Back for a new season, with “sailing fan” Granville now woken from his Olympic dream, we return for another podcast after a three-month hiatus.

While some of the regulars are shelved this week, we talk over the Sky Sports Game, welcome new Fantasy Football double act “Fenners & Merse” and start the clear up after Robin Van Persie kicked over the applecart.

The episode is underpinned by a new concept – the idea that Granville and I can join forces and actually be effective. The premise is we pick a ScoutCast XI and cross our beams to co-manage it over the season, arguing the toss in every ScoutCast episode on transfers and substitutions. The aim is harmony and a united success. It seems unlikely to end that way.

Oh, and there are actually two of my “jokes” that Granville misses in this episode – see if you can make out the second. I swear he was dreaming of gold medals in the sailing.

Listen in on the squad selection via this link.

Alternatively, stream it down your pipe using the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Why VDV didn't start against Valencia?
Is he fit to start the season against Newcastle?

But i havent heard anything about him all pre season so i will assume he will start. With no striker apart from defoe tottenham will need his creativity and goal threat.

      I would go:
      1, Nasri
      2, Valencia
      3, Carzorla
4, VDV (if you dont have Bale)
5, Gerrard - wait until pools fixtures ease up after GW6

VDV as he is Spurs highest average points scorer per game. Valencia is in even more of a rotation scrap after the signing of RVP. Cazorla is unknown but will be an important part of Arsenals season. Nasri will be involved in rotation at City and Gerrard isn't a fifth of the player he once was

Valencia is United's most potent attacking player, there is no way he will become "rotation scrap", the right of the pitch, whether it's filling in as RB or playing RW is his for the most part, no player these days is immune from rotation.

If Gerrard stays fit, I think he will have a good scoring season.

Torres captain. Guthrie over Noble/Graham as he'll probably get 4 points minimum, I mean the other two would need and assist just to marginally beat his appearance points.

So, you fancy Graham to score/assist against QPR away from home? I have a similar problem of playing Guthrie but not knowing whom to bench out of N'zogbia and Graham? What do you think?

Half of QPRs defence is new, Green is no better than Kenny. So I fancy something from Graham, he is their main man now.

I would favour playing a forward over mid but NZog and Graham is a tough call. I would prob fancy NZog vs promoted team. Tbh If you have other DGW cover I would swap Guthrie for Puncheon etc and take matter out of your hand as both NZog and Graham could out do Guthrie.

Haha, that's exactly what I was thinking but I wouldn't want to bench Puncheon against the likes of Wigan (H). The thing is, Guthrie rotates with Graham brilliantly so after this 1 week there'll be no headache as I'll play N'zogbia every week as I fancy Villa to be attacking against everyone.

I think the main thing is, Graham is the main forward and in (pre-season) form and his picked by more so his benched points would hurt more than N'zogbia's, I also fancy West Ham to be tough at home.

              Thanks for your thoughts.

There are various problems with it, firstly, you then should end up benching more money each week. In a 3-way rotation you get a better choice of fixtures and hence you can do something cheap like 4.5/4.0/4.0 or even 4.0/4.0/4.0 so you may well end up benching 8.0 each week. In a 2-way rotation you get a worse choice of fixtures so you may end up playing 4.5/4.5 4.5/4.5 causing you to bench 9.0 each week. Also I looked at this a while ago - rotating players generally misses loads of away clean sheets. Playing a better defender all the time doesn't.

I agree with ISACKI with regards to missing away clean sheets... this year I've gone with 3 strong defenders and 2x 4m defenders, who will play for their teams each week but only in my team via auto sub

I have a few problems with this team:
      1, Defence is horrid
2, Siggy- unsure of role, get Bale
3, Jelavic - evertons slow start.

I would prob change jelly to graham and use the 1.5 to upgrade Siggy to Bale and Konch to Ivaovic

    Bale / Carzola / Lampard / Pienaar / Ireland

      GK are awful.

Riise and Dawson are poor picks at this stage.

Pog will be hard to trade out unless you save 1.0 to go for petric / graham after the DGW.

      Ireland is a tease.

      Noble.

Who knows how the promoted teams will go.

NOR v FUL will have goals in it, take a punt on Kaclac and graham has had a great pre season.

I'd only play Noble when your other options have poor fixtures, so I'd bench him this week.

Who should I start, Pienaar or Guthrie. Guthrie being nailed on will surely yield 4 points overall for mearly playing enough mins. Will pienaar produce against United?
