The 2024/25 UEFA Champions League (UCL) campaign returns today – and so does the competition’s official Fantasy game.

As part of our partnership with StatsBomb, we take a look at which players were racking up the most shots, key passes and expected goals (xG) in Matchday 1.

We also review the attacking and defensive numbers at team level.

Don’t forget that you can get Statsbomb statistics by subscribing to our site! Signing up today locks in the price of your Premium Membership for years to come – so long as you don’t cancel.

PLAYERS: SHOTS

Ousmane Dembele (€8.5m) racked up eight shots in Paris Saint-Germain’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Girona but was often erratic and wasteful in front of goal.

He’s been left out of Luis Enrique’s squad to face Arsenal on Tuesday.

PSG team-mates Achraf Hakimi (€5.5m) and Randal Kolo Muani (€7.5m) also feature, with six and five shots respectively.

Hakimi took on a particularly advanced role in Matchday 1:

You could have said the same about Spurs, with the way they have been defending for the most part since last season.

It's MUs finishing and ETHs attacking setup that's the issue, not the defending teams.

Why is Salah being transferred out?

Nailed, plays 90 and returns in all but one match. Not good enough for fickle peeps? Confusing..

You probably haven’t watched him play, been absolutely awful, lucky to get that pen otherwise it would have been three shockers in a row, not consistent enough to captain as I’ve found out so is massively overpriced.

My eventual 3 big hitter will be Salah/Palmer/Haaland.. Will hold on to Saka for 2 more..

Because you can't fit everyone in. You have to pick at most 3 big hitters for most team structures.

          Saka, Haaland, Watkins for now.

But my team is purposefully imbalanced atm. My plan is to roll FT this week and then mini WC in GW8 during the break.

    Current team - 3 FT & 0.0 ITB
    Sanchez
    Robbo Robinson Mazaroui Lewis (Greaves)
    Eze Salah Saka Adana (Franca)
    Haaland Havertz (Joao Pedro)

    A. Eze + Salah + Joao Pedro - Luis Diaz + Palmer + Vardy (+ 0.5 ITB)
    B. Saka + Joao Pedro - Martinelli + Solanke (+ 1.0 ITB)
    C. Anything else?

RMT reckons 20 extra points with these moves on wildcard over the next six. Really don't want to sell Salah, but bringing in Palmer allows me to get Gvardiol back (sold this week doh) and Solanke whereas with Salah it's one or the other. Not sure on Keeper, stick or move to Flekken?

    Areola/Fab
    Gabriel Martinez Robinson Barco HB
    Salah Saka Rashford Mitoma Rogers
    Haaaland DCL Muniz

    Salah>Palmer
    Martinez>Gvardiol
    Barco>Greaves
    Rashford>Mbuemo

Thinking of using a couple of transfers. Am I having enough fun?

Smith Rowe + Pedro > Mbeumo + Solanke

    Fabianski
    Lewis Mazraoui Digne
    Salah(v) Diogo Diaz ESR Rogers
    Haaland(c) Wood

    Pope | Pedro**, Keane, Robinson

    4FT. 4.2 ITB

That would give me the decision of benching one of:

    A) Rogers (MUN)
    B) Wood (che)

Can do Salah > Palmer, but don't see the point. Can sell a different Liverpool attacker, but then only have 1.1-1.3 for upgrades, so no Solanke or Mbeumo, who both seem good buys, and more of an upgrade than just Palmer (who could be a downgrade, even).

Rogers over DCL a right call if fit? (c) will be between Haaland, Mbeumo, Havertz and Saka - really tempted by one of the Arsenal guys.

    Flekken
    TAA/Gabriel/Lewis
    Saka/Diaz/Mbeumo/Semenyo/Rogers
    Haaland/Havertz/

    Fab/DCL/Myko/Greaves

funny how the palmer narrative has changed after one game. i get it , 4 goal haul but its like everything that was said before-chelsea fixtures bad, he's playing too deep etc- have been completely redacted on here. it just shows you how flimsy it all is. 45 mins of football and conclusions based on 5 previous gameweeks all go out the window.

i did smart A***. and i never said I agreed with the narrative and posted that before Brighton game. Im just pointing out how stupidly fickle it all is. if people are forming group think opinions -rightly or wrongly -based on the previous gameweeks then whats the point in forming them at all when it all crumbles after one freakish half of football

Referring to the views of some as a "narrative" probably doesn't help you.

He's 22. Main man in that Chelsea team. No Euro games until knockout rounds, if they get there. Salah is 32 and Pool have 8 Champions League group games. Costs 2.1m more. Also the main man in his team but Pool have more attacking threats to impact his points. Ideally get both of them.

Best option here, and if A), best 6.4m option?

    A) Salah & Watkins -> 6.4m & Haaland(c)
    B) Trent, Salah & Watkins -> Gvardiol, Mbeumo & Haaland(c) (-4)
    C) Trent, Salah & Watkins -> Greaves, Mbeumo & Haaland(c) (-4) - leaves enough cash for Vardy -> Solanke
    D) Wildcard - load up on MCY, sort bench etc.

    Trent, Gabriel, Porro
    Salah, Palmer, Saka, Jota, Rogers
    Watkins, Vardy

Cheers. Thing is if doing A, B or C, im not sure I’d make many other changes to my 11 if I was WCing. Hendo, Vardy and subs likely get changed, but not sure if that warrants a WC?

          • Fantasy Football Scout Member

          The WC depends on Haaland.

If you don't want Haaland I wouldn't WC. You have the 3 best big hitters.

The counter argument I'd make is...

Are you really gonna make huge changes at a later time that would make a WC more useful then? If you WC now, you'll retain 2 FTs and can probably roll the following week to have 3 and then you'll easily be able to pivot to the best possible team.

          2. Jinswick
            • Fantasy Football Scout Member
            • 15 Years

Totally - it depends on Haaland - ik isolation I much prefer him to Salah for the coming weeks, but I can do that trade without WCing. I’m not sure he warrants the downgrade elsewhere (eg Haaland/6.4 vs Salah/Watkins + transfers/WC saved….

Good fixtures for Saka and Vardy this week too - Vardy wouldn’t make the WC and Saka is sellable after this week imo

Yes, then hopefully the point-profit will make the eventual move to Mbeumo all the sweeter.

1FT. Torn between rolling, using the FT, or a -8. Best option from below?

    A) Roll
    B) Salah -> Saka
    C) Salah + Eze + Minteh to Saka + Palmer + 4.4 bench fodder (-8)

    Flekken (Verbruggen)
Trent - Gabriel - Lewis (Konsa, Bednarek)
Eze - Salah - Mbeumo - Rogers (Minteh)
    Wood - DCL - Haaland (c)
