoughts on Haaland's output rather than underlyings as he has been very unfortunate with the number of missed big chances. I would find it difficult to go against.

Well. But that's the point, he is missing that chances and it is getting worse.

Also, fixtures were quite easy so far, but that is changing now soon and the XG will drop. Then there is this stupid Blank Week in December on top.of that.

I would.probably bring him back in when Salah is going to play for Egypt in January (Africa Cup of Nations) or maybe even before during the crunch time around Xmas.

He's still got the most points this season even if he's not scoring hat tricks every week, and 92.5% owned with the vast majority captaining him every week.

Premium defenders aren't worth it over Haaland's output. I already have Salah, Maddison, Saka and Bruno F as well as Haaland, which more than covers what i'd gain from Botman --> Trippier, or Estupinan --> TAA.

        Maybe not yet.

Tripps already showed his potential over Botman yesterday. And TAA teamed up extremely well with Salah and Darwin so far when all three were on the pitch.

But you are right, as long as Estu, Botman, Cash, Udogie, etc..are delivering, no.obvious need to go all-in.

Yeah the thing for me is how there are plenty of good value defenders and mids. I could see it becoming viable if Utd improve (making Bruno/Rashford essential) and Son continues his good form. In that case you could get Haaland out and have Bruno, Son, Salah, Trent, Trippier, maybe even the likes of Reese James later in the season, which might be more viable than a hot/cold Haaland.

Don't forget Hojlund who.might start to impress soon.

And that's the other benefit of removing Haaland, I.e. more space for striker options such as Watkins, Darwin, Isak, who are all going to have a great run of fixtures between GW9 and GW14 or beyond.

            1. mwa1t

Yep. Might mock up a GW9 WC without him just to see what it looks like. Always just feels like an unnecessary risk when everyone owns him. A forward line of Watkins, Darwin, Isak could easily underscore Haaland on any given week. Haaland, while expensive, gives you consistency

Can you elaborate on "Teams have found out how to take him out for 99% of the game"? He's never been one to be as involved in a game like someone like Harry Kane or Firmino who drop back or into midfield to get the ball so I don't get that. In the last 5 games he's accumulated 8.1xG, and he's basically always outperformed xG over the course of the season. He scored a hattrick against Fulham and had only 17 touches, 2 against Burnley with only 18 touches.

To be honest, you are absolutely right about the stats. However, five fairly easy opponents and Newcastle (when he blanked).

For me it just looks like he is not that sharp anymore and involved since the other teams play two defenders against him.

Well. I guess we shall see soon.

        1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
          • 5 Years

That's fair. I had a similar thought myself early on this season, but if you look at all of his finishes against Fulham you can see he's there, just seems to be having these odd games where he's missing easier chances. I'd imagine he'll go back to finishing them off sooner rather than later

Also he did blank against Newcastle but that seemed like a pure fluke, could have had 3 or 4 that day (was the same case against them early in the season at SJP last season too)

I'm now convinced son will be the main striker for The foreseeable. Even yesterday when BJ left the pitch Solomon came on. Son has proved himself upfront too. Should easily by priced at 10.5 plus as an OOP forward. I've had patience with rashford for 6 weeks but finally given in. With Maddison and son hopefully ive got spurs penos covered too

Ive done it lastnight. Im a united fan but rashford just looks so off it at the minute. Difficult to resist an OOP Son whos getting fed by an attacking spurs side. Can easily get Bruno after the brentford game instead. Palace defence has also been decent so far so hopefully Son can match him this week.

I've got Chilwell and Sterling and a free transfer.

Should I take a hit and remove them both or give Sterling another chance? On the other hand I could bench Chil this week and swap Sterling for Bowen.... Or could just sell Chil for fodder and bank the savings....

Not sure what to do. Help!

There's no need to sell Chilwell urgently assuming you got him at 5.5. You won't suffer any price drops unless he drops to 5.4 and your other 4 defenders can cover for the next few weeks until Brighton's fixtures become good and you can bring in Estupinan.

You could also stick with Sterling for one more week and roll the transfer but I think the move to Bowen will be better for this week and for the long term as well.

your defence is fine, so Chilwell could hold off another week as even if he drops then you should still have him at 5.5, if that's what you got him at. Sterling is likely to drop very soon, so i would make that move personally

  10. CRAZY TRAIN

Looking at West Ham assets ahead of GW7 and sacrificing Eze for Bowen looks the obvious move. JWP is a cheaper option and allows investment elsewhere (i.e. Morris were I tempted to take a hit!). Looking at playing my WC GW8 or 9 though so reluctant the take the hit, so Bowen looks like the right move and would set my team up for GW7 as follows:

    Pickford (Turner)
    Estupinan Kabore Borman (Baldock Gusto)
    Salah Saka Son Maddison Bowen
    Haaland Alvarez (Osula)

Is there any case against doing it?

Thanks. JWP does allow a good upgrade in defence on Gusto or Balcock (probably the latter as I bought in Gusto at 4m). Cash possibly, although seems 1 week too soon to bring in Villa players.

2 FT's. Chilwell on the block, but for whom? can't stretch to Trip, shall I go with another NEW def?

    Areola (Leno)
Botman / Chilwell / Cash / Luton Anderson (Udogie)
Diaby / Salah / Saka / Mbeumo (Maddison)
    Alvarez / Haaland

True - there's probably even a case for Estupinan being a bit of a safer pick (given his record of consistent attacking returns). Coin toss on this particular case really.

After playing very conservatively whole season ie WC in hand and no hits so far I'm one transfer away from the team ive been targetting. Did rashford to son and now have 0.7 to upgrade Kabore to Gabriel(or cash if he doesnt rise further) next week
    Giving me

    Areola (Turner)
    Gabriel Estu Udogie Botman (3.9)
    Salah Saka Son Maddison Mbuemo
    Haaland Alvarez (Archer)

Will have 0.0 in the bank so will need to continue with Areola playing week in week out which I can always correct with a Mbuemo to Neto/Jwp downgrade.

No questions tbh. I'm just really happy with this team after chiseling away for weeks and I just wanted to post it 🙂

    1 FT and 0.6 ITB.

Thinking of doing Mbuemo > Bowen/JWP this week and Rash > Maddison next week. Good plan or should I just roll? Forest away isn't that easy for Brentford who might have gone off the boil a bit.

    Onana
    Botman - Trippier - Ruben
    Son - Saka - Mitoma - Rashford - Mbuemo
    Haaland - Alvarez

    Turner - Estu - Archer - Baldock

Hmm yeah didn't consider Salah actually. Depends how much you want him really - if you consider him essential going forward, maybe WC is the way. You can still have a very solid team without him

I'd save it for a time when some of the more significant players don't look like good long-term options anymore. Vast majority of your team looks good medium- long-term currently.

I can't tell if i'm enjoying the game so much at the moment because my rank is decent or because the pricing seems to be making lots of different strategies viable.

I'd like to think it's the latter; it's most likely heavily to do with the former.

        Yep.

I do think the pricing of midfielders in particular this year has made some interesting strategy choices, though. Also the Salah dilemma has lead people to go down very different routes in terms of the structure of their teams.

Do you need Alvarez >> Morris to afford the other transfers? Morris is only good for next week, after that he's not a great option. Alvarez >> Awoniyi or Edouard as an alternative? There are a few 5.5 - 6.5 forwards who are better options than Morris after GW7

In the last two weeks I've lost out on 14pts through poor benching decisions. Last week benched Alvarez instead of Mbeumo and this week benched Maddison and played Sterling, both seemed like 50/50s at the time!

    1. Rojo's Modern Life

Sounds like poor squad selection. You should never be benching attacking players of that quality. My perma bench is a 4.5 striker.

My bench is really cheap this year - got burned by making the wrong choices too many times last season. I don't even want the options anymore lol

Both have a pretty slim chance of a CS, which is why i'd go Cash. Andersen may have a slightly better chance of a CS, but Cash has a much better shot at attacking returns.

I'd probably go Cash, although it's close for me. Palace could be one of the games where Andersen is a threat going forward given ManUtd's issues at CB (and general defensive issues). It's generally a pretty tight fixture, last 5 (from a Palace point of view) read 0-0, 0-1, 1-0, 1-1, 1-2

      1. mwa1t

Chances of an Andersen attacking return is much lower than Cash's imo

Not sure, but are we underestimating the price rises by the time some of us play the WC in GW 9 or 10 and won't be able to get an optimum team?

    1. Nate(U)dog(ie)

Only worry I'd have is that this week seems to have jolted a lot of people into wildcarding here. However two things to note with that: 1) this place is only one small fraction out of a massive player base, and 2) the more wildcards in play the less price changes you're likely to see since WCs don't affect them
