Will European involvement make Crystal Palace players less attractive in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) next season?

That’s one of the imponderables we consider as we continue with our 2025/26 team previews.

Here, the Eagles’ best FPL picks for the upcoming campaign are discussed. We’ll also attempt to predict the line-up for Gameweek 1, review pre-season, detail the best players for defensive contributions (DC) and more.

REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL

Does the 'race for 8th' mean anything after Palace's FA Cup win? 3

FORM SINCE LAST DECEMBER

A strong end to 2023/24 brought six wins and four clean sheets in seven matches but their start to 2024/25 was strangely bad. Stuck in the relegation zone due to three points from eight, Palace only won once before Gameweek 14.

FPL 2025/26 team previews: Crystal Palace – Best players, predicted line-up + more 3

Above: A 10-game rolling average of Palace’s expected goals (xG, green) compared to expected goals conceded (xGC, purple)

Yet results dramatically improved. Between then and Gameweek 28, the Eagles won nine of 15, as only Liverpool accumulated more points than their 30. Clean sheets increased, while no team had a better non-penalty expected goals (NPxG) improvement (+7.01) when comparing their first 19 and second 19 outings.

It all climaxed with a famous FA Cup final victory over Manchester City, securing the club’s first-ever trophy.

SET-PIECE THREAT

A big chunk of this success was because of dead-ball situations. No Premier League side had more of them end in a shot (173), as they delivered 17 goals – joint-top with Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, though Palace pipped both for set-piece expected goals (xG, 17.02).

FPL 2025/26 team previews: Crystal Palace – Best players, predicted line-up + more 4

Just Everton ended with a higher proportion of goals from these.

Individually, Eberechi Eze (£7.5m) was top of the pile for set-play shots (36) and teammate Maxence Lacroix (£5.0m) ranked joint-second (27) thanks to his 20 headers.

REASONS TO BE FEARFUL

FPL notes: Savinho injury latest, Pep on Lewis + Haaland, Eze unlucky

LESS TIME BETWEEN MATCHES

With just over 8 days to go, this is where I'm at so far...

    Sels
    Muñoz Milenković Diouf
    Palmer Wirtz Rogers Rice Gakpo
    Haaland Watkins

    Dubravka Guiu Rodon Estève

Who do you think I should reconsider?

I'll bet he hits some double digit scores ... Szoboszlai but he looks to be too deep.

There's also Christian Nørgaard who could be value at £5.5m for anyone maxing budget elsewhere.

So here is the latest masterpiece I've cooked up:

    GK: Sanchez
    DEF: VVD, Porro, Konsa
MID: Salah (C), Palmer, Eze, Rogers, Anderson
    FOR: Watkins, JP

    BENCH: Dubravka, Reinildo, Lacroix, Guiu

Assuming Rogers is ok it just feels like a pretty solid and safe draft to get through the first 5 GWs. Thoughts and input always appreciated 🙂

Defence looks good but is Konsa nailed on?

I don't love Konsa as a pick, but he just feels so safe and I'm very risk adverse. I actually really want to find a way to get Kayode from Brentford in but I just can't figure it out and I'd rather wait and see and pivot to him after a few GWs if my suspicions that he will be a demon are correct 😛

I saw that he could be in the line-up it's just is he carrying the injury a bit and could come off earlier or it could hurt against newcastle and he misses GW2 or something stupid. It's not ideal

    Another draft....

    Sanchez (Dubravka)
Murillo, Konsa, Pedro Porro, (Dorgu, Rodon)
Rogers, Kudus, Palmer, Salah, Bruno F
    Watkins, Thiago (Guiu)

Bit concerned I have no City or Arsenal coverage....and although Bruno will play every minute of every game - will his points be diluted?

Sanchez could quite easily become Trafford also and still waiting on whether Thiago is a good pick.

    I also have Haaland FOMO.

The 4.5 defenders offer good options. I’m not expecting anything sensational but who wouldn’t want a cheapie with good prospects. Did a proper analysis & pts potential check for Trai Hume(Sun).

Honestly, I think he is going under the radar because he plays for a bottom side, however, he became a prominent force from dead ball situations when he was assigned to take the set-piece duty role at the latter stage of the EFL24/25 season if i’m not mistaken. It seems not many Sunderland fans here.

Similar to Holebas pick for gw 1 some seasons ago, where he just kept on getting points from setpiece(s) even though Watford were crap.

He's still going to need to pick up some cleans along the way. I think Bednarek was the top scoring promoted defender last season once they revised the points with a couple of goals and cleans but he still only hit 100 points which is not good for a 4.5 (he was 4.0 but the point applies to Hume). The fact is those defcon points are cancelled out for every 4 goals the team concedes, halved by every 2 goals conceded. The former might not happen too often hopefully for Sunderland but it will happen, the latter could happen a lot.

I had Hume as part of a 3-way rotation in my first draft but since I don’t plan to play him that often (perhaps twice in the first 10 games), I’m going for a 4.0 instead (it’s amazing how 0.5 comes in useful at the start of the season).

Or if I have the cojones to go without either Salah or Haaland, then money ain’t a concern.

      1. Tommy Template
        • 11 Years
        4 months, 1 day ago

That's fair enough. I'm not sure I could stomach 4.5 on any of the promoted sides when you can get known quantities at likely much better teams like Wan-B, Guehi, Konsa, Fulham bar Robinson etc.... what's not really been revealed anywhere I don't think, maybe it has I've tried to avoid the twittersphere in pre-season is how much impact the DC points would have actually had if you'd benefitted from them. In most instances for Bednarek who did well on defcon, it probably just took him back up to 0 points from negative. Cleans are still the bread and butter for defenders, they get absolutely destroyed on the bonus still for conceding goals, nice they've got some back for tackles won but its still not near the -4 for every single goal against. Tarko and the forest lads were mustard because they are good on defcon and they got loads of cleans. Murillo's points the season before even with defcon would have been crap because they only kept like 3 cleans.

Yes I'm benching Wilson this week and then possibly doing a BB next week as Sunderland play Burnley. Good shout with Truffert, will have a look and possibly Diouf.

Arsenal fan here so need to have one of them in my attack and Saka is expensive! Honestly Gyokeres could go either way, all depends on the service that he gets but an easy transfer out if he doesn't work.

Any suggestions here? Been with this for a while now:

    Kelleher (Dubravka)

Tark - Murillo - Rodon (Esteve, Hoever)

    Palmer - Bruno - Wirtz - Gakpo - Anderson

    Haaland - Watkins (Guiu)

The plan is to play Tark + Murillo and rotate the third DEF spot each week. Once crystal palace fixtures improve, Tark could become Muñoz.

          I agree

It improves all of their appeal

Agreed. He seems to have license to drift and get forward from the midfield.

This is easily the craziest transfer window I can remember since I started following football 30+ years ago. Most of the league could have new strikers in place by the time the window shuts if you think Isak, Wissa and potentially Watkins could still move.

The Athletic said as an 8. He'll take over Garner imo.

He can play anywhere in midfield which is just as well as they don't have loads of options in any of the positions really. Dibling also on the way potentially.

Is Wan-Bissaka nailed in West Hams defence? I quite fancy his attacking side shown last season.

Well. Thats concerns of Watkins joining Man Utd put to bed. They have signed Sesko.

Still leaves the issue of Isak to Liverpool and whether Newcastle would come after him

"Benjamin #Sesko has agreed to waive part of his salary — he could have earned more at Newcastle."

            This window is pure madness.

Something strange is going on at Newcastle. Champions League football and more money and he said no.

I don't understand why players don't want to sign for Newcastle they got champions league football twice in 3 years from the premier league. The team is very solid and great manager. The thing is they are still going to be good even though they can't get players in. I just hope they don't end up with Jackson i'd feel so bad
