The talk around Cole Palmer‘s (£10.4m) troublesome groin rumbles on as we head towards Gameweek 6.

Palmer was forced off after 20 minutes of Chelsea’s defeat to Manchester United on Saturday, with Enzo Maresca saying that he was “not 100%” even ahead of kick-off.

PALMER: MONDAY’S LATEST

Maresca has been facing the media again this morning ahead of the Blues’ EFL Cup tie with Lincoln City. Cole Palmer (groin), naturally, was top of the agenda.

“Cole probably is the only one that we need to assess a little bit. The rest, they are okay, just recovering from the last week when we played three games in a row.

“He did already a huge effort on last Saturday to try to play the game. Again, he tried Saturday morning, he did the test, he was okay but not 100%. But he wants to be there to help teammates to be there in that kind of game. But unfortunately, then we had 10 players and also it was painful, so we decided to change it. And it’s more day by day, week by week, game by game to see how it is and decide what we do.” – Enzo Maresca

Palmer’s boss was then asked if surgery was an option.

“The medical staff, they didn’t mention to me about surgery until today. Now, I don’t know if in the next days or the next weeks, but I don’t think so, to be honest.” – Enzo Maresca on Cole Palmer

The above quotes could be interpreted as ‘surgery was discussed today’, of course. However, the consensus seems to be that Maresca meant that ‘it hasn’t been discussed at all up until this point’.

OTHER CHELSEA TEAM NEWS

Maresca didn’t have any other major concerns ahead of Tuesday’s game.

Moises Caicedo and Joao Pedro were mentioned as players with “small problems” but this sounded more like Maresca laying the groundwork for a complete midweek breather.

“We have some players with small problems from already a long time, like Moi [Caicedo], like Joao [Pedro], that they are trying to manage a little bit themselves. But then the rest, they are okay.” – Enzo Maresca

Benoit Badiashile and Romeo Lavia (both match fitness) have returned to training and their manager is hopeful “they can be available very soon” but this game comes too soon for that duo.

Levi Colwill (knee), Dario Essugo (thigh), Liam Delap (hamstring) and Mykhailo Mudryk (suspended) are also out.

So too are Robert Sanchez and Marc Guiu. The former is suspended for one domestic game after his red card on Saturday, while the latter is cup-tied.

Both will be available in Gameweek 6.

I wouldn't BB with 2 of your BUR defenders playing MCI

I would play Porro and Gakpo ahead of VdV and Enzo

I have Sels (also a terrible pick) and Dubravka here.
I've already sat Sels once GW2 for Dub and was rewarded with 6 points.
I think you have to look at Dubravka being a viable option, but yuck that is a tough choice.

Slightly leaning to Verbruggen (Palmer out, Pedro has "small problem")
      BUT
With so many pulling the TC on Haaland this week, I can see the Dingles stepping up to piss off so many...
      AND
Now that I've spent far too much time on it, I bet they both get 1 point 🙂

If Gakpo selling price for me is 7.6 and he drops in price from 7.7 to 7.6, does my selling price go to 7.5 or stay the same?

      • Gommy

One missing piece of information here is your buying price.

If it was 7.5, then a drop from 7.7 > 7.6 means your selling price drops back to 7.5

If your buying price was 7.6 then a drop from 7.7 > 7.6 means your selling price wouldn’t have changed anyway.

As an Italian, I would like to point out the meaning of Maresca's words on Cole's hypothetical need of a surgery. He clearly meant to say "as of today", and not "until today", which is indeed an instinctive and typical translation to English of the italian expression "a tutt'oggi", or "fino a oggi". He definitely meant no one of the medical staff has ever talked to him about the needing of a surgery. Just my 2 cents.

Agree. Also he said basically he took him off due to game management, and because he knew he was not 100%. Makes sense to me, as leaving him on vs 11 men means he would have had to work harder, and more likely to worsen the injury. I think he will play in the next prem game.

Good to know thanks. I'm not Italian but I watched the presser and I didn't even consider that it could be interpreted as "surgery was discussed today", was very clear to me what he meant.

Have similar bench with those three. In fact have scraped the barrel a little further - 4.4 mid, 2x4 defenders and Dub. The 4.4 enables me (just) to bring in Saka, Palmer and Isak in one move, if want to do that. But probably overkill.

Did Wirtz, Watkins & Mateta to Anderson, Richarlison & Haaland for -4 before price rises. Took the hit instead of WC:in because I wanted to get Haaland, but also keep Salah and the wildcard and potentially use TC this week. Will WC and cancel the hit if things change.

Is anybody else here thinking of triple captaining Haaland vs Burnley?

              Looks like

He's down that end of the pitch for assists etc

He does look a bit greedy with his shooting

If he comes off early and banks a clean sheet, all good.

The fact that we don’t know this yet shows that it’s too early to WC

WC played in GW5 as I had too many issues. Planning to move for some Arsenal in GW7.

Many apologies for the dumb question. This season, I still keep my FTs after I WC, right?

              There was mention of it...

It takes time to sort and the person who used to do so has left and the new person who needs to get up to speed is also busy.

              So I don't know.

Wasn't it run on the FPL site? That would seem to be the simple solution. Maybe it was open to manipulation that way?

Early signs are he doesn't fit Ange's style of play. Their new signings Jesus & Kalimuendo are better options that suit his playstyle.

Is Foden a good option on WC or too punty?

            Can get Ndiaye/Grelaish instead.

I'm looking to do Watkins + Salah > Haaland + MF for -4?

              Should I go for:

              A) Saka
              B) Bruno

              Rest of my team:

              Vicario (Dubravka)
              Virgil Mickey Nilliams
              Semenyo Reijnders Grealish Xavi Bruno
              Haaland JP

              Subs: Woltemade Gudmundsson Esteve

              Thanks!
