Mazraoui could be interesting depending on price. Larsen a wait and see for me, but at the price could be an enabler.

Final few tweaks and think I'm set on this. Any comments welcome!

    Miguel (Turner)
    Livramento Mykolenko R.Henry (Castagne, THB)
    Salah Gordon Eze CHO (Winks)
    Haaland Isak Watkins

NFO Gk could be new chelsea gk if 4.5m.

3 way def rotation playing 2 with Livramento, Mykolenko and Castagne gives:
    GW1 SOU BHA
    GW2 LEI bou
    GW3 BOU ips
    GW4 WHU wol
    GW5 lei ful
    GW6 CRY nfo
    GW7 NEW eve

2 way def rotation with R.Henry and THB gives:

I admire the effort to counter 'too much in attack, too little in defence'. A more balanced approach maybe required but not a bad effort.

Does anyone know if/where I can find last seasons data in the usual format.

By that I mean, I'd like to see a week by week breakdown of the points a player got last year as opposed to the summarised total that FPL now provides for last year?

    Thanks!

Ahh cheers. Been a while since I was a member.

Debating someone on reddit who doesn't understand the Pickford/Virginia vs 2x4.5s rotating. Wanted to see the total of Sa + Verbruggen IF you chose their best performance every week and see if it got near Pickford's total.

For the middle portion of last season I had rotating keepers based upon their fixtures, and ended up with fewer points than if I'd just stuck with one of them. Using hindsight to cherry pick which keeper you would have selected isn't a valid comparison to a set and forget keeper's points.

Goalkeeper in my team provided 172pts for the season, which is more than Pickford/Virginia, but that was due to making a couple of timely transfers to take advantage of DGW & BB, plus a FH keeper.

Rotating GKs is a no go zone for me. I personally and many others just can't nail it. I prefer a set and forget GK. Its always the guy on the bench delivering and it pisses me off.

But if you had good fortune with rotation, go for it.

I’m with you. Nothing more frustrating that starting the logical choice and your bench GK saves a pen or turns into prime Casillas and keeps a clean sheet when they shouldn’t

Just had a look at this. It's also a skewed comparison because clearly Pickford significantly outscored the other options at 5.0. Also Verbruggen and Steele shared minutes especially early on, so no-one would have picked him as part of a rotation pairing.

Regardless the numbers were 153 for Pickford, and I reckon you'd have got 139 for Sa-Verbruggen with their best score every gameweek.

So Pickford better, but the combo could have outscored the likes of Martinez or Vicario.

If you were going to build a team solely for BBGW1, what would it look like?

    Mine is:

    Flekken - Sels
    Saliba - Mykolenko - TAA - L.Martinez - Burn
    Salah - Odegaard - Garnacho - Gordon - CHO
    Havertz - Gakpo/Nunez - Isak

Ofc not 100% sure on gakpo/nunez or the man utd picks but want to target the best GW1 fixtures as I plan to FHGW2 and WC GW3. Too much of a headache with the uncertainty and fixture swings to plan for more than that tbh

    Given the recent rule changes meaning we can roll up to 5FTs, I'm really leaning against having either Haaland or Salah and this is the best team I can come up with and, honestly, I REALLY like it. So any feedback is welcome please;

    Pickford
    Robbo, Saliba, Gvardiol
    Palmer, Foden, Ode, Gordon
    Watkins, Isak(c), Wood

    Virginia, Andreas, Barco, H-B

Just rotate Wood/Andreas for the first 5 weeks at least basically. Everyone else can play every fixture more or less.

Thanks! I do have a team with Trent instead a rotating 4.5s. I also have a Haaland but no Salah, a no Haaland but Salah and a Haaland + Salah draft and the above is by far the most balanced I feel

    2. Sheffield Wednesday

This has a familiar look to one of my early drafts, except I'm favouring rotating 4.5m defenders instead of a Liverpool defender and put the saving into midfield.

      1. Zenith UK
        • 9 Years

Thing is. Robbo > 4.5 = no LIV in the team and the 1.5M saved = Andreas > 7M (Eze or a 6.5M) or Odegaard to Saka? Is that right? 8.5 > 10.0, right?

Alternatively Wood to 7.5 but doesn’t excite me to be honest.

Thoughts on Martinelli this coming season?

Anyone think he will bounce back from last season?

Did he play well vs Man U the other day?

I am thinking about picking him over Saka this time because he will probably want to set the record straight this time around. Especially if Riccardo Calafiori is bought and Jurrien Timber is back so they will have a proper left side.

My opinion is Strand Larsen will emphasize Cunha's and Hwang's scoring potential, more than score lots of goals himself. Long time has passed since the player playing upfront was arithmetically his team's top scorer. I'll try and buy Cunha in my draft auction tonight, therefore, or Hwang as a plan B.

I'd add Salah (great run of fixtures) and probably Haaland up to g/w 4
I've managed to squeeze all 3 of them into my squad
        Along with Isak & Gordon

Haaland, Isak and Son are the essential premiums for GW1&2 in my opinion.

I keep on reading things about Riccardo Calafiori, a lad I know quite well as a Roma fan born and living in Rome and AS Roma season ticket holder since 1989-90. Riccardo is roman as well, grew up as a football player at 1,5 km from my home, and seemed indeed a pure left back for all his youth. Failed to impress at AS Roma (about a dozen serie A match played in three years, plus some interesting appearance in Cups), and once sold to FC Basel, in Switzerland, he started playing (well) as a centreback, for the first time in his career. Then he went to Bologna for just 4 millions euros, and nobody here considered it a bargain. He then played the whole season as a centrerback, nailing on his place due to Jhon Lucumì's serious injury. Under Thiago Motta, he caught the eye so much that he gained his first ever National Team cap (July 4th, 2024). Four out of his 5 total caps were in the Euros, then: we've seen him flowering at the same time. Now, everyone is referring to Calafiori as 1) a phenomenon; 2) a natural replacement for Zinchenko as a left-back. He can certainly play there, where he started, but his history as a player is the blooming of a true talent started in the very moment he DID NOT play as a LB anymore. Maybe can help. Cheers everyone and forza Roma.

Grazie molto. Gabriel will have to rotate for Calafior to play his favoured LCB, or is RCB also a likely position?

It is, Riccardo is very decent with both feet. Not ambidexter as Maldini, but almost, so he could also make Saliba rest at times. Lastly: defensively, Gabriel is of the same level as Calafiori; Saliba is imho on another planet.

Hmm I was wondering if he might be a threat to Gabriel but everyone keeps insisting he'll be LB only. Maybe enough doubt there to wait & see though

Yep. They say Arteta had this dream of playing a back four line only made of CBs. White was it, indeed. But Calafiori on a flank is 30% the player he is in the middle, believe me.

Guardiola on players returning from international duty [incl. Foden, KDB, Walker, Rodri]: "We will be late. Not against United [they won't feature in the Community Shield].

"Against Chelsea, against Ipswich [they will be reintroduced] we will be late. It's to try not to drop many points, try to compete well.

"We don't have players because they have to rest... the refresh -three weeks, one month - is necessary.

"The competition is there [before that] - you have to adapt."

I think he'll probably be fine to start GW1 personally, but would like to see him get some mins in the last friendly v Girona (9 Aug) before I finalise the pick

I'm surprised he put KdB in this group of players because Belgium were knocked out on 1st July so 2 weeks before Foden/Rodi. Would have thought KdB had plenty of time for rest/holiday and be ready for GW1. I guess the Community shield will tell us more.

Looks like the author of the tweet added the list of names for context rather than Pep naming them individually, so yeah you might be right that KDB could be in a slightly distinct category to Foden/Walker/Rodri

That’s the mentality of a manchester utd fan until a Liverpool fan mentions what they’ve achieved in Europe.

Who is the best 4.5 midfielder? Would be third sub

The one with the lowest ownership, so they won't drop in price. And from a team where you won't want 3 players.

      They don't score points anyway.

Winks is probably the best from a poor selection
      Should get plenty of minutes
You need to go to 5.5 to get any attacking potential

      I wouldn't waste a valuable midfield spot on a 4.5m 3rd sub

First one for the season - talk to me:

    C. Miguel (4.0)
Saliba - TAA - Gvardiol (Livramento - Mykolenko)
Foden - Salah - Bowen - Nkunku (Rogers)
    Muniz - Isak - Havertz

...maybe sans Foden, given the above note

Foden to 2.5m mid and Havertz to Haaland.

Kinda of pointless owning Livramento if you aren't going to play him in Newcastle's easiest fixture GW1. May as well downgrade to £4.0m

Oscar Bobb 5.0m could be a nice 2-3 GW punt. Looked very sharp and involved in the attack during preseason

Huge talent, love Bobb. I will definitely consider this as I think he's quite likely to get starts at RW with the above list of absentees

There might be a few 'understudy' type players starting the season ahead of those who played in the Euros. Lot's of talk about the form and desire Jesus has shown in pre-season so far. He might start ahead of Havertz. Others like Bradley and Livramento as well maybe. Palmer and Cuccullera not coming back to Chelsea training until after their US tour. Etc.

Convinced that best way is to start with Haaland so shaked up the squad to have this

    Pickford-Virginia
    Burn-Andersen-Mykolenko-Konsa-Faes
    Salah-Nkunku-Eze-CHO-Rogers
    Haaland-Watkins-Isak

    Any thoughts appreciated...

I would maximize the 1st 11. Pickford to 4.5 and Konsa to Harwood and CHO to a 6.5.

Short term OK, but medium term I'll be looking to spread funds around most probably.
