Club football returned at the weekend and continental action has now resumed, with 18 UEFA Champions League (UCL) matches taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

To mark the occasion, FanTeam is running nightly Main Event contests and it’s the Wednesday one that we’ve decided to make competitive: an AI-selected FanTeam line-up versus a Scout XI.

Join the FanTeam fun: Wednesday Main Event

FanTeam: Prizes to be won in UCL Wednesday Main Event

From seven matches, you have a 120.0m budget to spend on 11 players.

  • RB Leipzig v Liverpool
  • Atletico Madrid v Lille
  • Young Boys v Inter
  • RB Salzburg v Dinamo Zagreb
  • Benfica v Feyenoord
  • Manchester City v Sparta Prague
  • Barcelona v Bayern Munich

These will gain points from goals, assists, clean sheets, saves and shots on target but could also lose some for cards, penalty misses and own goals. There’s also a punishment for stacking multiple defensive clean sheets from the same club.

In the version that costs £2 to enter, the best 17% of managers will receive a share of a £4,000 prize pool. The only barrier is limiting yourself to a maximum of three players per team.

New Customer Offer

An even better reason to dive into the action is that new FanTeam customers will automatically receive £10 of contest tickets.

FanTeam: Big Pick 6 offers prizes for Gameweek 7

All you need to do is make a £10 minimum deposit and enter any cash competition. It’s a fantastic opportunity to explore what FanTeam has to offer and maybe even pocket some prizes.

FanTeam’s AI line-up

This strikes a balance between star power and budget-friendly picks, maximising potential points across all positions. The combination of proven goal-scorers, creative midfielders and solid defenders provides a well-rounded approach to the FanTeam Main Event contest, setting up a strong chance for success.

FanTeam: Prizes to be won in UCL Wednesday Main Event 1

GK: Ederson (12.8m, Man City)

As Man City’s first-choice goalkeeper, Ederson is a strong pick due to his clean sheet likelihood. Their solid defence, combined with home advantage, makes him a reliable choice to secure points from saves and shut-outs.

DEF: Ruben Dias (12.2m, Man City)

A key figure in Man City’s defence, known for his aerial ability and leadership. He provides a strong chance of a clean sheet and can contribute further points via tackles and interceptions.

DEF: Alessandro Bastoni (10.5m, Inter)

A consistent performer for Inter, Bastoni’s defensive prowess and ability to join the attack makes him a valuable pick. He has a chance of points at both ends, usually contributing to offensive set pieces.

DEF: Stefan Ristovski (5.4m, Dinamo Zagreb)

Meanwhile, this budget-friendly wing-back can provide defensive stability and a chance of attacking points. Such an affordable option allows balance in the line-up.

MID: Phil Foden (15.5m, Man City)

Man City’s attacking midfielder had his minutes managed at the weekend. His ability to create chances and score goals makes him a valuable asset in this match-up.

MID: Antoine Griezmann (12.6m, Atletico Madrid)

A crucial part of Atletico’s attacking strategy, Griezmann knows how to haul and is well-positioned to earn significant points against Lille.

MID: Leroy Sane (9.5m, Bayern Munich)

In good form, Sane is an explosive player capable of scoring and assisting. His pace and creativity will be vital against Barcelona, making him a strong midfield choice.

MID: Mohamed Salah (11.9m, Liverpool)

Established as one of Fantasy’s best all-time assets, Salah consistently brings goals. His capability to deliver big points makes him an essential pick in this 3-5-2. He also gets the captain’s armband.

MID: Dominik Szoboszlai (10.4m, Liverpool)

His Liverpool team-mate Szoboszlai has been a standout performer so far, contributing both goals and assists. A match against former club RB Leipzig awaits.

FOR: Robert Lewandowski (10.2m, Barcelona)

It’s similar for Lewandowski, who is reuniting with Bayern. Always a goal threat, his experience and skill make him a prime candidate to score against any opposition. Moreover, he loves to deliver in big matches.

FOR: Benjamin Sesko (8.4m, RB Leipzig)

The young RB Leipzig talent offers great value this week. He has already showcased his ability to capitalise on defensive lapses.

Scout’s line-up

FanTeam: Prizes to be won in UCL Wednesday Main Event 2

There are four attacking changes in Scout’s team. Despite blanking in three successive Premier League matches – failing to even have a goal attempt at leaky Wolverhampton Wanderers – it’s hard to lose complete faith in Erling Haaland (15.9m). Especially when Sparta Prague are coming to visit.

Then again, the Czech side joined Brest in thrashing RB Salzburg in these early Matchdays, which is why choosing opposing forward Bruno Petkovic (6.9m) seems wise. He’s budget-friendly and has racked up three goals and three assists in this season’s first eight domestic outings.

An early September arrival at Benfica, Kerem Akturkoglu (13.1m) will be at home to Feyenoord. The midfielder has scored on both UCL occasions, including the 4-0 win over Atletico.

That’s why the underpriced Edon Zhegrova (5.6m) is a good option. He’s just assisted the winning goal in Lille’s shock win over fellow Madrid side Real and won’t fear a trip to the Metropolitano Stadium.

By preferring him to a cheap defender, it allows the more attacking Denzel Dumfries (11.0m) and Josko Gvardiol (12.5m) to compete against team-mates Bastoni and Dias. Joining them is super-fast Alphonso Davies (7.1m), with Liverpool understudy Caoimhin Kelleher (8.8m) between the sticks.

Can't do Saka -> Palmer in one move.

Havertz -> Solanke (-4) to make it happen or just bring in Son for Saka?

Bring in Son and make a plan to get palmer in 12 without a hit. Son looks hot the next three

I can get to this team by gw 12. Needs 2 hits. Worth it in the long run?

    Raya - Valdimarsson
James - Ait Nouri - Moreno - Mykolenko - Harwood Bellis
    Salah - Palmer - Mbuemo - Rogers - Sangare
    Haaland - Havertz - Larsson

Does anyone know how the price changes work in UCL fantasy? There's two things I'm not sure on:

Are they related to transfers in/out or manually adjusted according to how many points someone has scored?

How long after a Matchday do they take place?

Have just activated my wildcard and would prefer to do it all now as I'll forget otherwise but feel like I might miss out on some good price rises by not waiting

    1. GreennRed
      • 14 Years

Price changes are linked to performances:
Player prices will stay the same until the Matchday 2 deadline. For Matchday 3 onwards, some players’ prices will be adjusted based on their performances in the previous games. Prices will keep changing throughout the season depending on how many points they score.

Cheers, have a 0% owned Takumi Minamino so hoping they crank him up by 0.2 before I sell, will wait a couple of days and hope they adjust

Prices don't change much in UCL. Minamino not great in first two games so maybe tip on with WC moves from now. Not sure if you get half if the price rise like FPL.

Seems like you do get the full amount when selling so could be worth the wait, got at least one more I'd expect to rise. Never played UCL before so not sure of the game dynamics yet.

I might WC gw12, this gw with a -4 and next gw ft i will take out saka & esr with (IB 20.2), get which duo of these :

    A) foden (have haland)
    B) son/johnson
    C) palmer
    D) garnacho

Im leaning towards foden this gw (for good fixtures) & palmer next gw & neglect manu & spurs assets (pts too spread across spurs players)

Definitely not looking the like of Saka & Havertz in my squad next week!

    Flekken
    Porro Gabriel Lewis
    Palmer Saka* Mbuemo Rogers
    Haaland Havertz DCL
    Fabianski // Semenyo Mykolenko Greaves*

    - May play Mykolenko (FUL) ahead of Gabriel (LIV)
    - May play Semenyo (AVL) ahead of DCL (FUL) or Rogers (BOU)

    Saka/Havertz to...
    A) Salah/Larsen
    B) Son/Wood
    C) Son/Cunha
    D) Son/Jimenez
    E) Son/Wissa (maybe bit premature?)
    F) Son/Solanke

Both are good honestly. Top two probably handier price points for swapping, but with an extra FT bottom two are fine too.

Given you can get Rogers from Villa & Johnson/Solanke from Spurs as alternative, perhaps the bottom is better.

I'd probably keep Saliba then. I can only see City getting 1 CS in the next 4 vs the Saints this weekend. Add to that the potential of an occasional Pep benching. The flexibility that an extra transfer in future will give you should be taken into account also. At the same time though Arsenal's defence has been underperforming lately.

In a similar spot and am also starting to think Raya is the best one to lose to help fund Palmer.

Ideally want to keep TAA, Gabriel higher ceiling than Raya and don’t want to sell Solanke before Palace.

Tempted by Flekken over Sanchez? I know Brentford defence is awful and yet to keep a CS but fixtures much better than Sanchez and he’s 0.3m cheaper. Or you think better to go Sanchez and ride out the tough fixtures?

I stumbled across this article in pre-season and thought I'd give it a go. BPS appears to have a near perfect correlation with a goalkeeper's points. Sanchez is scoring highly on BPS and is less expensive than those around him.

    It's probably dumb but I'm tempted by a -12...

    Flekken
    Porro Gabriel Lewis
    Palmer Saka* Mbuemo Rogers
    Haaland Havertz DCL
    Fabianski // Semenyo Mykolenko Greaves*

    Saka > Salah
    Semenyo > Johnson

On +100.9 currently but I imagine there are a few wildcards in play. I’d say probably not but definitely soon

I’ll just make the move now, at least no risk of injury in midweek game *touch wood*

Is there a reason why most content creators are ignoring Dalot as a Saliba replacement? Want to make sure I’m not missing something…

They're afraid of Man United assets.

I am thinking of bringing in Dalot in GW11. I think they will concede away to West Ham though. Probably to a Bowen goal.

Thanks. Don’t expect much the next two games but I need a saliba replacement and long term I think he’s it

Yeah should be a good option long term. I think goals and assists will come soon and he has a good run of fixtures coming up.

5.1 is effective 5.5 more than 5m. That's expensive in season when Defenders suck with bps changes

I'd like both long term. If I had to choose I'd go Palmer

Thoughts on Bruno ... His xgi looks pretty decent even if he hasn't been scoring the points and just have a feeling united will go on a run (with decent fixtures too)
