MAN UTD: REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL

INCREASED FIREPOWER

FPL new signings: Does Mbeumo have less appeal at Man Utd? 4

Man Utd’s disastrous 2024/25 season ended with a 15th-placed domestic finish and defeat in the UEFA Europa League final.

In an attempt to improve matters, particularly the goals scored column, Bryan Mbeumo (£8.0m) and Matheus Cunha (£8.0m) were both signed earlier this summer, and now the club have agreed a deal with RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

Mbeumo and Cunha combined for 35 goals and 16 assists (Opta and Fantasy) in the Premier League last season.

They were admittedly two of the top expected goals (xG) overperformers, but they will certainly add something to United’s attack.

Bruno Fernandes (£9.0m), one of the Premier League’s top chance creators, is staying too.

NO EUROPEAN FOOTBALL

Ruben Amorim – Scout Report 1

United’s lack of European football in 2025/26 should help them in the Premier League.

Indeed, Ruben Amorim has already outlined the benefits of not playing in Europe by saying it will allow him to properly prepare his team each week.

It should hopefully lead to a more settled XI, as United look to bounce back.

“I have to say that for us not to be in the Champions League, could be an advantage to perform well, to perform better, to prepare better the games, to build that core we need for the future. So, I think it’s a good thing for us to take advantage.” – Ruben Amorim

MAN UTD: REASONS TO BE FEARFUL

2024-25 STRUGGLES / OLD TRAFFORD WOES

Man Utd v Brighton team news:

Last season was a total disaster for United.

They were beaten in 18 of their 38 Premier League matches, registered a negative goal difference (-10) and collected just 42 points, as they failed to adapt to Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation.

They were particularly poor at Old Trafford, with nine defeats in total.

Only the three relegated teams netted fewer home goals, too:

1m was for Bowen & Bruno if needed.

        KDH is another 5m mid.

Was unsure of Ait N & considering Williams or Milenkovic instead.

That looks very similar to the way I set my team out last season and I ended up using WC GW6 with a 396k rank to spread the funds, the big let downs were Carvahlo who hardly played, and the cheap D. Hope you have more luck than me.

Carvalho fitter after op and plenty of pre season minutes with returns. Also can now hold a place in a beleaguered Brentford side.

The Salah Haaland Palmer teams could be golden as long as they perform. I considered a just Palmer team, bottled it and went Palmer and Salah. All three is a gamble and i love it but not for me. But good luck.

I think so, great option at 5.0. More attacking than KDH. Plenty of minutes pre season and positions available at Brentford.

First post of the pre-season and would love to know thoughts on this no-Salah and no-Haaland draft. This is not built for bench boost but to have rotation through challenging fixtures for my non-premium players.

      Sanchez
      VVD, Gabriel, Milenkovic
      Palmer, Wirtz, Gakpo, Rogers
      Watkins, Bowen, J.Pedro

      Dubravka, Dorgu, Diouf, Ndiaye

I have been set on this for a while now, not made many major changes, what do people think? Watkins can easily be Gyokeres etc.

      Sels
VVD - Neco - Van De Ven
      Malen - Palmer - Bruno - Salah - Wirtz
      Muniz - Watkins

      Dubravka - Esteve - Dorgu - Guiu

      1. FPL Elephant
        • 8 Years

I decided Sanchez over Sels as didn’t want double Forest with some trickier fixtures in the mix.

Be aware that Malen might not get as many minutes as expected with Villa signing a new forward player today.

I wish we knew if Malen was going to start. Don't like Muniz or 5.5m price point up front, think a 7.5m is needed probably Pedro, I would downgrade Bruno to do it

You’re only building a BB team if you plan to WC soon after. If you build a BB team and then don’t WC for many weeks, a team not built for BB will likely outscore a team that is over that period of time.

For example, if it turns out no £4 million keeper will be starting, I’ll still pick a £4 million and sacrifice the few BB points to enable me to have a stronger squad during the other weeks

            Maresca fired a rotation warning:

"Not all of the players are going to be happy always. If they don’t play, they’re not happy.

‘But they have to understand that they are all good – 22, 23, 24 players – and they have to understand that there will be many rotations.”

Classic line after a good performance lol

Palmer at 10.5 with rotation risk worth it?

I have 12m in total for 1 mid and 1 for that need to be playable most weeks. Best combo?

            A. Evanilson and PSarr/Carvalho/5
            B. JSL and Anderson/Malen/Reijnders/5,5
            C. Thiago and Minteh/Damsgard/6
            D. Beto and Ndiaye/Mitoma/6,5
            E. Something else

              Least risky: B) with Anderson

I’d go with A) Evanilson and PSarr though

I’d go B with Malen also, see how Reijnders looks tomorrow though if it seems he’s gonna be in the starting team from GW1 could be great pick

If the striker is a 3rd striker then

Muniz + Malen + 1m left over to upgrade elsewhere
Muniz or Strand larsen + Carvalho 5m ( takes Mbuemos spot at Brentford) = 1.5m or .5m to upgrade elsewhere

Yeah Everton don’t inspire me to much but he’s probably a safe pick, Mitoma is the main one on the radar for first two games and re evaluate think Villas fixtures early on hard to ignore want Rogers I’m assuming he’s fit

He played well under Moyes, plays quite high up, and it’s likely to be on penalties. Admittedly, I think the GW1 fixture is possibly drawing a lot of us in!

See how villa line up the weekend. Ramsey or Malen could be good villa alternatives. Buendia has been decent preseason and could fill in for Rogers. Elsewhere Neto, Rice would be my choices

I am. I see Guessand as cover for Watkins given so many big teams are buying strikers.
His time is split between CF and RW but at least for the 1st 7 I see him on the bench.
Malens goals and assists numbers are of the charts before joining villa
                  as well as
                  4 x 45 minute apps in preseason - 2 goals and 4 assists
280mins in prem lge end of season - 3 goals
malen stats are bundesliga, different quality to Ligue 1

                Ballers and shot callers;

                Thought on this flexible draft?

                Kelleher
                Milenkovic, VVD, VDV
                (S)alah, Rogers, Palmer, Bruno, Anderson
                Watkins, Guiu

                Dubravka, Evanilson, Heaven, Esteve

                couple of things

                1) assume Rogers is fit, if not id still look to cover him with a 7m mid or less and keep ITB to bring him in
                2) Milenk abd VVD are set and forget rotating in the other 3rd spot.
                3) Guiu ay home is a gamble, but next week Evanilson will come in for WOL, tot, BHA, NEW and lee
                4) Bruno - definetly questions over team and position, but he has more avenues to points than any other player it seems - set and forget and armband in GW3
                5) Trying to limit transfers/need for hots as much as possible this season

                TIA

I don't dislike the Bruno pick, but feel like Wirtz might be a better option. But I won't die on that hill.

Would rather have Reinildon than Heaven.

Don't like Evanilson. Not for 7 mil.

I see Bruno as having a lot of routes to points. Wirtz could easily be dynamite I agree, also coukd take time to get up to pace.

                    Rodon or Leeds for Esteve.
Everton looked like a team in real trouble in the 3 summer series games v man U, BMouth & West Ham
Leeds have 6 good fixtures in 1st 9
Burnley have a really hard start
Burnley's expected goals conceded last season was 30. Leeds was 29
Watchedmy championship team play them last season and a bunch of other games. The 16 they conceded was fluke
