I wonder if Lamptey will make 1,000 minutes this season.

    23/24 - 908 mins
    22/23 - 439
    21/22 - 1,547
    20/21 - 887
    19/20 - 619

People say about James, but Lamptey is on a whole other level to James. James is just an outpatient, Lamptey is a professional NHS patient through and through.

    I’m liking this…

    Martinez
    Gvardiol / Munoz / VDV
    Salah / Palmer / Son / BrunoF / Hwang
    Isak / Muniz

    4.0 / Myko / Barco / 4.5

Newcastle and Arsenal with not so great first couple of games so I will probaby avoid their players at the star. Plan is to do Haaland > Watkins and Rogers - Foden in GW3. Opinions on this 1st draft:

    Sanchez Sels
    TAA Maatsen Mykolenko 4.0 4.0
    Salah Son Eze Nkunku Rogers
    Haaland Muniz 4.5

Have to disagree with your assessment of Newcastle's fixtures. Promoted side at home, mid-table side away, Spurs at home (beat them 4-0 just 3 months ago in the same fixture). I'd want a slice of that.

    Henderson
    TAA, Gvardiol, Gabriel
    Salah, Gordon, Eze, MGW
    Watkins, Isak, Havertz

    Petrovic, Burn, Winks, Greaves

How’s it looking? I’d like to squeeze Munoz in but Gabriel seems an objectively better pick?

Fair enough. Gvardiol is a decent shout. But you’ll be hiding behind the sofa. I’m not planning on having Haaland but feel I need at least Foden as a backup.

There is an outside chance Foden doesn’t start with having featured so heavily in the Euros. It’s one week out of 38 so hopefully can be compensated for. Maybe Ipswich will pull an upset!

What is you strategy for Haaland?

    A) own from the start intending to hold all season. Money cant buy a better captain!

    B) avoid, saving 5.0-6.0M is massive! No fear, can captain Palmer/Foden/Salah instead

    C) watching the fixtures, going to bring him in for key moment.

What are you planning to do and why?

    1. Hairy Potter

Really good and apt question. I've done drafts with him and Salah, a draft with neither which I've now completely discounted, one with just Haaland and no Salah, and the one I'm currently on has Salah but no Haaland!!!

So in answer to your question at the moment B

C is not an option as you'd need a plan to get him in for week 2, so it's either start him or go without until later in the season.

      1. Ginkapo FPL
        • 14 Years
        1 year, 4 months ago

I'm on C and not convinced gw2 is the flat track everyone thinks it is. New teams tend not to get rolled in the first three weeks.

That said I have not gone theough the fixtures to work out where the fixtures patches are.

Having built a few teams the balance without him is so much better. I'm sure I'll own him at some key points but probably just not to start with.
I also agree that Ipswich may not be the 'pushover' everyone seems to think

Own from the start, and reappraise once I've held the fort for the first 5 gameweeks. If I offload at that point with a mini wildcard I should get a proper decent squad.

That’s very true, it’s easier to get up to more costly players with multiple and vice versa, we can spread it around more easily if needed. That’s the big win rather than it just being an enticing back to the game rule.

    7. CarsonYeung
      • 13 Years

Initial thinking is B with Salah and Palmer occupying premium spots. Liverpool's opening fixtures are enticing enough that Salah (c) plus cash is currently winning the argument.

Will be constantly evaluating the situation, especially prior to City's GW7 fixture swing. 12.5m Salah can be downgraded to a multitude of 6.5m options which makes the move feasible.

Salah traditionally a very quick starter and tails away during the run in, I expect that will continue given the kind fixtures.

I think the pricing has successfully ruled out A for me. If Isak, Watkins, Havertz or others can keep last year's level then I won't be treating Haaland as a season keeper.

At the moment I do plan to start with him, mainly because the changing managers & systems at Liverpool and Chelsea cast enough doubt over Salah/Palmer for me that I'm not sure about relying on either of those 2 as an autocap in the early stages. If KDB leaves I'd feel more confident treating Foden as a City captaincy option to rival Haaland, but the potential for post-Euros fatigue/rest also makes me want to wait a few weeks before I treat Foden that way.

The Ipswich fixture is part of the appeal of course but for me the decision doesn't revolve around that one game. Would likely (C) GWs2-4, then maybe WC / mini WC GW5/6, at which stage I could definitely see myself switching a no-Haaland squad with a more stacked midfield like Foden, Saka & Palmer

At the moment I’m vacillating between having him until the Arsenal game and then reassessing or completely ignoring him as a possibility. Which way I swing will probably have a bit to do with ownership figures and a bit on how Saka, Foden, and Palmer are used in pre-season.

A... but only planning to hold him until WC, in all probability after gw3

Rationale being that his ceiling as captain at home to Ipswich should be enough to mitigate having to go without two of Saka / Foden / Palmer for three weeks to fit him in. Plus it gives me three weeks of data to try and work out who is playing where.

      Great question, chapeau.

I will likely do A, but going B is a personal bet on your own ability to pick a better weekly captain. I do trust my instincts to use that extra 6-7.0M on Palmer, Foden, Salah, so the question is do I have a guts to do it. The team looks soooo much better without Haaland.

This could be huge in fpl sense. Foden’s status definitely on the rise if the deal goes through. What a season he already had last time around, takes a brave man to go without 🙂

"A week is a long time in FPL"

When I read that this morning (about the possible move to Saudi) I took Haaland out and put Foden in, as I feel he will become more essential. I also feel Haaland might be slightly less productive without KDB.

Happier now with my current draft, but in a weeks time - who knows LOL

      1. InsertPunHere

Yeah this probably does swing me away from Haaland - the argument for him is basically always based on his ownership making him a must-have, but if De Bruyne leaving starts a Foden bandwagon I don’t see many casuals choosing a Man City attacking double up with CHE (A) staring them in the face every time they go onto the ‘pick team’ page.

At it seems to be a day with an open forum and some good discussion can I make 2 suggestions please:-

    1. When you post and tick the box "notify me of replies" this goes to your email address - is there anyway this could somehow be incorporated onto the site?

    2. I don't really / have never understood the "FPL Community" tab - I've missed so many interesting articles on here. Why can't they all just go in the "Articles" section as surely we're all one community?

Genuinely thought ‘notify me of replies’ sent a ping of some kind, never actually used it before, but second that suggestion.

The community tab used to be the articles written by FFS Community members, but these are very few and far between now since FFS killed the community - they now put weird un-community stuff (like the FPL Twitter circle-jerk league which includes pretty much zero FFS Community contributors). I agree it may as well just be turned into a place to find recent articles easier now.

Yes Mentaculus - something that's there until you've read it. We're often involved in several conversations, often on different pages and I hate being rude and not either thanking someone for their comment, or responding and continuing the conversation appropriately

Yeah good suggestion. I've never actually used the notifications here & always end up navigating through my profile anyway to find older conversations. I'll ask about this.

I think I'm still trying to get my head around how the 'Community' section works too. Some stuff like "Striker Keepers..." I assume grew as community tournaments here but tbh I don't know much about them. Can see maybe some rationale for your article going there, since it's about the concept of community, but perhaps that's trying to cram too many disparate things under one umbrella...? Will think about that

To receive an email notification whenever a new Community Article is published, you can do this by editing your FFS Profile. Simply tick ‘Community’ in the ‘Email Notifications’ section under ‘Alerts & Notifications’.

It works for me, and I usually post a comment whenever I receive an email notification about a new Community Article.

KDB off to Saudi seems to me to be a strike against owning Haaland.
Two seasons ago KDB assisting Haaland was a major reason why Haaland is 15m now.

    Sanchez | Turner
    Henry | Andersen | Burn | Konsa | Harwood-Bellis
    Hudson-Odoi | Gordon | Salah (C) | Eze | 4.5
    Watkins | Haaland | Isak

Last decision is tough. What do you think?

    Flekken | Turner
    TAA | Van de Ven | L. Martinez | Mykolenko | Dunk
    Salah | Foden | Gordon | Garnacho | Elanga
    Watkins | Isak | Toney

I'm fine without Haaland, rather cheer against him anyway. Thoughts chat?

No arsenal attacker my only issue here. Think I'd try and stretch to Havertz over Toney. I don't mind it at all though

Actually not a bad shout, on the other hand Toney is on pens and I don't think Havertz is. Toney will be the main man where Havertz will share the points more I think, thanks though.

It might, but in the end you have to make choices and I think Palmer won't repeat last season. Might consider Nkunku if he starts though.
