Captain Sensible

After Erling Haaland (£14.5m) scored for the fifth consecutive Premier League match in a row against Brentford and bagged yet another Norway hat-trick over the international break, the Gameweek 8 captaincy decision will once again be straightforward for the majority.

But in Captain Sensible, we wouldn’t be doing our jobs if we didn’t ask if there was a case to look beyond the Norwegian this week.

First, we will assess the on-site captaincy poll. We will then analyse player and team statisticsRate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Saturday’s 11am BST deadline.

Captaincy Poll

Best captain Gameweek 8

As expected, Haaland’s stunning early-season form sees him top the Fantasy Football Scout captaincy poll yet again. Among site users, the Norwegian is the runaway leader in the poll, currently sitting on over 62% of the popular vote.

For the second week running, Antoine Semenyo (£7.9m) occupies a distant second place, with a little over 7% of the vote. The Ghanaian international outscored Haaland in Gameweek 17, scoring twice and assisting against Fulham.

Chelsea duo Joao Pedro (£7.7m) and Enzo Fernandez (£6.7m) complete the top four ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Nottingham Forest at lunchtime on Saturday. Nick Woltemade (£7.2m) is the only other player to pick up more than 5% backing.

Bruno to Saka worth a FT?

Do I need to sell Richarlison too? His benching last time out was a blow.

    3FT 3.2ITB
    Raya
    Gabriel Romero Senesi Rodon
    Bruno Semenyo Reijnders
    Haaland Pedro Richarlison

    Dubravka Stach Ndiaye Tarkowski

    Cheers

I think Richarlison is a sell

To Wolt or Mateta or Bowen

I'd also rather have Saka than Bruno.

Thanks. I'm coming round to Wolt. 50/50 call with Bowen.

Saka feels like a good move short and long term.

    Best option with squad below

    A) Bench boost as is

    B) Alderete >> Mukiele / Rodin and Bench boost

    C) save BB and use on later GW

    Pope • Dubravka
    Richards • Senesi • Gabriel • Andersen • Alderete*
    Semenyo • Saka • Sarr • Gordon • Enzo*
    Haaland • DCL • Gyokeres

50/50. Bowen more proven FPL asset but Woltemade has the fixtures, plays for a better team. Could he have pens? Or ar they Gordon's?

      1. Malkmus
        • 14 Years

I would say the next 5/6 fixtures are better for Bowen personally, and he would be my pick. But there's not much between them.

I think you're right actually, particularly for the immediate fixtures. Newcastle have a good long-term run but West Ham being home 3 out of next 4 appeals.

    2. Pariße
      • 10 Years

Opted for Woltemade personally after some contemplation last night.

Similar for shots per game, both overperforming their xG, Woltemade by 0.5, and Bowen by 2, which is a lot. It means both are good finishers, Bowen even exceptional, but it also means that his opportunities are scarce - it’s a small sample of course. Mateta is an interesting one as well, slightly underperformed so far but has most shots and should easily find himself on the scoresheet soon.

I think Bowen has more chance to haul, but it’s West Ham.

Woltemade looks to me like his ceiling is only ever going to be 9 points. This is what’s putting me off him, although Newcastle are by far the better team!

Got a real benching headache this gw (no bench boost)

    Sanchez
    Gabriel/Alderete/Burn
    Saka/Semenyo/Anthony/Stach
    Haaland/Isak/Gyokeres

    Dubravka/Reijnders/Lacroix/Senesi

Would you swap in any of the bench players …Anthony/Alderete/Stach probably have the ideal fixtures to play them in and Bournemouth v Palace tricky to predict (but could easily be 0-0)

    Sounds like Senesi is fine.

    BB on.

BOURNEMOUTH | David Brooks has picked up a hamstring injury and joins Enes Unal on the sidelines.

Julio Soler remains with his national team for the Under-20 World Cup.

Marcos Senesi was among five players returning late from their national teams. The defender trained on Thursday and will do so again today, with Iraola hopeful his midweek exertions won’t be a factor in GW8.

Adam Smith has trained and could be involved.
