With the next Fantasy Premier League (FPL) deadline almost upon us, we’re getting insight and team reveals from our panel of Hall of Famers and guest writers. Here, three-time top 500 finisher FPL General reveals his plans for Gameweek 15 and beyond.

General Gameweek 13

Gameweek 14 Review

Gameweek 14 was another good one. That’s three green arrows on the bounce, climbing from 750k to 85k. Hopefully, I can keep this momentum going during the festive fixtures. I banked the transfer so there are two available for the Gameweek 15.

The Vitalii Mykolenko (£4.3m) auto-sub will go down as one of the highlights of my season! Having a defender from a Sean Dyche team as the first sub is always a viable play. The assist was a welcome bonus. Everton’s fixtures take a nasty turn now however, so I hope he’s not needed again! The William Saliba (£6.0m) goal, clean sheet and three bonus points ensured the arrow would be a green one. Keeping it simple and choosing him as the Trent Alexander-Arnold (£6.9m) replacement a few weeks ago has worked out well. Now that he’s fit again, I’d like to get the Liverpool defender back soon. Rayan Ait-Nouri (£4.9m) has somehow managed to post back-to-back zero-pointers since he joined the squad. He might not stay around for long if he keeps that up…

Having Mohamed Salah (£13.3m) as captain would’ve put the icing on the cake in what was a great Gameweek but I never really considered it. I was always going to give the armband to Cole Palmer (£11.0m) for the Southampton fixture. Getting just one attacking return when Chelsea put five past the Saints was frustrating. It might be time to perma-captain Salah. Ten double-digit hauls in 14 matches is ridiculous. He’s still the king of FPL!

It’s six blanks in his last seven appearances for Bryan Mbeumo (£7.7m) and with the next five fixtures for Brentford looking tricky, I’m inclined to let him go. Choosing the replacement is the hard part. Bruno Fernandes (£8.5m) and Chris Wood (£6.5m) are possibly on the chopping block this week too.

JJ Okocha was a real football legend. I wonder how he fared in terms of FPL points.

Ba looked to be walking gingerly after the hard tackle from Terry. another long term injury it seems.

Benayoun comes into consideration after the hatty of assists. Going 3-5-2 with Yossi.

Noticed FPL stats have caved and now have Trent 97% towards a rise. He was -11% a couple hours ago.

Hub still have him at -10%

Looks like Live may have been right all along on it

He'd been climbing all day, but stats and live both say he's going up, as you say. Fix and Hub say later in the week.

There’s no way of knowing but I’d love to know the stats on the effect boredom of a player has on selection.

I took a lot of flack about my insistence that Salah was more must have than Haaland and whilst I am smug about it, I’m more interested in why people were so off Salah and the only conclusion I could logically come to was it’s boring to own the same players every season.

It’s fun to own new players. It’s why Palmer is a sexier pick than Saka and why Haaland is a sexier pick than Salah.

Remember when we all owned Werner because he was new, or Jesus because he moved to Arsenal.

I think “change” has a change influence on sentiment.

Shame Salah is still the fpl goat 🙂

I’ve already accepted my smugness, no pretence or humbleness here, not trying to pretend otherwise but I am genuinely interested. I think we all (myself included) prefer owning new players and somewhat back out the logic for doing so. Just wondered if others agreed.

Alternatively what was the other logic for the 20-30% ownership difference between Salah and Haaland at the start of the season?

        1. David Parkinson
          • 3 Years
          12 months, 4 days ago

Perhaps Haaland's explosiveness after a good rest? I'm sure many had both though as neither had a tiring Summer and other options had.

Oh absolutely, I was a big advocate of owning both pre season for exactly this reason.

The point is not all that many did have both, it was a very prevalent narrative that you had to pick and that you should pick Haaland.

My position was always should start with both - because it’s easier to downgrade than upgrade - but if you had to have only one only have Salah

        That's a little harsh. I think he's onto something.

I know that I sometimes can feel this bias a little bit. The desire to chase a high potential differential rather than the reliable steady-eddy.

I didn't go Salah to start the season for good reasons I think. New manager, uncertainty with his position with Slot's tactics. It made sense to start the season with just one of Haaland or Salah. And going Haaland wasn't exactly a mistake considering how City started.

It’s easy with hindsight to make these kind of judgements. Salah seemed like he might be showing some age in his last 2 seasons. And he’s on a crazy ru now. People saying they saw that coming are just acting smug based on hindsight.

That’s just not true though. Salah scored a combined 450 points in the last two seasons and basically matched Haaland last season. It’s a complete myth that there were signs of a drop off. Or at the very least one that justified starting without him.

Thanks, understand my post won’t land well but hoped there was a point in there - what was your logic for starting with only one out of interest?

My logic is always start with the big guns even if your team is unbalanced as so much easier to downgrade than upgrade.

So I never really saw the logic in picking between the two,
