Can someone explain to me why, Haaland + 5.0 player is better than say 2 x 10m mids?

    1. Fat Frank
      • 8 Years
      1 year, 3 months ago

I just don’t get it, there are 4 mids at and around the 10m price that regularly score 200+, similar to Haaland (or better).

I get the captaincy thing, but it’s like it ignores the fact you still have the option of captaining a regular hauling player in one of the 10m mids

Theoretically you are correct. In practice you will pick the wrong mids at the start

Isn’t it the flexibility of moving between them where the value and potential comes into play?

You are allowed to sell Haaland so thats not the discussion. Its about which position is more reliable for weeks 1-4, rather than 5-38

              • 8 Years

I’d rather than make one move in midfield though as opposed to 2 moves in selling Haaland and buying a mid

            2. Fat Frank
              • 8 Years
              1 year, 3 months ago

So for example I have 3 mids priced 10+.

I reckon there are at least 4 capable of 200+

              Salah
              Palmer
              Saka
              Son
              Foden

And I can easily switch to any 3 of them at a given point in time.

Whereas with Haaland, you will only have 1x 10+ unless your rest of team is budget.
So you only have 1/4 of the high scoring mids, as opposed to 3/4.

              Am I making sense?

      The answer: (C)

I'd have been more worried without him if we didn't have someone like Foden at 9.5. Based on last season, I'm comfortable capping Foden in some nice fixtures. Pep might change tactics this season, of course

      1. Fat Frank
        • 8 Years

Foden expected to start now after Bobb injury.

I get the captain thing, reckon Saka will be a steady captain choice this season, not to mention Salah ofc

Neale still expects Foden and KDB to be benched, with Savio starting in Bobb's place: https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/team-news/

I'm not experienced/accurate enough at predicting Pep to answer that myself. But that's just GW1. I expect minutes off the bench, then a return to normal for Foden from GW2. Since he wasn't injured and it's more of a physical + mental break, so he'd be raring to go

With that in mind, I see Foden as a long-term (C) option from GW2. My choice is between booking a GW2 transfer from Jota and just starting with Foden to take the GW1 risk on the chin

So my captains will be Salah, Foden, Isak, Solanke and maybe Havertz, as long as Partey is available to keep Rice at LCM and Havertz at CF

Although is fodens appeal now slightly dented with bobb injured.
A RW foden is not as good as a central foden

Bobb wasn't a regular starter last season
Alvarez wasn't a regular right winger last season

I think those two absentees are pretty unrelated to Foden's position. More likely to have Bilva starting at RW, at least until Savio becomes a regular

Trying to make up some explanations but the way of thinking may be:

Palmer, Saka - Lack of preseason minutes
Son - Two good fixtures to start with but he is a streaky player at times

      Haaland had a full preseason.

We’re not picking for the whole season.

For me, it basically comes down to Haaland having had a full pre season and a Summer off whereas Foden is only just back training and no confidence he starts before GW3.

    8. _Make

He's worth it. If you think you're going to captain him. If you think that there is a correlation between price and points, even if that correlation gets weaker the higher the price gets, you get the opportunity of putting out 2x the best player in the game. His price becomes an asset - you are getting £30m worth of captain when others are putting out £20-25m.

If his starting fixtures were much worse it would be a different story though.

Solanke or Wood for GW 1-3?

    1. Ze_Austin
      • 7 Years
      1 year, 3 months ago

Depends on what you need the funds for

I think Solanke will get considerably more chances as Ange's striker, and he isn't known for missing many

Wood has been golden under Nuno, so he's not a bad option by any stretch. I'll have him in mind if I need to drop any of my strikers at some point in the season, as long as Awoniyi doesn't displace him

The only worry I have about Wood is how nailed he is.

    Henderson, (fabianski)
TAA, burn, Konsa (Robinson, hardwood bellis)
    Son, saka, Jota ESR (winks)
    Haaland, isak, wood.

Mo Salah first 10 games last 8 seasons.

    2023-24.( 8 goals 4 assists)
    2022-23 ( 2 goals 3 assists)
    2021-22 (10 goals 6 assists)
    2020-21 ( 8 goals 1 assist)
    2019-20 ( 5 goals 3 assists)
    2018-19 ( 5 goals 3 assists)
    2017-18 ( 5 goals 2 assists)
    2016-17 ( 5 goals 5 assists)

With a full pre-season under his belt with no international tournament in the summer i see no reason why he cant replicate another strong start especially given the kind fixtures to start with

( ips BRE NFO BOU wol ) + Manchester united where he always feasts against im first 6 gws.

I think it is essential to go after the liverpool fixtures but i am growing a little wary of the manager change. as we have seen with Wenger, Moyes (everton) and Sir Alex, teams take time to adapt.

I feel that 7M for TAA with an unproven manager with this team is a lot of money, especially if it prevents us from having a City or Arsenal defender.

I wondered whether punting on Quansah at 4.5 was the less consequential smaller bet to make here. when one looks at the rest of team once saving 2.5m on TAA, it looks very good:

    Henderson Flekken
    Gvardiol Saliba Quansah Harwood-Bellis Barco
    Saka Jota Gordon Eze ESR
    Haaland Isak Joao-Pedro

I like the Quansah Harwood-Bellis Barco for one spot and I like the JP/ESR rotation too.

Any thoughts on the quansah minutes in the first 5?

Quansah also gives me time to evaluate the 4.5m def in weaker teams (Hall, Myko, Robinson, Konsa, Andersen etc) and switch later.

After so much tinkering, finally I am settled on this. Do you see any weakness apart from no Eze? I could obviously upgrade Nkunku to Eze and downgrade one of my 4.5 defender to Hardwood- Bellis.

    Henderson Bentley

    Saka Bruno Jota Nkunku Winks
    Haaland Isak Solanke

I don't think Bernardo and Maddison are 90min players....plus they are a huge rotation risk as well....with Solanke coming, Kulu can share mins with Maddison plus I don't think he is worth 1m more than Nkunku.

1, g2g, i landed on the conclusion i hated all the 4.5 gks so dont mind spending a bit more until your 1st WC where you'll be able to pick the best 4.5m gk then

Still lots of tinkering at the moment but I haven't change my draft for a few days...

    Henderson - best 4.5 choice
    Virginia - whatever

TAA - Great fixtures, proven asset
Hall - Differential, good initial fixture, solid team
Myko, Robinson - Great rotation pairing
Barco - 4.0 with attacking threat

Salah - Always start the season well, great fixtures
Jota - OOP, short term value punt
Eze - 90-minute talisman in an attacking team (if staying)
    ESR - Great initial fixture
Rogers - Could benefit from selling value if he does well in the first few

    Haaland - He is him
    Isak - Locked from day1
Wood - Sea of green fixtures, plays for an improving Forest side

Would you bench Rogers or J.Pedro? Both likely to start, Pedro on pens, but Rogers playing for a better team....
