Eight-time top 10k finisher Zophar hosts his weekly Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Q&A ahead of Gameweek 32. Here, the topics include Phil Foden (£9.2m), Gameweek 33 Bench Boost defenders and how to guess the Aston Villa lineup.

Triple Captain Assistant Manager

Q: Is Jakub Kiwior (£4.8m) an option if he’s only needed for a Gameweek 33 Bench Boost? Who is the best defender up to £5.0m for that?

Q: Who is the best replacement, as a Gabriel Magalhaes (£6.2m), Ezri Konsa (£4.4m) and Abdukodir Khusanov (£5.0m) owner? My plan for Gameweek 33 Bench Boost was to sell Gabriel and Khusanov to Kiwior and Josko Gvardiol (£6.1m) but there’s a reluctance on Kiwior.

Kiwior

(via THE RED DEVIL and @bharat_batra86)

A: Kiwior started for Arsenal in Gabriel’s absence earlier in the season, when the Brazilian was injured. But it’s important to remember that Ben White (£6.1m) was unavailable for the Gunners then.

I think he will start both in Gameweek 33 but there is a degree of risk attached, as White could come in at centre-back – or even Jurrien Timber (£5.6m).

Over at Manchester City, Khusanov also seems like a rotation red flag with Manuel Akanji (£5.3m) close to a comeback. So I’d look to move him on.

The player I currently favour as a replacement isn’t even a Double Gameweek guy – it’s Liverpool’s Conor Bradley (£4.7m). I expect him to start in both Gameweeks 32 and 33, versus West Ham United and Leicester City.

His upside is significant compared to Kiwior and I think that – even with one fixture – he could outscore the Polish international and you don’t have to worry about rotation, especially in the short term. Perhaps Gameweek 37 or 38 sees Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.2m) start as part of his send-off.

Q: Which Aston Villa midfielder is best to buy?

Q: Taking rotation and the two-day turnaround between games into account, which Aston Villa players are worth buying for their Southampton game and Double Gameweek 33?

FPL notes: Villa + City edge closer to Blank Gameweek 34

(via THE KNIGHTS TEMPLATE and FPL VIRGIN)

A: Villa are the only team that are still in both the FA Cup and Champions League. They lost Wednesday’s first Paris Saint-Germain leg 3-1 and face them again on Tuesday, so mass rotation is expected for the normally appealing Southampton trip.

Marcus Rashford (£6.7m) starting at centre-forward in Paris has me thinking that he might be on the bench here, with Ollie Watkins (£8.9m) leading the line. Marco Asensio (£6.2m) was also benched but feels like a player they’ll want for the second leg, meaning his minutes might be managed too.

A probable starter on the south coast is Donyell Malen (£5.3m), as he’s not registered in their Champions League squad. But will he begin both Gameweek 33 occasions and beyond? It’s very difficult to say, especially as Villa will also want to rotate ahead of the FA Cup semi-final and possible final.

Anyway, this is all a long-winded way to reach the answer you probably know already – it’s Morgan Rogers (£5.6m).

Q: What to do with Phil Foden?

FPL Gameweek 18 differentials: Martinelli, Mateta + Foden 2

(via @James_Co24)

A: After a full rest against Leicester, Pep Guardiola preferred to use Foden on the wing, with Kevin De Bruyne (£9.3m) playing the number 10 role. I thought the Belgian was quite ineffective in that position and see Foden returning to that spot, though his poor form makes it far from certain.

However, in Gameweeks 32, 33 and 35, Man City are the first kick-off, meaning there could be some lineup leaks. If he’s benched in Gameweek 32, you play one of your substitutes and it means he should get at least one start in Double Gameweek 33.

Then, in Gameweek 35, you see if he starts versus Wolverhampton Wanderers. At that point, there might also be a Double Gameweek 36 scheduled, depending on their cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest.

Q: Who is the best Assistant Manager for Gameweek 32, Oliver Glasner (£0.8m) or Eddie Howe (£1.5m)? And which Crystal Palace or Newcastle United player should be transferred out to make room?

FPL Gameweek 26 round-up: Saturday’s goals, assists, bonus points + stats 7

(via @fplDanilo)

A: The Eagles have table bonus potential in three of their next four fixtures, so I’d favour Glasner over Howe. I don’t particularly fancy Newcastle’s chances away at Aston Villa in Gameweek 33 and using a transfer there seems frivolous, given the likely carnage that awaits us closer to Gameweeks 36 and 37.

I don’t see clean sheets for Palace in their consecutive doubles, so I’d look to transfer out Daniel Munoz (£5.2m). But if you’re struggling to find replacement defenders, it could be Ismaila Sarr (£5.7m) instead.

Q: Which trio of Arsenal and Aston Villa players should Gameweek 33 Bench Boost users get?

FPL notes: Ruthless Arsenal, Rice advanced, Haaland x Savinho link-up

(via FPL VIRGIN)

A: As mentioned, Villa’s schedule is a minefield even if they do get eliminated by PSG. Gameweek 32 will be full of rotation and the second part of Double Gameweek 33 might have the FA Cup in mind.

Then, if they do progress to the final, you’d have to worry about the latter half of Double Gameweek 36. Given their lack of clean sheets, nobody except Emiliano Martinez (£5.0m) can be recommended at the back.

Meanwhile, Watkins isn’t a nailed-on 90-minute asset anymore. With a fully fit squad, the likes of Rashford, Asensio, Malen, or Jacob Ramsey (£5.4m) could start or be benched at any time. If I had to pick three, it would be Martinez, Konsa and Rogers.

With Arsenal, I think David Raya (£5.5m) and Bukayo Saka (£10.4m) are the obvious picks. Yet Arsenal could be a Gameweek 35 worry, with it being sandwiched between Champions League semi-finals – they’re now expected to reach that, having beaten Real Madrid 3-0 in Tuesday’s first leg. Kiwior would be a gamble, so I’ll say William Saliba (£6.5m) as a third.

We cover these questions and more in this week’s episode of The FPL Wire, which you can check out here:

    Morning all.
Have 3 Newcastle and 2 Palace for this gameweek, should I get rid of Saka for another Palace Mid? Got 2 free transfers and a really strong team so my plan is to B/B 32 and get Saka back in next week? Cheers…

So i went into this week with BB32 in mind, and i don't think that's changed. I want to use it ASAP, and my defenders are optimal in 32.

That means i think i need to sell Saka, don't i? I can't see more than 20-30 minutes vs Brentford or Ipswich, either side of a taxing midweek in Madrid. Maybe 60-70 vs Palace but it's not great for either BB32 or TC33, is it?

you put it like that, maybe. But we brought him in knowing minutes would be a risk, didn't we?

We did but tbh, I didn't see them advancing vs Madrid.

Tuesday's result makes 32, 33, 35 and 36 much more risky for minutes than if they'd gone out, and he's blanking in 34. So it looks pretty ugly all of a sudden.

His minutes will be as you have said, especially if they win. If they lose I would worry about the motivation even if he gets 90.

Who else with BB, FH and TC left is unsure of when to use TC?

I had earmarked Isak for TC32 but fitness/minutes are a concern. Too much of a risk to hold on for DGW36 in case it doesn't materialise?

    Locked in for BB33, FH34

What is the appeal for the free hit in GW34? I have seen a few saying that.

I will use mine next GW as you will get 22 matches from the players rather than 11 with four teams missing

Obviously it's team dependent but, given how I'm preparing for BB33, I could have as few as 3/15 players playing in 34, so free hit makes sense for my team.

      2. Conners

It's a case of being an opportunity to bring in low-owned players which you probably won't want after the blank.

In my case, 7 or 8 changes from my existing squad.

There's also the fact that the DGW fixtures in 33 aren't great, and that the teams involved could rotate, therefore a full team of doublers isn't necessarily the way to go.

Many can play into the dgw33 and also BB.

The BB33 makes FH34 the right sequence because the fixtures inverse.

If you are loaded up on GW33 players for BB you could have as few as 3 players with a fixture in GW34.

I am selling Sarr to Murphy this week and AM Glasner
Munoz to Bradley is interesting maybe next week. Only see Arsenal playing a less rotated team as they have the weekend of, but if palace do well. They can't afford to either. It's like a play off race to to the premier league European qualification . I remember being miserable in 2024 everyone said no chance you were bottom 3 boxing day, but no one knew Andy Johnson yet and had scored 23 goals in 18 games since his recall. Ended up with 33 because we beat the team above us.

Aton villa especially if the beat psg and arsenal will be tired and man city will rotate.

So maybe Palace but I really hope Lacroix starts.

Glasner said it wasn't a Concussion substitution as they wanted him to come back on but Taylor was ignoring us and we were down to 8 men v 11 at the time, so we were forced into the move. I guess it depends on the doctors write up

Bit of a weird end to the season where I think price has become basically irrelevant.

Murphy at sub 5.5m is the best Newcastle midfielder. Same for Rogers over the other Villa mids. Sarr also was putting up the best numbers of any Palace asset until recently.

I went for Savinho over Foden/KdB despite having 3.6m ITB as well. Not sure about that one being correct but nevertheless, money doesn't seem like it's going to matter at all for the run-in with TAA and Haaland injured.

All the most desirable midfielders for the upcoming doubles are cheap.

One of the benefits of that is being able to let Gabriel atrophy on my bench. Already lost money on him but I want to wait until 33 before selling and his drops haven't priced me out of the moves I want to make at this stage.

I do wish Haaland had been fit to create a bit of variance/jeopardy, though...

Yep Palmers cold Saka maybe ok for the double. Is Salah signing a new deal.

It's alot easier to fit in you AM chip too.

I am even worried more about Man City goals and goals conceded after that dullfeat.

For those without FH is Cunha over next 3 gws more sexy?

People who planned to bench boost this week but are now changing their mind

Did you not expect this scenario of possible rotation to happen?

Those who picked Villa and Arsenal players, clearly not, except Raya and Martinez.

Even man city midfield is a bit of a midfield.

        Wait until next week

Buying arsenal should be ok, but man city and villa less likely Palace but reduced minutes will be on the cards

Without Rodri their midfield has been less of a midfield but is generally regarded as a midfield unlike, say, man utd whose midfield is more of an open field through which any man/boy/holiday-maker can gaily saunter and skip through at leisure

      which BB do you prefer

      A) Kepa (FUL) / Semenyo (FUL) / Konsa (sou) / Saliba (BRE)

      B) Kepa (cry) / Isak (AVL) / Burn (AVL) / Murphy (AVL)

in A) I would have Saka starting and Konsa is probably also a rotation risk.

On BB32 and FH34 who is the best replacement for Foden (12m max) for the next few GWs (32 - 35)

      Rest of Team

      Raya Verbuggen

      Robertson Livramento Munoz Gvardiol Konsa

      Salah Eze Murphy Sarr xxxxxxxx

      Isak Marmoush Pedro

BB, FH (34) and TC still left

      Any ideas would be welcomed

Well it would be Saka probably, though can’t guarantee he starts this week

Foden will be a huge differential in 33, 35 and 36

Don't you think these are good Sarr fixtures (32)? Think there's a chance he might get rotated for one?

            Hi mate. How are you?

Yes they are excellent for Sarr,

I have no FH34 so WC34 or maybe take a Munoz out to Bradley?

Feel like betrayal since our journey since GW17 to take either out. Lol

Although Sarr went out and came back in GW27 as I commited to FH29.
4 1 against Villa and 1 0 against Ipswich worked outwell

Good thanks. Yeah I think Muñoz - Bradley is the move I'd prefer if making space for Glasner. But I'm not sure if it's maybe still a week early for Bradley, and I do have a FH for 34.

Who do you have currently (AM)? I'm pretty torn between Glasner -4 or just sticking with Frank; waiting to see Palace CB availability & Arsenal predicted lineup.

I will try and dig out any info on Lacroix.

He wanted to come on..Glasner wanted him to go back on but Taylor wasn't taken any notice. We were down to 8 v 11 at the time. So the only way to get hold of Taylor attention was to sub him off for Ward who was great as his first game of the season at 35. He will get an emotional send off. One of Dougie first signings a year after 4 minutes away from liquidation in 2010

Would you bench boost with this team in GW32? Single game week players have good fixtures. Also hard to decide who to bench.

      Raya Areola
      Gvardiol Saliba Munoz Livramento Milenkovic
      Salah Saka Murphy Sarr Roger’s
      Isak Mateta Marmoush

Or should I BB in GW32 with more doublers?

We have similar teams. Got Sels, Kerkez & Eze for your Areola, Saliba and Rogers. Rest is the same. Team still looks best for BB32 despite Saka's situation imo, I'll have more DGW players in 33, but a few poor fixtures and rotation risk to deal with.
It just seems like a trap to BB in DGW33.

      Who to bench, please?

      A) Salah
      B) Palmer
      C) Marmoush

All other attackers are doubling, and trip C on Isak…

      No FH34.

Is it worth saving WC34 to35 after semi finals and European games are played.

Sarr to Murphy (and Frank to Glasner. -4

Cunha to outscore Marmoush next 3 GWs (-4)

Had to have a hard look at the fixtures and possibilities, but I really like the Marmoush > Cunha gamble. I haven't the nerves, though, and also FH34.

Is TC Isak really the best option for those of us with our TC and BB chips left? Or is it worth gambling for a tasty DGWs option in 36

Trouble with DGW 36 is one it might not happen and then you're left playing it on a SGW anyway and two if it happens the 2nd part will be days before the FA Cup Final so you're probably looking at rotation

Best 3rd Villa to own as of now in GW33 without BB? (After Rogers & Konsa)

        A: Watkins
        B: Asensio
        C: Tielemans
        D: Rashford
        E: Digne
        F: Other?

AM Glasner active so cannot use bench boost.

        C) Gabriel to Bradley
