The October international break began in earnest today, with some FIFA World Cup qualifiers taking place in Africa.

A significant number of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players will be representing their countries over the coming week, so there’ll be a nervous wait to see if any new Fantasy flags are added ahead of Gameweek 8.

From every call-up to potential late returnees, this article provides you with all the information you need to know.

ANY LATE RETURNEES?

FPL Gameweek 4 Free Hit: Pros, cons + best team

Some relatively good news for players from some countries to start off with.

Normally, players from the Americas are the last ones back through the door at their respective clubs, raising concerns about their minutes for the upcoming Gameweek.

Typically, these countries have matches in the early hours of the Wednesday morning before the Premier League resumes.

However, this time it’s a little bit different.

Brazil are in Asia instead of South America, with the last of their two friendlies getting underway at 11.30am next Tuesday. That’s a good 12+ hours before they’d usually be playing.

The same goes for Uruguay (two friendlies in Malaysia, the last on Monday afternoon) and Paraguay (two friendlies in Asia, the last at midday on Tuesday).

Even Chris Wood‘s (£7.4m) New Zealand are playing two friendlies in Europe.

And of the nations who are still in the dreaded early Wednesday morning slot, Ecuador and Mexico haven’t called up their usual Premier League players.

That leaves only the following names:

CountryPlayersLast match kicking off in/at…
ArgentinaMartinez (AVL), Senesi (BOU), Fernandez (CHE), Benitez (CRY), Mac Allister (LIV), Romero (TOT)USA (Tues 14 Oct/Wed 15 Oct, TBC)
Trinidad & TobagoCardines (CRY)Curacao (Wed 15 Oct, 12am)
JamaicaPinnock (BRE)Jamaica (Wed 15 Oct, 1am)
ColombiaMunoz (CRY), Lerma (CRY), Mosquera (WOL)USA (Wed 15 Oct, 1am)
USARichards (CRY), Robinson (FUL), Aaronson (LEE)USA (Wed 15 Oct, 2am)

Argentina had originally been scheduled to play at midnight on Monday night/Tuesday morning (UK time) but that fixture has reportedly now been moved 24 hours back and to a different venue, in a bit of a blow to the likes of Enzo Fernandez (£6.7m), Marcos Senesi (£5.0m) and Cristian Romero (£5.1m). The rescheduling has yet to be officially confirmed, at the time of writing.

NOTABLE OMISSIONS

Best £7.5m+ forwards for FPL 2025/26

In addition to the sidelined players who are detailed later in this article, there are some welcome rests for a few key FPL assets over this international fortnight.

Below are the most-owned FPL outfield players (3.0%+) who were omitted from their national team’s squads but not because they were unavailable.

Joao Pedro (£7.7m) and Moises Caicedo (£5.8m) have been playing through niggles of late but both started in Gameweek 7, which preceded the break.

Bench one of these, I’m leaning towards Reijnders as I fancy DCL against Burnley. (DCL was on my WC for BB in GW9 fyi)

Yes it says "Vs Burnley" but should also say "at home"
Burnley have conceded 13 goals in 4 away matches, and 2 goals in 3 home matches. I think Benedict was right to question playing DCL at Burnley considering he has only returned in 1 game this season and has looked awful at times.
Of the 3 players to choose from, DCL is the obvious bench candidate.

I’ve watched Leeds last 3 games (pretty much just to see how Dom is getting on). I’ve always been a fan. He’s clearly one of Leeds best players, and has looked far from awful.

He’s not an obvious fpl pick as a starter, but since squad value seems less of an issue again this season, having a 5.5 (ish) forward first or second on the bench doesn’t seem like a crazy idea, and he is worth considering in that bracket.

Did Chelsea sign Buonanotte because they knew how bad Palmer's injury might be? seemed an odd signing to do at the time but might make more sense now

We were also in for Xavi to play in that position, which didn't pan out, so I doubt it's just for that - more to have a little extra cover for the position on general. A market opportunity, too.

I don't think he was expected to play a massive part as he wasn't even originally included in the Champions League squad.

I would not take a hit to transfer in JP but I guess the hit is for Saka.

          I do think there's a good chance Bruno/Watkins outscore Saka/JP this GW

i think this would be my perfect wc just now 🙂

          pope (dub)
          gabriel timber richards (truffert alderete)
          saka semenyo enzo sarr (xhaka)
          haaland wolte bowen

0.9 itb (could upgrade richards/truffert to chalobah)

shame I wced last week and went gyo instead of dble arsenal defence....might change this in a couple of gws with 2 fts

                Pedro Cucu +

                1. Chalobah for BB 9

I have both and Chalobah has been the most consistent and has many roads to points. Enzo tends to run a bit hot and cold but I'm keeping him because his fixtures lighten up after the IB. It's tough to pick just one, but I'd probably lean towards Chalobah.

I'd say GW8 looks better, but it's also right after the int'l break, so some of your starters might get rested. GW9 still has decent fixtures.

Wait...shouldn't Andersen play Arsenal in GW8?

                This article is inaccurate.

Argentina’s match has been moved to Miami and rescheduled a day later to October 14th.

This means Enzo Fernandez won’t finish playing until the early hours of October 15th.

You're not wrong but cut them some slack with that tone.

That news came out (in reputable English sources) after the article was published.

GW9 Bench: Dubravka (wol), Rodon (WHU), Stach (WHU), Mukiele (che)
