Gameweek 35 is one of the most open Fantasy Premier League (FPL) captaincy races of the season.

A host of options vie for favouritism, primarily assets from Brentford, Manchester City and Liverpool. The captaincy selection presents a real opportunity to go against the grain – and make late-season gains.

As usual, Captain Sensible highlights which assets have the best chance of delivering a big haul.

First, we will assess the fallout of the captain poll before analysing the player and team statistics*, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ratings ahead of Friday’s 18:30 BST deadline.

*note these figures were correct before Thursday’s clash at the City Ground

THE CAPTAIN POLL

best Gameweek 35 captain

Omar Marmoush’s (£7.6m) stock may be declining following Erling Haaland‘s (£14.8m) return. However, given the Norwegian’s lengthy layoff, an expected phased return gives the Egyptian a stay of execution.

Marmoush is at the top of the pile among Man City assets in terms of recent underlying numbers.

With 4.34 non-penalty expected goal involvement (NPxGI) over the last six, he is backed by just over 25% of our voters.

Meanwhile, Bryan Mbeumo (£8.1m) is enjoying a truly break-out season as a Fantasy asset.

The Cameroon international has broken the 200-point barrier in style, his double seeing off 10-man Brighton in Gameweek 33.

He’s backed by over 21% of votes ahead of Brentford’s increasingly favourable-looking fixture against a battle-weary Man United.

Mohamed Salah (£13.8m) is in third place with 17.1% of the vote, with Kevin De Bruyne (£9.4m) and Alexander Isak (£9.6m) further back.

So you have 2 captains this week ? 😉 I'd Defo go Watkins If I were you but not TC.

That's the problem with AM it blocks other good options from that team, is Pep a better option than KDB? I doubt it but he is if he KDB doesn't start, I think Kevin starts though so I'll just go for it with captaincy

Im surprised Bowen isn't higher up the poll, playing as a striker and spurs have little recovery time

Captaincy is tough this week. If you are chasing rank then of course it matters that you get the 'right' one.

But does it matter that much in a minileague?

If you own all the top captaincy options, the points loss from captaining the 'wrong ' one is just the difference between the 2 players (it's not doubled despite the captaincy).

If there are genuinely 3 good captains (Salah Marmoush Mbuemo), are any of them going to outscore the others significantly by more than 5-6 points?

I don't want to add extra pressure but think mbeumo and marmoush or Salah could easily score between 0 and 15 points ...

Yes to the last bit. Its rare that they all return in the same week. I think at least one of them blanks, law of averages. No idea which one.

It's very hard this week indeed. I think it will be isak or mbeumo for me just become of the opponents

On paper the team with the easiest fixture is Marmoush or Mbeumo. We dont know Marmoush is on pens. Probably gets less mins than Mbeumo too. I can see why many have ended up there but I dont see Man Utd being demolished by Brentford maybe a 1 goal win. I can see City putting up the biggest win/most goals but Marmoush doesnt have to be involved necessarily whereas Mbeumo tends to be, last night exception to the rule. I think part of the reason its a tough call is none of them are on paper really high ceilings this week.

It’s hard every week with Isak and Salah so high. If you don’t C them, you basically don’t get their points. It’s a Sophie’s choice each week.

I’ll take Salah. Results be damned

I'm surprised the odds Robt puts up from spreadex were so favourable for Chelsea to be honest vs Liverpool. Feels like there is too much rotation and beach factor baked into those odds when for all we know Slot just goes full strength again. In that scenario and with Chelsea playing last night I'm surprised they are favourites

I’m a Chelsea supporter. Mo always kills us. Him and KDB, book it, they are scoring against us.

Totally rotated side for tonight’s game, doesn’t matter for PL. imo Maresca has to go earn his spot, next four games define his season, he’ll do everything to win.

Watch Nico Jackson outscore all the top forwards…

I think the thing with Wood also is the best two fixtures (West Ham & Leicester) come after a break. I'm not expecting much on Monday after a quick turnaround from last night plus Palace are very capable opposition. Wood is a great option in 36/37
