Arsenal attacker a must have for the first 4 gws. Great attacking fixtures and yet I see so few teams with Saka etc

My plan is WC GW 6 and liking the look of this team. Defensive rotation is dreamy for the first 5. Capitalises on the fixtures of Arsenal, Liverpool, Forest, Fulham etc.

    Sanchez - Fabianski
    TAA - Mykolenko - Robinson - VdV - Barco
    Salah - Saka - CHO - Rogers - Winks
    Haaland - Isak - Muniz

Saka isn't back in training yet. I suspect he'll be in a lot more drafts if it looks like he's going to start GW1.

Copy and paste of my reply to someone else re: Havertz:

"I'll be honest, I don't get the Havertz hype...
He has had back to back 30 starts per season. Let's say he replicates his form from last year again this year... (important stats for what I'm going to discuss; G13, CS22)

Moving from Midfield to Forward is going to cost him 13 points from goals and 22 points from clean sheets this year, that's a 35 point reduction. That drops him to 145 points (assuming he maintains the same # of bonus points). That means for 0.5M more than Nicholas Jackson you would've got 3 extra points or he'd have less points that JWP (6.5) got for West Ham last year (146).

I just don't get it, please feel free to let me know what I'm missing? I just think for 0.5M more you can have Odegaard who has scored 186 and 212 in his past two seasons and is the captain."

I think having mids priced 5.5, 5 and 4.5 m unbalances this team- very difficult to jump on any 6.5 or above mid bandwagon so too inflexible for me- sorry!

I'll be honest, I don't get the Havertz hype...

I think what you're not taking into account is that you are using all season stats instead of when Arteta started using him as a striker. From the Newcastle game in February (where he began playing up front), he bagged 8 goals and 6 assists in 13 games. Compared to 5 goals and a single assist for the rest of the season. It's also worth noting that those 13 games also include 2 games where he played in midfield (with no goal contributions), so should provide a fair (albeit small) sample of what we can expect from him this season.

        1. Zenith UK
          • 9 Years
          1 year, 4 months ago

I can only use the information that is available and there's a reason he was playing deeper right? Not to mention Arteta has made positive comments about Jesus again this pre-season and Arsenal will have aspirations of going deeper in UCL this season which will cause more rotation again.

Not to mention that was when Arsenal were hitting their purple patch trying to secure the title and the whole club was in a rich vein of form.

          1. Flaming Flamingo
            • 9 Years
            1 year, 4 months ago

I mean, he wasn't first choice striker for the start of last season and now he is. Jesus could start the season given others have been away for pre-season, but if anything, the addition of Merino and lack of a CF signing point to Havertz being first choice there still.

Bearing that in mind, it's important to make the distinction between roles I think. Also, I did acknowledge that he may play the odd game in midfield, which is why I made a point to include his stats from midfield during that period too.

      3. Joey Jo-Jo Junior Shabadoo
        • 5 Years

Here's Havertz's record from last year.

        Playing as AM:
        24 games, 5 goals, 0 assists

        Playing as CF:
        13 games, 8 goals, 7 assists

Your assumption that Havertz played CF every game last season, and basing your calculation for this year on that - that's what you're missing.

Not an assumption, I know he didn't play every game at CF, but you're making the assumption he will play every game at CF this season, the point you and FF have both made can be the exact counter-point to be made.

Competition from Jesus & Trossard will be there again this year, especially with Martinelli back at full fitness

    I seem to be either Salah+Haaland or neither Salah+Haaland... Got two drafts here;

    Pickford
    Saliba, Henry*, Robinson*
    Salah, Ode, Nkuku, Rogers
    Haaland, Isak, Wood

    Virginia, Andreas, Davis*, H-B
*The three 4.5 DEFs can easily be another three 4.5s DEFs

    vs

    Pickford
    Saliba, Robbo^, Gvardiol^
    Palmer, Foden, Ode, Gordon
    Watkins, Isak, Wood

    Virginia, Andreas, Barco^, H-B^
^If it seems "too big at the back" would be open to dropping Robbo and/or Gvardiol but don't know who/where I'd actually upgrade, Ode to Saka, Andreas to a 7.0? Alternatively can do Gvardiol to another 4.5 and Robbo up to Trent (so Trent/Saliba + 2x 4.5s + 1x 4.0)

          Risky. But...

We have decent 4.5ers and someone like e.g. Barco could cover eventually. With the new BPS, I think it's worth it going light in defence. Especially with that team of yours!

Surprised no reference to Liverpool interest and what impact this may have on Gordon should that rumble on until end of transfer window- clearly his head must be turned with thought of playing for his boyhood team

Until the deal is done, it’s only speculation, Newcastle are as big a club as Pool right now, with equal chance of finishing top 4 and also Newcastle can afford to offer him whatever Liverpool come up with. It’s only a sideways move at best for a player that is shinning under Howe, and importantly playing every week.

I'm wavering on him due to a combination of returning late and the Liverpool rumours.

Surely it's the one spot Liverpool do not need strengthening?

I think you have gone too heavy at the back- new BPS rule doesnt favor defense. Lose one of your three big hitters at the back and upgrade Bailey.

I like it, Bailey is fine imo. Could maybe downgrade Martinez for an extra .5 and get Palmer/Saka instead of Son?

I really like the big at the back. I think the bps impact is overhyped, particularly for those three you have. All of them take a decent number of shots, and I’d say they can all expect similar / more clean sheets to last year. I would play 3 at the back and downgrade the 4/5th defenders and keeper to give another attacker

Not too keen on Porro or wood - youldd be leaving a decent chunk on the bench too

1st draft posted on here this year, keen to hear your thoughts!

    Miguel
    Gvardiol, Munoz, Livramento
    Salah, Gordon, Eze, Rodgers
    Haaland, Isak, Muniz

    Fab. Nkuku, Barco, HB

Obviously Livra is dependent on trippier leaving, but lots of 4.5 options that could rotate with Barco. Would probably reassess if Rodgers doesn’t look like a starter - would be on the bench most weeks anyway.

Who are the likely starting defenders for NFO?

They're all 4.5 so just have a placeholder until we know for sure. Most likely are Murillo, Aina, Williams and Boly, I reckon. Toffolo could be in. I'm all over newboy Milenkovic if he starts. Being Forest they'll prob but 4 more next week.

      There are really none.

Stewart from Southampton if he gets healthy.

How is this lot looking, feeling more and more that Foden will be eventually the City coverage needed....

    Pickford (4.0)

    Gvardiol Schar Andersen Murillo H-Bellis

    Salah Son Fernandes MGW Eze

    Isak Watkins (Stewart)

What do we think about this?

    Flekken Valdimarsson
    TAA Saliba Gvardiol Davis Barco
    Saka Foden Gordon Eze Johnson
    Watkins Isak Wood

What do you think to the below draft? Who would you replace Foden with for GW1?

    Miguel
    Gvardiol / Munoz / Livramento
    Szoboszlai / Gordon / Son / Eze / Foden
    Isak / Haaland

    Bergstrom | Faes | Barco | Cannon

    Thanks

Is Sels likely first choice for Forest? I'm playing GW1 BB and would be typical to get the wrong bloody keeper

Don't know yet. I'm anticipating it's Miguel. As they're the same price it doesn't matter so long as we know before the deadline 2 weeks away.

Sels is awful. Only 1 CS in 16 starts and save percentage was 58% = awful.

Forest specifically went for 6'8" Miguel because they conceded so many (16?) goals from set pieces - Sels and Turner the culprits. I would very much expect Miguel to have the gloves. He's pencilled into my draft along with Henderson anyway.
