    Definitely want Haaland in for captaincy.

    The Sensible one - Watkins + Salah ---> Haaland + McNeil

    The Foden gamble - Watkins + Saka + Salah ---> Haaland + Johnson + Foden -4

    The Salah keeper - Watkins + Saka + TAA ---> Haaland + Johnson + 4m def -4

    The Saka keeper - Watkins + Salah + TAA ---> Haaland + Johnson + 6.6m def (Gab?) -4

          We will most likely have BGWs and 29 and 34. Then we will likely have DGWs in GW33 and GW36. Probably I'll be using those two for my BB and TC.

    Ginkapo FPL

    There is a big assumption behind this article and similar logic:

    The big players score better in the easier on paper games.

    At the end of last season there was a really important article which showed that last season this was only true for Palmer and Haaland. The rest were less predictable.

    So listen to this advice at your peril.

      I am getting 3 premiums and gonna sit on them (barring injury) for the foreseeable. No hoping on and off as the returns have been random and hard to predict.

      1. Tommy Template
        • 11 Years
        1 year, 1 month ago

        Surely if you're going 3 its Palmer, Saka and either Haaland or Salah. I'd just choose 3 and stick. Accept you'll never own the odd one out. There's no way anyone can afford Salah and Haaland and another without trashing the team so that is off the table.

      2. Esraj
        • 10 Years
        1 year, 1 month ago

        Same here. I think one reason you pay a premium price is that it saves you several transfers over the course of a season that you otherwise would have made if it was an average player. Premiums give you consistency, which is a rare commodity in fpl.

    3. Tommy Template
      • 11 Years

      Haaland won't be easy to plan around anyway. If you let him go its a big drop down in money to whichever striker you replace him with and it'll be very tricky getting him back without a few moves. The other premiums are mids so its easier to move around then in one transfer and not have too much money to mess about with. It is quite funny this narrative building that these premiums are going to behave and only haul in the nice looking fixtures. There's going to be some massive hard luck stories developing.

      1. Frank Bruno Guimaraes
        • 1 Year

        Absolutely correct. The more premium the player the less fixture sensitive they are as a general rule. The reverse is opposite. People piling into DCL because of easy fixtures are still chancing it which is why he’s cheap.

      If Haaland and Palmer score better in the easier games, is the other side then that they score worse in the more difficult fixtures? Would it then make sense to own them for easier runs of fixtures and consider getting rid for tough runs?

      1. Casual Player
        • 5 Years
        1 year, 1 month ago

        They still score well in the tough runs

        You can play fixtures with success, but it doesn’t always work. So much analysis lately seems really geared to it above all else and ignoring stuff like form, how teams matchup, etc.

          In the article Lateriser says "The first thing that jumps out to me is Haaland’s poor points per start numbers against the Kolarov and Lescott teams"

            Which is still like 5.4 and 5.5, from memory.

            And this season he’s doing better

            If you want to make 2 transfers to switch to one of the MID premiums for fixture runs based on that, go for it . But it’s a considerable risk IMO.

              Ok but Salah averages around 8 points against Kolorov and Lescott teams whereas Haaland averages around 5.5 for example. These are players that you would captain too which magnifies things.

      Yeah 100%. so much content on FPL is a blunt instrument when you need nuance on stuff like this. Overemphasis on fixtures is big

        Yeah there are so many different ways and strategies to play this game. Whatever you feel could give you an edge is worth looking into. My philosophy is that fixtures bring form within reason but I'm likely to be wrong a lot of the time if I stuck rigidly to this philosophy. There are so so many examples which would prove and disprove this theory.

    10. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years
      1 year, 1 month ago

      Hmm that's not quite true though, is it? The article shows, for the tough fixtures, Watkins 3.7 PPG, Havertz 3, Isak 4.1, Foden 4.5 etc. The only two it doesn't seem to apply to are Salah & Son, and I think it's quite widely accepted that Son does well against the top sides.

      Haaland's 5.7 / 5.4 / 9.4 looks pretty significant to me. 15m is a hell of a lot for under 6 PPG and/or if not captaining him in these types of fixtures.

      1. Ginkapo FPL
        • 14 Years
        1 year, 1 month ago

        Haaland and Palmer stand out as flat track bullies. I can see a case for Isak too on second look.

        The others are less predictable imo. I can see your argument that Kai, Foden and Watkins are benchablenin tough games, but otherwise they are still hard to predict.

            1. The Mentaculus
              • 4 Years

              "Benching in tough games" isn't really what I'm referring to - most if not all of the players on lateriser's list are permastarters when in my team. I'm mainly referring to transfers between them for the purpose of optimising captaincy points.

              I can't honestly claim it's been working for me with Haaland, and clearly there are other significant factors (not least the form/fitness of teammates), but the data from the article does suggest that it's not necessarily a flawed approach so I'm sticking with it for now.

              I guess the other underlying factor is more a question of personal play style - yes of course there's unpredictability & variance everywhere, but if I'm not actively trying to make my haul-chasing predictions/transfers I'd get bored of this rather quickly.
