The results of the midweek FA Cup fourth-round replays are significant for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers.

The quarter-finals of the FA Cup are on the same weekend as Gameweek 29, so there’ll be scheduled league fixtures postponed as a result of that clash.

And with many of the surviving big boys being given favourable draws in the round of 16, it could be quite a big Blank Gameweek.

But Chelsea’s win over Aston Villa on Wednesday means that we now know three Premier League fixtures will go ahead as planned.

Here’s the lowdown.

FA CUP FIFTH ROUND DRAW

  • Blackburn vs Newcastle
  • Chelsea vs Leeds
  • Bournemouth vs Leicester
  • Liverpool vs Southampton
  • Nottingham Forest vs Manchester United
  • Wolves vs Brighton
  • Coventry vs Maidstone
  • Luton vs Manchester City

(Premier League clubs in bold)

FPL BLANK GAMEWEEK 29 SUMMARY

The draw for the first round of the 2019/20 FFS Cup

So, three Gameweek 29 fixtures are confirmed as unaffected by the FA Cup clash that weekend.

It’s very plausible that we get as many as six blanks, with seven being the maximum.

If all goes to plan in terms of the bookies’ favourites, the following fixtures will be the only ones going ahead in Gameweek 29:

  • Fulham v Spurs
  • Burnley v Brentford
  • West Ham v Aston Villa
  • Luton v Nottm Forest

To get seven blanks, we’d need to see wins for Newcastle, Chelsea, Bournemouth, Liverpool, Brighton, Man Utd and Luton in the FA Cup fifth round.

WHEN WILL WE KNOW FOR SURE WHICH GAMEWEEK 29 FIXTURES ARE GOING AHEAD?

We won’t know about the confirmed blanks until the midweek before Gameweek 27, when the FA Cup fifth round takes place.

People with both Haaland and KDB will be rushing to get Salah in GW27 or maybe even GW25. Is it worth it to get KDB for just 2-3 gameweeks? I have Alvarez, Foden & Haaland and I'm very much tempted to hold onto these three and not go for KDB. What are your thoughts?

    1. Nate(U)dog(ie)

I was setting myself up for Salah then but I don't think I'll be doing it now given he'll likely blank in GW29 too. GW30 seems the right time

I think if he doesn't play in 24 it'll be a big gamble getting him for 25 in the hope he plays something in the double before he blanks in 26. I can see them working back from the cup final and building up his minutes in the double.

Got three flagged players, two out for month more still, Konsa, Sanchez & Gordon.

    Toying with A or B

A Solanke, Gordon > Adebayo, Foden

    B Sanchez, Konsa > Doughty/Bradley, Neto/Pickford/Kaminski

Looks like I'll have zero players for GW29.

Wanted to save my FH for a double but I may be forced to use it for 29. Unless I try and dead end my team and get a few in leading up to it.

    Anyone else in same boat?

Free hitting into 29 makes more sense to me because its mainly players I wouldn't want to be owning long-term whereas a double gameweek you're probably mainly targeting the good teams anyway who you're happier to hold

Yeah, i think for now you just attack the upcoming doubles and see what happens with regards to the fixtures in 29. I don't think using a FH in 29 will be a disaster if forced to.

Currently I have 3 from those 8 teams that are likely to play in week 29. It will be a reluctant use of the free hit but I guess I'd have to. It will be a lot better for the FH if Man U v Sheff U is on.

Yea it seems the way the fixs have fallen, FH29 makes most sense. Even if you plan not to FH, come GW deadline, FOMO will make you hit it when you see you have like 4 players

    Kaminski, Dubravka
    Virgil, Moreno, Gabriel, Doughty, Reguilon
    KDB, Saka, Foden, Hwang, Garnacho
    Haaland, Watkins, Darwin

    3.3 ITB for Salah/Son. 8 DGW players in GW25, 11 players in BGW26. Thoughts?

I have 7 starters for GW26 and have used my FT for GW24. My bench is all red flagged (Konsa, Anderson, Baldock). Will need to take at least a -8 to get 11 starting in 26. Would you consider using FH?

You'd want to do the same in 29. -8 is not so bad over few GWs. Many will take at least a -4 in 26 so you shouldnt be very far behind

  10. Prison Mike

Any of these worth a -4 this week?

Any other fixtures stand out as likelier than the rest to go ahead? Wolves v Bournemouth I could see happening, expect Leicester to give Bournemouth a good game and Brighton beating Wolves doesn't seem out of the question

Ben Cellin ranks the likelihood - he might have it in more detail but, based on his colour coding, only Forest Vs Luton is below a 62% chance of going ahead.

I guess that is based on odds and doesn't account for a bit of FA Cup magic

    2. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years

Yeah Bournemouth v Leicester should be a good game. I'd probably make Wolves slight favourites though. A non-blank there would give me quite a few extra players.

Blackburn's form has dipped a bit but with Newcastle being away I think they have a chance.

    What's your BGW26 looking like?

I am running the below currently:
    TAA / Porro / Gabriel / Gusto / Taylor

Three of those blank, and a question mark around Taylor anyway!

Happy to sell Trent or Gusto after GW26 (maybe even for GW25), but the defensive options are pretty naff that week.

Likely going to be Walker (bou), Moreno (NFO) and Branthwaite (bri). But I'd say TAA will be on his way out that week anyway so might have another option

Currently on the same first 4 as you plus Pau (who i am hoping plays in 26)

I think I am likely to do Porro to Van Hecke to fund Haaland so that gives me 3 playing in the blank.

If not, I think Trent & Gusto out in 26 (may roll in 25) is the likely move - just a shame I won't have any further info on BGW29 at that point but some Luton would be on the cards for the double in 28 and most likely unconfirmed game in 29

    Which of these sound better?
    1) Saka + Estupian to KDB + 4.6mn defender( which one though? Currently on Hecke to same more money)
    2) Richarlison + Solanke to KDB + Adebayo- somehow this sounds wrong as Rich is in best form and Solanke has DgW soon
There is no other way I can get KDB sadly

I think a Solanke hokey-cokey is not a bad thing - he has poor fixtures in 25 and 26. I think I marginally prefer 2, but simply because I am not sure I can justify losing Saka

      1. HNI
        • 12 Years

But then can you justify losing Rich? You think with Son back Richarlison will suffer?

I don't own Rich, so I suspect that could be clouding my view. Rich has one less game than Saka and Son's return might affect Rich (although doubt it in the form he is showing)

Yeah I was thinking Wolves defender as well but they don't have attacking potential. On Kilman right now....I was thinking anyway because of so many goals in wolves games I will play one less defender in bgw won't make much difference would it?

Dawson has some threat from set pieces, and Ait Nouri is a very advanced WB albeit without any actual returns this season. But yeah I don't think its that bad if you only end up with 2 defenders in 27

    Dubravka, Areola**
    Porro**, TAA, Walker, Gabreil, Branthwaite
    Foden, Saka, Palmer, Jota, Gordon
    Watkins**, Solanke, Haaland (c)

    1 FT, 0.6m ITB

I currently only have 3 players with a confirmed fixture for BGW29 (and no players from the other predicted fixture, or the Manchester United fixture if Forest knocks them out of the cup). Even with 6 FTs I can only get to a maximum of 9 players for that GW. So I should be concentrating on fielding as good as team possible for the next 5 GW's then using FH in GW29, right?

    1. Biggsy
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member
      • 11 Years

I presume your 6FT include ones in 25 and 26 where we still won't know the games going ahead in 29?

Unless there are multiple massive upsets, I can't see many worlds where FH29 isn't the most logical. Feels like just accepting that now and clearing 29 from your mind could be the way forward.

I have very similar team. Estu and Maguire instead of Walker and Branthwaite. My plan is something like this:

      24 Watkins to Darwin
      25 save
26 TAA and Darwin to Pau and Watkins
      27 Foden to Son
28 Jota and Estu to Doughty and Bowen -4
29 Saka and Solanke to Richarlison and Toney -4

Would mean getting good picks at the right time, field 9 in gw 29 (all solid picks) and save FH for later. A food for thought at least 🙂

This is looking pretty decent for the weekend, right captain and starting 11? Raul is an issue but he can wait until next week.

    Dubravka
    Doughty - Gabriel - Porro
    KDB - Palmer - Saka - Foden - Jota (c)
    Watkins - Haaland

    Areola - Botman - Estup - Raul

Gordon to Jota not a good option?

I'm struggling to decide on my 3rd striker spot. I don't think Haaland or Watkins are going anywhere.
    Which do you prefer?
    A) Keep Pedro until 28 then move to Solanke
    B) Pedro to Toney and ignore doubles
    C) Pedro to Darwin then Darwin to Solanke (involves hits)

Toney doesn't really ignore doubles when he has one himself....

I guess my question would be whether Pedro is your 8th attacker or likely needing to play? If likely benched, I suspect FT better spent elsewhere and so A. Otherwise, if he needs to play most weeks I would get rid (B looks good). Haven't Brighton got some European adventures coming up which might impact Pedro's PL minutes?

True, but that double isn't the greatest.
Pedro is my 8th attacker, so yeah I think A is sensible, as long as Gordon is fit!

I need a cheap (4.1m) enabler to get Jota and Darwin in.

    Who's best?

    c) Bell 3.9m (plenty of fixtures, doubles and avoids the blanks)

    b) Bradley 4.1m (More risky but potential for big points)

    c) other?

Bell does blank in 26 though and Luton have not suddenly become the 80s/90s Milan
Bradley seems like a punt, but might well start one of the doubles and score double figures.
van Hecke seems pretty nailed and BHA have some pretty tasty fixtures coming up, but BHA aren't exactly Jose's 2000s Chelsea either.

Both blank in 26. Just trying to navigate 29 without using the FH

Was all set to bring in Haaland for Watkins before the last two gameweeks happened. Gone cold on the idea now though. This would have inturn funded Ode>KdB, and then on to Salah. So it looks like Solanke is going to be the one to have to go, which means I am limited to a Jota or Foden maybe? Ode is my lowest scoring attacker on recent PPG so he's on the bench this week.

I think I'll just do Haaland(c) in and save my 2nd FT, and suss the landscape next week for DGW25 & 26. Two FT's could be gold if we get injuries/red cards this weekend.

    Areola
    Porro Gabriel Doughty
    Son Saka Richarlison Palmer
    SOLANKE>HAALAND(c) Watkins Alvarez

    Turner Odegaard Estupinan Branthwaite

I'd agree with Solanke - but Watkins third choice of your three attackers to lose.

Rolling seems sensible - you are currently fielding 5 players who blank in 26, of which 3 are in midfield so I think you want to roll 2FT into 26 for sure to be able to navigate the blank without losing key players for 24 & 25

Crazy when you think we are in GW24, so only 14/15 or so moves left!

Would you gamble on bringing in Darwin for a -4 or one of the below?

    A. Cunha
    B. Toney
    C. Watkins
    D. Someone Else
    E. Darwin GW 25

    Thanks

Balancing loading up on DGW whilst trying to make sure I have a team for BGW. Any thoughts on this?

    Dubravka
    Porro Gabriel Gusto
    KDB Foden Palmer Richarlison
    Nunez Watkins Haaland

    Areola Martinelli Estupinan Taylor*

    A) Martinelli > Jota (bench Palmer)
    B) Palmer & Estupinan > Neto & Virgil (-4)
    C) Any other suggestions?

    a) Watkins, Palmer and Porro ---> Darwin, Jota and 4.1m def (Bell or Bradley)

    b) Solanke, Gordon and Trippier ---> Darwin, Jota and 4.1m def (Bell or Bradley)

Was set on A but B, leaves me with more options for GW29 blanks.

One of the easier one's I've answered this morning - B easy

Only issue with A is leaving 2x Blankers for the SGW so arguably a Branthwaite or Van Hecke is a better choice as the defender but depends what the team looks like.

Looking to bring in Darwin for Solanke but who would I bench?

Alternatively, would Doughty be the better move?

    Leno
    Porro Gabriel Estupinan
    KDB Richarlison Foden Palmer Saka
    Haaland Watkins

    Turner Solanke Branthwaite Taylor
