Depends on if you want to bring in a midfielder or a forward.

In isolation I'd probably sell Wood first, but if you really want to bring in a midfielder then I'd sell Mbeumo.

Im polish, i have to confess something. When Klopp left Dortmund, for Liverpool, the best club in the world, i tought he will bring Lewandowski with him, since theyve won so much together, instead he did go to Bayern. Remember the Bayern vs Dortmund, Lewandowski vs Haaland games, now hes top scorer la liga again, 100 goals in champions league, wonder how todays game would look like city vs pool, haaland vs lewandowski again 🙂 What could have been :/

    A - Isak to Jackson

Ive brought Pedro and Cunha this GW, both blanked, consider other options. Also D, nice players to bench, play BB 😛 You Elon Musk or something? How much money do you have to bench such players? If youre willing to bench Isak, then move him imo.

      1. The Tonberry
        • 1 Year
        1 year, 24 days ago

        Haha not Elon Musk no

Brought Isak in for the West Ham game on the basis it would be a longer term hold. I'd only bench him if it was a short term injury.

But the allure of a plum fixture for Jackson against Southampton plus so many good fixtures ahead for Chelsea, means I do want to try and get Jackson in at some stage.

Just saying, if youre giving 8+m for a striker you want to bench, just move him, i would. Its like paying for Trent or Gvardiol 7/6m and then bench them, waste of cash imo.

What is your criteria for making a transfer? I find it interesting how many people are willing to make moves because they feel they need to get rid of a (non-injured) player or bring one in that's in form, without knowing what the other end of the transfer will be. I know chasing points will always be a thing and I am more patient/stubborn than most, but transfers are precious and players like Mbeumo being seen as a priority does seem a bit odd to me

Mbeumo to Bowen is hardly point-chasing. I just thought the latter is a lot more progressive than the former of late, and has better fixtures.

      1. Flaming Flamingo
        • 9 Years
        1 year, 24 days ago

If you are confident in Bowen and not in Mbeumo then I see no problem. It's more in response to posts like "I need to get rid of Mbeumo, who do I bring in?". Players don't usually go from great to terrible FPL players overnight, is my general point

He’s been gash for weeks, stuck out on the wing. And only seems to score points at home. And his upcoming home fixtures are pretty horrible. Keep him if you want, I cannot wait to get rid.

      1. Flaming Flamingo
        • 9 Years

Mbeumo plays 90 minutes every week, is on pens, plays up front against tougher opposition and has been a consistently great FPL asset in Toney's absence in the past. I'm not saying everyone should keep him necessarily but rather if you aren't confident in any of the replacements, he isn't someone who people should be getting rid of at all costs

Everything you mention is 100% apart from when Wissa was out he was up top & so the big points flowed now Wissa is back the big points are flowing through him.

Brentford's most expensive signing is a fwd yet Wissa’s form is keeping him out.

I know he plays for 90 mins and is on pens, you’re right. But he isn’t scoring any points.

And he hasn’t been unlucky either, his underlying numbers are terrible. Plus his fixtures are about to fall off a cliff.

          1. Flaming Flamingo
            • 9 Years
            1 year, 24 days ago

I agree about the underlying numbers. I think of Mbeumo as being quite fixture proof though and expect his numbers to improve as he gets more minutes up top

Apart from Chelsea and Spurs, his record against the top sides is actually very poor.

    5. The Tonberry
      • 1 Year

For me it's a combination of form and fixtures. I try to gauge how long I'd want that player in my team for and then look for an exit strategy to move onto a better option when the fixtures or form dries up.

With Mbeumo, the plan was always to move him on after the Leicester game with the option of bringing one of Bruno or Saka in the team. Saka's form (and Mbeumo's) made it an easy call to do the transfer.

      1. Flaming Flamingo
        • 9 Years
        1 year, 24 days ago

The only slight caveat to that is historically Mbeumo has been one of the most fixture proof players in the game, as he tends to shift from the wing to up front in more difficult fixtures. That said, Saka is an obvious upgrade if you have the funds!

For me it's a combination of form and ownerhsip. If a player hits form with a high onwership I wouldn't mind a hit to get that player in.

      1. Flaming Flamingo
        • 9 Years
        1 year, 24 days ago

I try to ignore both personally, as weird as that sounds. Form tends to be driven by fixtures and other factors, so I tend to apply current context (fixtures, fitness, team injuries etc.) to my existing opinion of a player as an FPL option when deciding on which transfers to make

    7. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years
      1 year, 24 days ago

Its certainly more than just replacing injured players. That would make for a rather dull game. Of course there are plenty of moves I make which could backfire but what's life without a little risk, e.g. sold Bruno & Son this week

      1. Flaming Flamingo
        • 9 Years
        1 year, 24 days ago

Of course! My point is rather that it seems like people seem happy to make transfers because they are desperate to bring someone in (or get rid of someone), even if their team is otherwise solid or they are not confident in the alternatives to the player they want to sell. The risk you are willing to take will likely vary depending on how many free transfers you have, but they are still finite and carry an opportunity cost

        1. The Mentaculus
          • 4 Years
          1 year, 24 days ago

It's a very rare circumstance that I look at my team & not have at least 1 or 2 players I think I could improve on. But maybe one way to answer your question that isn't just 'form & fixtures' is to say I usually have a set timeframe for most of my squad in mind - i.e. Saka/Gabriel are pretty much set & forget for now, Mitoma I bought for 13-18 then will likely move on, etc. So it's quite heavily fixtures-based and I try to keep at least one spot in each position fairly flexible for fixture-hopping

          1. Flaming Flamingo
            • 9 Years
            1 year, 24 days ago

That is more or less how I think of it as well. The only small difference for me this season is that when I bring a player in, I am usually open to keeping them in the longer term as well, even when fixtures turn. I haven't always had 8 attackers in the past, but it does allow a bit more flexibility and patience with my transfers

    8. g40steve
      • 7 Years
      1 year, 24 days ago

My criteria was I needed Saka so even though Mbeumo had Leicester at home I stuck to the plan & on this occasion rewarded handsomely.

      1. The Tonberry
        • 1 Year
        1 year, 24 days ago

        That was a good call.

I wanted Saka too but felt I could have squeezed one more good game out of Mbeumo who had returned in every home game until yesterday.

Mbeumo to Saka done as soon as Farteta subbed him off.

I keep a note of my transfer success/fail each week. Recording performance over the following 5 gw. This season I am at all time low of -9. So by my own stats it has been better to be patient.

I try to get good players and get rid of those who are not in good form or have bad fixtures. At early stages of the season I also try to win TV or SV in order to make gains during last third of the season.

Mbeumo is an issue now, but injured Isak and Gabriel having likely had concussion means that there are bigger issues to solve. Losing possibly money on Mbeumo is not nice, but Jackson may gain the losses back and is better target player to have than any Mbeumo replacement now (my midfield has also Saka, Palmer, Salah and Rogers). I am also considering getting TAA for Barco for a hit as a long term transfer that may pay the cost back immediately. I like to keep my team intact in order to not fall behind from the "optimal team".

Guys, remember the Leicester season? Everyone who started GW1 with Mahrez and Vardy got so ahead. Is Mahrez still in City? Did they sell him? Such a great player, since hes gone to City, barely seen him, now not even know if hes still there. Its the future for Foden if he doesnt move from the club i think.

I personally think something has gone on behind-the-scenes regarding Foden. I know there's been chatter about his fitness, but I refuse to believe Foden wouldn't give it his all for his boyhood club. Last season he looked like the sort of player you could build a team around, this season he's abject. There's something in the water.

Last season he was best player in the league ;] Damn, ive kept money in the bank for after GW1, when he wasnt fit, to bring him in, and theres no "water", i think its Peps bald ego. I think Foden’s eyes turned to some extent like Rashford.

Couple of years ago Rashfords big contract was coming to an end & that season he lit up the Prem he then gets the huge 400k contract & suddenly form drops off a cliff, I might be wrong but the hunger & desire don’t seem there.

Same here. Can't see myself using my only FT just to bench Rogers.
      Rogers - BRE, SOU
      Bowen - lei, WOL
      Mitoma - ful, lei
      Odegaard - MUN, ful

Just watched a short from the fifa awards or whatever it is, can someone explain to me why was Natalie Portman giving out an award? Do the world lack football stars for it, we need hollywood who dont know anything about the sport?

      She created Angel City FC

"Angel City FC is the Los Angeles area's first women's professional soccer team since the Los Angeles Sol of Women's Professional Soccer folded in 2010.[1] The team has many high-profile owners, including Natalie Portman, America Ferrera, Mia Hamm, Sophia Bush, Abby Wambach, and Eva Longoria."

    Is Palmer value at £10.9m?

Take away the games against Wolves and Brighton - that’s 3G and 2A. Just not consistent enough returns bar the odd explosive week.

Having said that considering bringing him due to FOMO. Thoughts?

    1. The Tonberry

He's a known flat track bully and Chelsea have just started a very nice run of fixtures which should see them through the next couple of months. Not playing in Chelsea's European games also adds to Palmer's appeal.

He's definitely worth trying to fit him in your team

Personally I look at the fixtures & ignoring colours I don’t see a hard game for Chelsea the way they are playing.

I mean their B team would give would probably be top 6-10.

Jackson & Palmer double up here.

I've been asking myself the same question. His last 6 GWs have yielded 1 goal and 1 assist. If he can't turn things around in the next couple of weeks I will certainly have to seriously consider moving him on.

Next few games will answer that. Could be a useful stepping-stone back to Haaland if and when.

You can’t take away games someone does well in though …

Talisman and penalty taker for Chelsea and third highest point scorer in the game … for 10 mill … what’s not like ?

Really helpful comments. I think I will transfer him in and for those that do have him, it makes sense to keep given fixtures.

Sounds like a good enabler for Haaland’s return as suggested in one of the comments and reassess after these more ‘favour able’ fixtures are done. Thanks All

No. 1 goal, 1 assist in 6 games. Hopefully his form will bounce soon. Great pick under Poch, Chelsea relied on his attacking output. Better balance under Maresca. Jackson looks a better pick.

The last paragraph on this articles got me thinking about Greaves & options after watching today’s Pool game who replaces Konate?

    A Keep Greaves

B Nori (terrible purchase & Wolves cannot defend) to Gomez/Quansah

C Not seen any news for Veltman absence so him to Pool

    1. Ausman

    Saka Salah Palmer, mbuemo*, Bruno*
    Cunha, wissa, Pedro.

Plan is to get Jackson, Semenyo funded by one of my mids. But who to sell?

    A - mbuemo
    B - Bruno

    1 - Wissa
    2 - Pedro.

I know Brentfords fixtures roughen up a bit, (so A1 is obvious) but their home goal scoring form /record is pretty good. I like Wissa a lot

Best Wood replacement - got Pedro and Wissa as other strikers

    A Evanilson
    B Cunha
C Jackson ( any concern over midweek rotation?))
D Watkins ( leaves 0 in bank so limits future flexibility)

    Bench two?

    Gab v utd

    Ran v eve

Myko and probably Lewis - see how City play today before deciding

You can’t bench Gabriel, Brentford are toothless away from home so would want to start Konsa and RAN for attacking potential

    2. Mother Farke
      • 1 Year

Decent options. I'd say RAN for one, as Wolves can't defend and he's not playing OOP anymore anyway. Konsa and Mykolenko have the lowest ceilings after that.

Got to decide whether to stick and have 3 FT for next weekend, or make move now Mbuemo to Saka and Isak to Evanilson.

Ideally would stick but Konate and Isak injuries muddying the waters somewhat now. Defence is a problem but it’s not exactly like playing defenders are lighting it up at the moment anyway.

    Team is:

    Sanchez, Jorgensen
Gabriel, Greaves, Konate, Dalot, Van de Ven
    Salah, Bruno, Palmer, Mbuemo, Roger’s
    Isak, Wood, Cunha

Kind of tempted to stick and have 3 for next weekend.
