Chip Strategy

Those Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers still with a Wildcard to use will be seriously considering deploying it ahead of Gameweek 32.

In this article, we will assess the advantages of activating it now, then provide a few draft ideas.

Don’t forget that you can get your Wildcard team rated via our Rate My Team tool or the Plan FPL planner!

REASONS TO WILDCARD

Who to pick as Assistant Manager in FPL Gameweek 31? 1

  • We now know the schedule until Gameweek 36, allowing Gameweeks 33 and 34 to be set aside for chip usage. The next round of fixtures has Newcastle United and Crystal Palace playing twice, with the Eagles one of four to then have a Double Gameweek 33. Wildcarders can go all-in on these sides.
  • Activating in the very final weeks reduces the impact of FPL’s most powerful chip. Whereas doing it now gives seven Gameweeks of benefits.
  • Managers yet to Wildcard will likely still have some of the highly-owned injury victims Gabriel Magalhaes (£6.3m), Erling Haaland (£14.8m), Chris Wood (£7.0m), Justin Kluivert (£6.1m) and Ola Aina (£5.3m). This is an opportunity to immediately sell them all and improve squad depth.

REASONS NOT TO WILDCARD

FPL notes: Isak + Trippier injury updates,

  • There aren’t too many reasons to keep your Wildcard untouched, but one is that it blocks Alexander Isak (£9.5m) from being your Triple Captain during Double Gameweek 32. At home to Manchester United and Crystal Palace, it’s arguably the best remaining time to use it.

GAMEWEEK 32 WILDCARD TEAM IDEAS

DRAFT 1: GAMEWEEK 33 BENCH BOOST + GAMEWEEK 34 FREE HIT
FPL Gameweek 32 Wildcard: Three drafts to consider

This chip strategy will be popular amongst the Fantasy community, as it concentrates on maximising the imminent doubles without worrying about big Blank Gameweek 34.

One downside is that Newcastle have a tricky, singular trip to Aston Villa in Gameweek 33. Having three of those on a Bench Boost seems like a bad idea, so let’s leave out defensive coverage. If that doesn’t appeal, you could opt to include Tino Livramento (£4.5m) and sell him the following week. Isak is fixture-proof, though.

Bukayo Saka (£10.4m) is in over Cole Palmer (£10.7m) because the Chelsea attacker’s nine-match goalless streak included failures at home to Southampton and Leicester City, making the Ipswich Town match less scary for non-owners. After that one, Saka has better fixtures.

Additionally, this draft opts for Ismaila Sarr (£5.7m) over Morgan Rogers (£5.6m) as the Palace man has a double-double and more secure game time. Rogers usually avoids all Villa rotations, but this Southampton trip could be the exception, as it lies between both Paris Saint-Germain legs. It also makes Ezri Konsa (£4.4m) risky.

Alongside the double Arsenal defence is Liverpool’s Conor Bradley (£4.7m), who returned to action with an assist in his cameo.

DRAFT 2: NO BENCH BOOST BUT GAMEWEEK 34 FREE HIT

    Amazing result

    Congrats Arsenal

TBF I thought best would be a draw - felt possible Real Madrid by a goal especially
with missing Gabriel & no recognised striker - what do I know.

    Villa v Arsenal semi anyone?

2 fts and BB32, what do you prefer?

    A) Saka > Rogers
    B) Saka, Mitchell > Eze, Saliba (triple palace attack in that case)

Need a miracle in ML. Going to have some fun with a punt TC. Has to be someone obscure (that my opponent doesn't have) who can score big.

    A) Minteh
    B) Joao Pedro
    C) Rashford
    D) Asencio
    E) someone else

Surely it’s better used in a double? Chance you could get city playing Southampton and Bournemouth in 36. Foden or kdb could be a real differential. Or even Haaland if he’s just returning

        I don't think so.

It's about differential. I need a TC that he would never have. Our teams are identical.

It's too obvious to make it a DGW player that he will more than likely also transfer in and may captain also

Have exact money. Safe to do foden to saka now? Unless do you think saka could be getting rests in 33 for ucl? I could bench him this week if need be. Also don’t see myself wanting Foden anymore. Looks way off it

Will probably bench Saka this week. Suspect he'll be rested/brought on as sub.

Do you think he’ll be safe to start from then on? Or do you think they’ll rest him with the league likely out of reach but champions league still a possibility?

If they're still in Champions League, suspect there'll be a fair amount of rotation. So not a guaranteed starter assuming they get past Real. I'm not sure if/how long I'll keep Saka beyond GW33.

Thing is if Liverpool lose one vs Tottenham or Chelsea, Arsenal could be within 3 points if they beat them

Unsure if it’s worth bringing him in. Not sure who else to go to though

    GW32:

    Raya
    Munoz Burn Milenkovic
    Salah Palmer Murphy Sarr
    Isak Mateta Marmoush

    Areola Saka Gvardiol Konsa

    1FT 1.4m itb

BB GW33: Use two FTs for Palmer and Murphy to Merino and Rogers

    FH GW34

    What do you think?

    1. Bad Kompany
      • 7 Years

Sounds sensible. I’d monitor minutes in champions league for the two but doing it next week anyway so might have additional info. I’d potentially be tempted by rashford

Thanks. And considering trading Burn up to Saliba instead of selling Murphy (who's in excellent form), but every time I double up on Ars defence, never seems to work for me.

I think id prefer that. Not sure if merino is nailed for striker and Murphy is solid. Clean sheets are less likely to happen than not normally. Feel like they aren’t as much as a troll as people think

Not bad at all for BB in GW32. Of all the Ars/Villa assets you might want, suspect Raya and Rogers most likely to play. Areola to Liv not great - he gets Sou GW33. But you'll want to bring more DGW assets in if thinking BB GW33 to make it worth it. Depends on FTs and whether you want to use any?

Nightmare. I need to shift Gabriel before he drops again tonight, for a BB GW33 double, and I've already got Gvardiol, Konsa, Munoz plus Burn for this weekend.

I quite like the assman chip, but there is something a bit irritating about it. Basically assman managers affect game weeks too much.

Last two weeks and probably the next two weeks will have loads of assman's active, so they skew the overall ranks etc. I don't know how to word this properly, but hopefully someone understands what I mean. 3 weeks is way too long. If they bring it back, make it a one week thing, and change the table bonus thing, do 1 point for every place different.

    1. FFS ManU
      • 3 Years

I agree - any chip should only impact one gameweek.

Problem with making it 1 week, is it likely becomes only viable in the last 2-3 rounds of the season and you dont want a chip that is so limited imo.

Would be used in that period purely because you'd have the most likely table bonus chances.
