Best midfielders that play in 26 and 29?

    Bailey and Bowen?

Can't even think of any others

Pens, set pieces, some open play threat and nailed 90 mins for Luiz

As a pained Bowen owner of many weeks I will disagree with him being anything near one of the best for those weeks

Bowen has good fixtures and is playing high up the pitch, he's a worthwhile pick for 26-29.

Luiz is a pick on par with JWP as he may be sitting further back with Villa's injury headache.

    Currently leaning Palmer and Garnacho.

How essential is KDB this week? Torn between getting KDB/Pool defender or Ake/Saka, but if I go for the former I only have one playing defender in GW26.

    Best move here?

    A) Porro -> DOUGHTY
    B) Porro/Gordon -> VIRGIL/BARKLEY (-4)
    C) Save FT

Doughty & Barkley doubling 25 & 28 and likely playing 29 is attractive. Can currently get 11 in 26 (Porro, Palmer, Darwin bench*)

    Areola
    Gabriel, Estupinan, Porro*
    KDB, FODEN, Saka, Gordon
    HAALAND, DARWIN*, Watkins

    Turner, Palmer*, Burn, Taylor
    Bank 0.1m, 1FT

I am probably doing B but with TAA and Palmer (also for a hit). Barkley is not popular on here but a pick like him adds to the spice of a DGW, and I really like his double in 28 (plus he possibly has 29 too).

What does a FH29 team look like?

    Flekken
    Udogie - Mee - Cash
    Son - Richarlison - Bailey - Bowen
    Watkins - Toney - Muniz

    Not very inspiring...

It's much better than say just 7 or 8 players turning out and letting some of those selections direct your transfers from now onwards.

It’s particularly the second part of that that’s important. I can see a lot of duds going into teams for several GWs to cope with this one week

          The FH clears the mind.

It's possible it's not required, with a couple of Premier League FA Cup losses, but it's much better for it to open up and save it that way.

It just means you can play gw25 through to 28 as you see fit.

With attackers and defenders taking points off each other, I'm not convinced it's THAT much better, especially if the plan is to wildcard the following week.

I haven't got any Spurs which helps with Liverpool now and gw26 blank.

Of the above I only have Villa players, Watkins, Moreno and Martinez so it works for me.

Also think I can use a WC33 which helps with gw34 to BB37.

I'm not obsessed with a 15×15 double gw37 BB, but by definition a big double is easy for most squads to play into. Injuries and suspensions permitting.

May yet be another game (or two) on for all we know. Might not look great but as AC/DC says above the idea of having to pick a lot of the above in coming weeks and keep until GW29 is arguably more of a problem. I currently have 4 for that week and Toney is the only one I'm happy with, I can build towards getting through with FTs but hanging onto Bowen or Moreno until then doesn't feel like a good way to manage the next 5 weeks

Minute points are underestimated as 2 or 3 points is the base expectation.

But they provide almost a quarter of your total score. Of course it's the goals, assists and bonus points that people crave.

All about the expected points difference between non-FH team and FH team and assessing if it meets your minimum requirements to use the chip.

Sure you are likely to get a red arrow compared to FH teams but the loss may be minor and could have a bigger gain using it in another GW

There are going to be at least 4 fixtures imo(?) Is this correct? Are these players from 6 teams only(?) I think I have only Watkins and Porro atm. I haven't been able to decide my strategy yet.

      1. x.jim.x
        • 11 Years

I believe the confirmed fixtures are:

        Burnley v Brentford
        Fulham v Spurs
        West Ham v Villa
Man United v Sheff Utd OR Luton v Forest

I'm in the same boat as you really, with Areola and Leno.

First 3 fixtures listed are confirmed.

There is an (unlikely) scenario that Forest beat Man U and Luton beat Man City then both
Man United v Sheff Utd and Luton v Forest will be blanks

The City scenario ain't happening, so might as well not bother factoring it in, so we'll get either MUN v SHU or LUT v NFO depending on if United beat Forest or not (I think)

They'll put out a weak team as to not jeopardise their league campaign. City will too, but their definition of a "weak team" is Alvarez instead of Haaland, etc.

    7. El Presidente
      • 6 Years

Already made my mind; if MUN and/or NEW fixtures land in there I'm using FH29, if nor I'll just use hits to field enough players. Essential players are Porro, Richarlison, Son, Watkins and Toney. If you field another 3 or 4 you're totally fine.

      1. x.jim.x
        • 11 Years

That's pretty much where I am - couple of hits and I can get a decent 6 or 7 out. With those extra fixtures, you'll want the likes of Hojlund, etc so that makes more sense to play the chip.

          • 6 Years

Agree with Alisson and VVD. I can see rotation for Robbo with the cup final in mind. Tsimikas and Gomez could get game time in the double at LB

yeah tzimikas could but i see it more in robbo off with half an hour to go rather than a full start for tzimikas , he's been out a long time and pool need 6 points from these games. robbo a mainstay when he's fit and can handle the extra mins

So not 180 mins for Robbo then...

Yeah agreed Robbo is first choice, just working backwards from the cup final and Tsimikas needs mins at some point. It is 3 games in 8 days.

I think Robbo will play both, completely changed the dynamic of the team when he played last week and when he plays, the confidence of the team raises also. I think they’ve really missed him…

I don't doubt that, but playing 180 minutes in 4 days, after being out for 5 months, 4 days before a cup final doesn't seem like the best course of action - especially when Gomez has been deputising well. They shouldn't need him to beat Luton at home.

I think there might be possible a scenario where the RB rotation is Bradley (bre) / Gomez (LUT /Bradley (CHE), and if Tsimikas isn't fit to actually start yet then maybe Robbo gets something like 70 + 60..?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Gomez can play anywhere across the back 4, so wouldn't surprise me to see completely different lineups across both games. Calling Robertson a "guaranteed 180" is extremely optimistic, I would say.

      A) KdB
      B) Jota -4 pts

Just check how many double fantasy pts KdB got vs Copenhagen.

Another way to look at the relative merits of crossing a big blank gw29 with a Free Hit is this.

20 points on a BB is deemed decent enough.

For simplicity if you can only get 7 players out in a blank week, and 2.5 points is an average min points expectation for a starting player.

Well the FH has brought you 10 points to start.

Half of what is deemed value in a BB that people plan around. That's without any attacking returns or bonuses won.

But a freehit in a double gets 22 players out 🙂

Or a BB gives you 15+15 in a big double gw!!

That's the beauty of this game, it's the ultimate What If with so many trade offs and counter points.

Guess that's what keeps people coming back to forums like this.

Yes, all be it a lot harder to plan for 15 doubles using FTs and not a FH

I don't see why you are comparing FH and BB.

You should be comparing non-FH v FH team to assess the merits of using the FH chip

I was comparing the relative merits of chip points.

That was exactly why I made that comparison because that was the point I was trying to make!

Again I still don't see the relevance comparing the two chips when both have different usage and points potential

I'm never sure what the metric is to judge whether a FH is successful or not. I was happy with my points and rank gain from FH in GW18. It also helped keep me playing at a time I was losing interest. It does mean that I'll have to try and negotiate GW29 a bit differently.

Most of us here don't count "mental points". (Made sense in your case though.) Highest OR possible or top 10k is still my goal, even though top 100k (top 50k) is more realistic. Having all chips left to use and the hope to get biggest possible net gain later is important to me. Regretting wasting a chip against my principles would destroy the fun out of the game for me. Each to their own, I guess.

Yeah, I'm less bothered about my OR in May than getting some enjoyment out of the game week in, week out.

Last year I wasted my FH, so I needed have a different plan to negotiate the BGW and DGWs. Partially no doubt due to some luck, I was able to make large OR rank gains in that period by not following the template WC and FH strategy that all the CCs championed.

Bench Boost is commonly thought of as a much "worse" chip though - you can't compare the two.

Partly because of the hits and disappointment in playing it if it doesn't pan out.

I know FH offers the max flexibility other than a wildcard, guess I was trying and failing to set out it's points potential.

Like Tony said, the true comparison is FH team vs non-FH team - does using the chip and filling your team with opposing players vastly outscore a team with just 6 or 7 of the big names?

Most people, regardless of chip strategy, will be looking to line up with at least Watkins, Son and Toney plus a few others - do all the extra 2/3 points justify using one of the most powerful chips we get?

            I think so.

You'd have to trade off each chip to see the net effect across the weeks.

Or just check gw38 overall ranks!

Free hitting for a blank is an interesting one. I nearly always do cover blanks with FH, but in theory the GW could be *so* small, with so few decent teams/players, that you can cover a couple of the main players with FTs and take it on the chin, with a view to free hitting to get more fixtures in a DGW than you lose in the BGW.

First thing is to know the gw29 fixtures and see where you stand.

Appreciate some help here! 1FT & 0.3ITB. Some options:

    A. Palmer+Solanke >> Garnacho+Darwin (-4) … unsure with Salah now around.

    B. Livra/Taylor >> Bradley … bench headache

    Dubravka

Gabriel Doughty Estup

Foden Saka Palmer Jota KDB

Watkins Haaland(c)
    (Areola, Solanke, Livra, Taylor*)

Taylor will play GW26 while Bradly may or may not play both DGW games and will be a hard sell after that. Could play with selling Livra as he's probably one pointer till the end of the season. Could play with selling Palmer tho.

That's contestable because if the Trent injury is recurring or slow healing then Bradley could be a great hold.

        Especially with a FH29 play 😉

This TAA news really is a b1tch and with Taylor or Gusto as my 2 back up defenders I am leaning towards a hit to replace him. I now there are doubts around game time but Robertson looks the standout for me.

MLS is back on 21 February.

Anyone playing MLS fantasy this year? I am giving it a try for the first time. Drawn in by what appears to be unlimited transfers throughout the season! Starts with a DGW as well.

    Go to fantasy.mlssoccer.com to register.

Have I created a mini league for Scout posters/readers and others? Of course I have as follows:

If everyone else in my mini league has Nunez, is it crazy for me to go without him? I have Jota and will get in Luiz, is that sufficient?

I know this madness but I am going without Halland and have Alvarez Foden and KDB(C) plus Jota Dawin and Allison. Is there even one person out there who could give me any sort of hope?

      Kevin could.

But your trade off is Alvarez v Haaland.

If KDB outscores Haaland tho you're laughing of course.

    Best option with this team?

    Areola
    Trent-Porro-Schär-Estupinan-Dalot
    Saka-Richarlison-Foden-Palmer-Jota
    Haaland-Watkins-Archer

    A) Trent, Porro & Palmer to Pau Torres, Bradley & KDB (-4) and then using 1 FT GW27 to get to 11.
B)Trent, Porro & Palmer to Pau Torres, Branthwaite & KDB (-4) and then rolling FT GW26
    C) Trent & Archer to Ake & Darwin and then taking af hit next week by adding Solanke & Garnacho for Darwin & Palmer

Would you consider Bench boosting the following squad this week?

    Dubravka
    Walker, VVD, Porro
    Saka, Gordon, Foden, Luis Diaz
    Watkins, Haaland (C), Darwin

Areola (nfo), Bowen (nfo), Gabriel (bur), Estupinan (shu)
