Back for a new season, with “sailing fan” Granville now woken from his Olympic dream, we return for another podcast after a three-month hiatus.

While some of the regulars are shelved this week, we talk over the Sky Sports Game, welcome new Fantasy Football double act “Fenners & Merse” and start the clear up after Robin Van Persie kicked over the applecart.

The episode is underpinned by a new concept – the idea that Granville and I can join forces and actually be effective. The premise is we pick a ScoutCast XI and cross our beams to co-manage it over the season, arguing the toss in every ScoutCast episode on transfers and substitutions. The aim is harmony and a united success. It seems unlikely to end that way.

Oh, and there are actually two of my “jokes” that Granville misses in this episode – see if you can make out the second. I swear he was dreaming of gold medals in the sailing.

      Santi, assured a starting sport and playing just off of Giroud in the new set up, where as Valencia(as a United fan) offers an extremely limited style of play in that he is the most one footed human being, never mind footballer to have walked the planet

      I really like this team.

      Friedal is the only player there that I really don't like, it seems that Spurs are desperate to get another number one so you may have to take Friedal out at the end of the transfer window, what about Szczesny or Schwarzer?

      Boyce/Zab/Hangeland are great shouts, Fabio and QPR I am not so sure, but he is 4.5m so why not. Midfield is solid, who is FFL though?

      Bent/Graham and Tevez is different and I think has the potential to set you apart.

      No interest in DGW?

        Thanks JU. FFL is Lamps. The Tottenham goalkeeper is a dilemna but before 31/8 and the close of the transfer window, I am sure I will have a few more headaches to contend with. i want Spurs defensive cover and at 5.5m is cheap as chips.

        DGW, represented in Lamps and Mata. Not convinced by the Torres hype.

          Kaboul is 5.5, Gallas and Dawson are 5.0, so, if you wait you can get your Spurs defensive cover (with Kaboul favourite to partner Vertonghen), and if not, you can get Gallas or Dawson for .5 cheaper.

          I had been going Friedal too, I just think keeper transfers are the worst type of transfers to HAVE to make once you start the season, I think Fulham and Schwarzer are better value, but, you have a pretty solid team, you clearly know what you are doing!

      Not bad TBH. Reckon you could get more out of downgrading Nasri to a cheaper midfielder who gets loads of bonus points for passes and tackles like Britton. Maybe Arteta if he's not too expensive...

      Tevez, as he is somewhat fixture proof. Jelavic isn't. Everton might start slow again, have difficult home games and the rest are away, for the first few weeks.

        Not so simple as that though. There are more good alternative defenders than midfielders IMO so you have to factor that into the cost of choosing Kompany

      Depends on how well VDV do in the first GW.
      Either keep Mata or transfer him out for VDV. That's my plan.

      Mata is worth keeping long term though.

      Same here that is my aim. No rash decisions this season should be the key to getting into the top 10k as I always end up taking hits because of losing patients with players.

      Yea me too. I finished 355th in the 10/11 season, but couldn't log in for a few GW's last year and only finished 15,510. I always aim for top 10k!

        You know, I think if Gerrard can stay fit that you may be right, but that's a big IF. Tough fixtures in the first five, but they are at Anfield, gutsy punt that may pay dividends early doors.

      "Essential"/"Must have" is a very dangerous word to use in preseason 😉

      It's as much about being utterly nailed on as anything. For that reason yes Bale is a contender, I'd still back Rooney though.

      Yeah i like it. I would consider a chelsea defender for Vermealen and either save the 0.5 for Verm upgrade after the DGW or use Hughes to Hangeland. I really think the 0.5 for Hangeland is well worth it for goal threat and job security.

    I'm starting to want a bit more cash to spread across defence. Would it be detrimental to my team if I were to drop a 2x big hitter and 3 rotation to a 1 big hitter and 2x2 rotation?
