What are your FPL resolutions for 2024?

Stop benching 2746262 points a week.
Stop selling players who then turn into Messi.
Stop buying players who turn to mush when I buy them.

The secret to not selling players who then turn into Messi, is to not buy McNeil in the first place

No more stupid hits. The next one will be the last. Or at least one of the last.

And no more mucking around with goalies. I’m through with the whole lot of them

You were pretty lucky with your penalty goal for Luiz but you don't focus on it when it goes your way.

I don’t know, to be 8 points down on benching an asset with a better fixture for a better team is a bit unlucky imo

            Or a bit stupid?

            What's unlucky about that?

In hindsight you can say stupid, but what if the returns are were the other way round?

Then it would have been stupid to bench Luiz.
It’s not like I started someone like Brownhill over him

                In your own words...

"benching an asset with a better fixture for a better team is a bit unlucky imo"

                It's pointless.

This must be a psychological thing- I have the same problem, I’m still annoyed about my bad transfers and benchings and not all the good ones. I guess it’s part of what makes this game stressful but addictive

Doubt I'll stick to it but not to make decisions on the 'FPL herd that's now amplified by content creators'

I was so close to doing archer > alvarez & bench palmer. All content creators were getting alvarez some even captaining. He was most transfered in & an alvarez hatrick would mean massive red arrow.

Repost from bottom or last article

With Kudus going away for a few weeks and Paqueta potentially injured will this effect Bowen as a FPL option?
Contemplating bringing him in but concerned about the above
    Any thoughts?

Well like a proper vindaloo, everything goes through him. Having said that, a weakened team is a weakened team. Hopefully they his will simply give others an opportunity to step up.

I doubt it, Cornet & Fornals to step in. Plus like you said it's potential for Paqueta and the next GW isn't for three weeks so plenty of rest for him if he does have a slight knock

Was wondering this too. Losing 3 of the front 4 at once must have a substantial impact. How do we even see them lining up?

      Bowen Fornals Cornet
      ------- Antonio -----

Maybe with 3 good fixtures it might not matter too much. But maybe they'll struggle to break down SHU without Paqueta as creativity vs a low block has already been something of an issue

Yeah they're losing half of their first team outfield.

Don't mind that really. I'm trying to ignore EO this season so would have acquiesced despite it being a bit of a dull move if they were still near full-strength, but high EO for a player I think might underperform is the classic recipe for opportunity

          Alternatively;

          Ings

To add AGAIN. Kudus is available on Jan 2nd. Next PL game isn't until 21st Jan (so 19 days - just shy of three weeks recovery for Paqueta, depending on the severity of his injury. Given he played and walked off unaided I'd say he'll be fine, worst case he's back for BOU in GW22 (1st Feb). That's literally a whole month of recovery.

            So 2nd Jan's game should be something like;

            Soucek, Alvarez
            Kudus, JWP, Benrahma/Fornals
            Bowen

GW21; check the teams I posted above in this comment response

                1 year, 12 months ago

I'm mentioning the 2nd of Jan because 1) you'll get an insight to how West Ham play without Paqueta (if injured) but with Kudus and 2) to say, think of how far away the next fixture is?

      4. bench boost for every gamew…
        • 8 Years
        1 year, 12 months ago

Paqu is a big miss if he's out. But Moyes system is pretty set, so you'd imagine players like Fornals, Antonio etc will be decent enough. Cornet have not played for a long time but ceiling is high, he's a bit like for like Kudus, not same level of course. Antonio could be back,Bowen In his preferred position down the right.
There is an outside chance if Paqu is out that Bowen could take pens. Would suspect it'll be JWP bit he isn't that good 18 out of 24.

    5. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 5 Years

It will definitely have an impact but you'd hope not much. In any case Paqueta has 3 weeks to recover for GW21 and sounds like Kudus is available this GW, so it's mostly about them getting Antonio fit (or trying to work with Ings or someone else)

          New set up is one break, where the one GW week runs across two weeks;
          CHE/FUL/NEW/MCI/EVE/AVL/MUN/TOT/BUR/LUT all play weekend of 13/14 + Mon 15
          ARS/CRY/BRE/NFO/SHU/WHU/BOU/LIV/BHA/WOL all play weekend of 20/21 + Mon 22

So the former teams get the second half of the month "off" and the latter teams get the first half of the month "off"

Mate you've got to let it go.

I looked at your team and presumably Luiz is the player you started instead of him, unless you were dropping Saka.

In which case all this anguish for 8 points in a fantasy game.

What's most annoying is you harping on about it and being self indulgent saying Palmer was lucky....

... and you were unlucky when in fact the 10 points for Luiz were fairly lucky in exchange.

Well that would be difficult considering fodder like Maguire & Lamptey have been on in most of the season 😆

The amount of times I’ve benched the wrong choice out of 2 between Palmer & Mbeumo/5th mid is ridiculous…

Brentford away - benched Mbeumo, played Palmer.
Palmer blanks and Mbeumo gets a goal, assist and max bonus

                    United away - Play Mbeumo.
                    Palmer gets goal and bonus

                    Spurs away - Play Mbeumo.
Palmer gets goal, assist and 3 bonus.

I'm one of those Palmer benchers and of course it stings. But it is what it is. Still think it was the best decision. Outcome a bit of an outlier. Took his second goal well, but the first two returns you kind of can't predict 0.08 XGI total.
I can understand that people wants to share the pain though. I see it just as something that's out of my hands, and hopefully I have a player that also gets served a goal on a platter

FPL towers need to remove the red flags from Salah, Son & Co IMMEDIATELY. They're going to block price drops drastically by having them red flagged. Joke game.

Posted the above on previous thread didn't get a chance to respond. They're not even gone yet, they might not even go, Salah could get injured on NYD that puts him in doubt for the tournament but not out long enough that he misses too many PL games. They shouldn't be trying to block the price drops like this, not until they've actually left for international duty and certainly NOT during an existing gameweek where it looks like (to the casual player) he's now not going to play this week!

Exactly. Someone might get an injury that rules them out for say a month which means only missing one PL GW but basically the entire group stage of AFCON or AFC and thus they're back sooner than expected, or they might turn around and decide not to go and play for their respective countries whatever the reason.

Absolute rubbish. Not everyone knows about African Nations and Asian Cup like us so it's to let people know and not transfer them in for GW21. There shouldn't be a problem with that.

Usually flags only apply after the player has played their current match. They are early on these ones.

Yes but that is because we already know they are unavailable for the next GW. You can buy players for next GW which mean they should be flagged immediately.

Yes but usually they wait until after the player has played the current game week. For example, when a player is on loan from a Prem club and can't play in the next game FPL don't flag them straight away. As mentioned above, Salah might pick up and injury and not go to Afcon at all yet. FPL are early on the flag, that's all.

In fact I even read recently players can refuse to play in these tournaments and stay and play for their clubs. Unlikely but possible.

If he's injured and doesn't go to Afcon then he won't play the next game anyway so it's irrelevant. I honestly don't see a problem and don't see the point in waiting til after they have played. Like I said, it's to make people aware early that they are unavailable for GW21 and not to buy them.

I understand what you're saying but it's not what FPL normally do. They usually wait until after the game. By doing it this early they've likely slowed the possible price changes, so it has had some impact. Deliberate probably as you say, but they shouldn't change the way they do things half way through a season. Not sure if true but someone below mentions they haven't even flagged every player unavailable next week.

Yeh but that makes no sense. Obviously they wait til after a game normally to flag a player as they don't have a crystal ball and know in advance if they get injured or suspended. This is a different scenario and we know before the game is played so why not flag them? It's not like it affects the current GW. The flag is for next GW, not this one.

They could change to do this going forward yes. I wouldn't mind as long as they was consistent. Again though, what you've said is not what normally happens. That's the point of this post. You may think it doesn't matter flagging a player now but when it comes to the price changes it does.

yes but why don't they make it known all players are available or not before the games are played. I've had players lose value on suspension because they maintained the red flag until the team had played the current week. If people knew he was available they might have bought him or not sold depending. It works both ways

I agree, but it's clear to me the price changes have a human input too (although no one around these parts ever seems to want to admit it). Do we even know what will happen with the likes of Salah and Son's prices? Their ownership could plummet in the coming weeks, but will their prices drop?

I get what you mean, but if they're mass sold then their prices should drop because it's (seemingly) how the game is played. Granted I get your point if they don't drop in price people are less likely to lose them for two to three GWs because of the investment/value they have tied up in them and they funds they'd lose bringing them back in if the sold

Not ideal but if we’re stressing about losing to the casuals then more effort should be put into breaking the top 1m. Ultimately it’s a level playing field so creates a decision about selling them and losing value or holding them and getting an edge in Feb

You mention selling them and losing value - but do we know that will be the case? How do we not know they won't drop in price?

One concern I have is that FPL may hold their price now and then when lots are buying them back their prices rocket up further. That wouldn't feel right.

Either way mate everyone is in the same boat and have the same decision around holding for team value or selling for short term gains.

I’d be more upset if I benched Palmer this week

Everyone is in the same boat now but won't be in Feb. Some will hold, some will sell.

If you hold and they plummet in price I imagine you'd be unhappy. If you sell and they hold price I imagine you'd be unhappy, and the opposites. It's the not knowing what's going to happen that's the killer.

But we are, we have the info to make the decisions. Sell, spread the money for short term upside and then understand you’ll need to make sacrifices to get them back. Or bench them. I don’t know how this is an uneven playing field. Apart from trying to get a lazy leg up against the non-engaged managers which quite frankly if you’re losing to them halfway through then maybe you’re not going to enjoy FPL regardless

That is not true. Show me the rule that says they have to work this way? If a manager comes out after deadline before the game has been played and says he is out he gets flagged regardless of wether the game as started or not and how quick FPL are to respond. You should know that players are rarely flagged before their GW has even concluded. When Paqueta got injured in the line up why wasn't he flagged before kick-off? When he come off in the 32nd minute why wasn't he flagged then? Why was he only flagged after his game?

Kudus even ROSE in price yesterday but he's not flagged.
Bissouma only flagged for suspension (guess that's guaranteed)

I used this list and then checked whose flagged from cross referencing. Some are flagged, some aren't, but the big players are.

How does them being red block price drops? Aren't they more likely to drop in price since they're red and thus more casuals will transfer them out?

How do you suggest they indicate that a player might not play next week because of international duty instead?

      1. Zenith UK
        • 9 Years

I can't remember the ruling/reasoning but basically takes more transfers when plays are red flagged for them to drop. Take a look at players who have been injured all season and been mass removed etc, their prices have barely budged.

I suggest they wait for the players fixture in this GW to be completed then they wait for the registration deadlines to be completed (for AFCON it's the 3rd of January) not make presumptions in advance.

I agree with Zenith that they are flagged too early. Until they are confirmed 100% as leaving then they should not be flagged. It has been done based on expectation.

It is strange how they've flagged them early before they've even played.

When a player can't play against his parent club & is red flagged. That flag ALWAYS has come on after that players team has played.

The games fixed, Haaland loses 40% ownership & hardly drops!
The 50% left probably dead teams anyway!

The players away should drop & probably will but slower rate than usual.

I think the Villa v Burnley game shows that VAR needs to go, utterly pointless if they can't get those decisions correct, in particular the Carlos handball and penalty decision were the most clear and obvious mistakes you could ever see. Life and football would be a lot better off without it.

    1. ebb2sparky

It doesn't need to go. It just needs to be done differently. Clear and obvious was the point and they've completely forgotten that. I'd like it to go more like cricket. Each captain should get 3 reviews and also VAR steps in automatically if its an absolute shocker of a decision from the ref

You say football would be better off without it yet you're not happy about the decisions which would have been no different without VAR as they were the on field decisions.

But the difference is without VAR it would be more acceptable since human’s make mistakes.
The whole point in VAR is to use technology to easily identify and rectify errors, but it’s not being utilised in a way to ensure that happens, so we might as well not have it.

The counter to this though is that they haven't got a single decision wrong via VAR that wasn't again a human error.

On the handball...it bounced off his thigh and onto the hand while he was running, they usually ignore those.
On the penalty...he was kicked on the bottom of his foot, which I think is a soft penalty, 50/50 for me. But since the on field ref gave it I think it's correct to not overrule.

Nothing controversial at all to me.

For me at least, VAR is killing football and ruining it as a spectacle. I expect one day when there are sensors in the ball and on the players we might get some of the fluidity back but spending 5+ minutes deliberating over the most minute detail is hardly entertainment.

It's probably best or just keep the dubious decision making on field rather than introducing more human error with re-referring.

Just do goal line and touch line technology if feasible and automated offside.

Hwang could/should have matched Palmer, Wolves were excellent and Chelsea are utterly pants, and one could argue that Palmer was gifted a goal and an assist so I made the right decision.

What I would do is to have at least a VC on one from the first game. That's actually Palmer, so I would, if you have him that is,either VC or captain him. We will probably also get som clue about City since they play away in evening same day.

Might be the only time it's worth captaining someone on the first game of the GW, if we get early team news and you're sure he's playing.
Anything can happen a week from that deadline. Illness, injury or personal matter. More time passing, more uncertainty.

I don't know the story but I was pretty sure prior to the season starting Cash wouldn't be a nailed pick in Emery's preferred system and he got lucky slightly by Mings, Carlos and Moreno being injured leaving Emery with very few options. Pretty safe to say he's out of the picture now as Emery is picking Lenglet over him and keeping Konsa at rb.

maybe he comes back in then but my hunch is it'll be Konsa Pau (if fit) Carlos Moreno most of the time

I expect that to be Emery's first choice back 4. Cash may play RB when Kamara is available as he can drop into defence when Cash attacks on the right side

Cant decide if 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 is the better structure, mates.
Salah will be changed to Bowen soon but can decide if I should keep the 3-5-2 predominant formation or buy Haaland in for Acher and xchangr Son to someone like Garnacho or Luiz.

We will also have Toney back soon. Then again KDB can also impact our choices soon. What are your plans?

1ft and 1.5m in the bank.

    Areola
    TAA Porro Konsa Gusto
    Salah* Saka Foden Palmer
    Watkins Alvarez

    Leno Taylor Archer Son*

    Salah to Bowen after GW?

3-4-3 during AFCON and Asia Cup as we've lost the best two midfield options and 3-5-2 means I'd have to sell Salah and Son which I might do anyway but not 100% committed. Probably be back to 3-5-2 long term

    Out

    Son
    Salah
    Alvarez
    Gordon
    Trippier

    In

    Bowen
    Ricarlison
    Foden
    Estupinian
    Haaland

    Worth a -16????

not worth it, don't know for sure Haaland is back. Estupinan needs to be given a game or two to prove he won't just get another setback. Richarlison is Richarlison. Foden and Bowen for Salah/Son/Gordron is probably fine

Yes Foden and Bowen for Son and Salah for free. Leave Alvarez and put Haaland in the following week.

Wouldn't expect City to field a strong lineup in FA Cup particularly given lower league opposition. Don't expect Haaland to feature either way

Kudos not making it for Tuesday night, 2.1.24.

Will get a chance to see how Bowen and the team performs in his absence.

Also a bit unlucky for West Ham that the TV fixture and international federation makes them miss him but Salah can play on Monday night.

    ---

West Ham set to be without Mohammed Kudus for their game against Brighton - Ghana demanding the forward joins their camp. If Paqueta’s out as well, along with Antonio, not sure how Moyes adjusts. New year, new Ings.

Oh, he's not flagged yet I don't think but we did know this was possible last week.

Chris Houghton is the Ghana manager I think.

People do love to nitpick a process ...

This should be a key consideration when thinking about transfers over this period. How will the teams cope without their players who have gone? I wouldn't be going near Spurs myself without Son and Maddison and given the defensive issues. Slightly dubious about Liverpool in attack minus Salah too.

Yeah I was wondering about Spurs too. Already have Richarlison & was considering Kulusevski but I'm a little put off by whoever that 4th attacker is going to be. Gil has been so wasteful, and if its Lo Celso instead that would presumably push Kulu out wide again

    Salah/Son replacements

Jota, Saka/Ødegaard (probably Saka for me, given underlying numbers), Bowen (unsure about WHU with a few players missing)

    DLuiz/Bailey, Kulu, Groß (fixtures alone!).

    Anyone else?

And not yellow flagging Kudos when he was a doubt for Tuesday in gw20.

They've likely red flagged the higher owned players to avoid criticism of any transfer in.

But it's inconsistent in a few ways.
