Two more Saturday matches to look back on now as we reflect on Nottingham Forest 1-2 Manchester City and West Ham United 0-1 Fulham, with the performance of Rayan Cherki (£6.6m) one of the key discussion points.

CHERKI STARS

Manchester City weren’t at their fluent best on Saturday, but they got the job done at Nottingham Forest, with Cherki playing a crucial role.

The Frenchman provided the assist for Tijjani Reijnders’ (£5.2m) opener, and later, scored the winner with a drilled low finish.

He also had a shot tipped onto the post.

Cherki, who leads the way in the Premier League for minutes per chance created this season (25), has now produced nine attacking returns (one goal, eight assists) since the start of November, the joint-most of any player except Erling Haaland (£15.1m).

“There are moments that I just want to shout at him and there are moments I want to kiss him.

“I have to allow him to express his incredible talent.” – Pep Guardiola on Rayan Cherki

Reijnders, meanwhile, found the net for the visitors and has now scored three goals in his last five matches, which notably included four starts.

The Dutchman got far more joy in the second half on Saturday, as Pep Guardiola pushed him further up the pitch, freeing him up to make dangerous runs beyond Haaland.

Above: Manchester City’s second-half passing network v Nottingham Forest

There were blanks for Phil Foden (£9.0m) and Haaland, however.

Foden did at least rack up five shots, with John Victor (£4.0m) pulling off a fine save to deny him.

As for Haaland, he was much quieter and struggled to find space against the impressive Nikola Milenkovic (£5.1m) and Murillo (£5.2m).

“ALL-ROUNDER” JESUS

Despite the loss, Forest consistently posed a threat at the City Ground, with Saturday’s performance further proof that they are moving in the right direction under Sean Dyche.

Igor Jesus (£5.8m) was particularly impressive, with his ability to hold the ball up and win duels frequently unsettling Pep’s backline.

The Brazilian assisted Omari Hutchinson (£5.4m) for his first Forest goal, and with Chris Wood (£7.2m) undergoing knee surgery, now has a real opportunity to kick on.

Jesus has racked up 28 shots in the box since the start of November, the most of any player except Haaland.

“He is doing well. He is learning about the game. He is strong. He plays hard, but he plays fair. The next step is to get more goals, but he is in there and he is hungry to get goals. He is certainly showing what a good all-rounder he is. Now it is just adding goals, which is not as easy as it sounds. But he has scored goals this season and I think he will score more because he does get in the right areas. He has had a couple chalked off, don’t forget – the one at Liverpool, everyone is still scratching their heads at how that was chalked off. It was similar but different at Wolves, so he could have had another couple.

“He is learning well and developing well. I am enjoying what he is doing. If he can be a handful for defenders, then why not? He is a strong lad, I know that, and he can hold the ball up well. He plays competitively but fair. He is still new to it and has got to learn still. Woody is different; he has got the depth of experience, the goals and the knowledge of the Premier League. Igor is doing very well to fast-track that and is doing a good job of it.” – Sean Dyche on Igor Jesus

In other news, Elliot Anderson (£5.3m) banked defensive contribution (DefCon) points once more, although he did receive a yellow card.

He’s now on four bookings for the season but only needs to get through Tuesday’s match against Everton before the cut-off resets.

£4.0M ‘KEEPER STARTS AGAIN

Dyche kept faith with John Victor in goal on Saturday, with Matz Sels (£4.6m) once again named among the substitutes.

The Forest boss had previously explained that a lack of training for Sels, plus Victor’s clean sheet in Gameweek 16, were reasons for his benching at Fulham.

But the £4.0m shot-stopper didn’t do much wrong on Monday and subsequently kept his place here, making some fine saves in the process.

Unfortunately, Dyche’s post-match interviews primarily focused on refereeing decisions rather than the current goalkeeper situation, leaving owners uncertain about if and when Sels will return to the starting XI.

JIMENEZ PRAISE, ROBINSON IMPRESSES

Fulham have now won six of their last nine league matches, with Saturday’s 1-0 win over West Ham propelling them into the top half of the table.

In a match of few clear-cut opportunities, Raul Jimenez (£6.3m) grabbed the late winner, heading the ball into the net from Harry Wilson’s (£5.8m) cross.

Wilson, having recovered from injury, played the entire 90 minutes but did receive his fourth yellow card of the campaign.

Jimenez racked up five shots in Gameweek 18, earning further praise from his manager.

“It’s what he’s capable of, he showed again he gives everything for the shirt, his work ethic is unbelievable for a player his age and what he can offer the team. He needs goals to be more confident. He deserves the credit, he has been working very hard.” – Marco Silva on Raul Jimenez

Saturday’s result was largely achieved thanks to Fulham’s defensive efforts, however.

The Cottagers have now kept back-to-back clean sheets, with the fit-again Antonee Robinson (£4.9m) superb.

Pushing high up the left flank, he created four chances for his teammates and only narrowly missed out on DefCon.

As for West Ham, this was another below-par display, with Jarrod Bowen (£7.6m) and substitute Callum Wilson (£5.8m) both missing decent chances.

They remain in the relegation zone but do at least have some decent fixtures to come, with Brighton and Hove Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers up next.

Can Gabriel wait a bit? Villa will score against Arsenal.

    Hincapie + Semenyo -> Alderete + Palmer(C) -4?
I've got just enough money for this. That would leave me with:

    Dubravka
    Chalobah O'Reilly Keane
    Palmer(C) Saka Foden Cunha Rice
    Haaland Ekitike

    Petrovic Richards* Alderete Guiu

You have hincapie and semenyo too. Same.

And thinking about playing BB to get it out of the way probably?

After all, I don’t like your team for long term. Do you?
I guess I want kdh when he is fit. Cheap enabler to help build a BB team

Do you not like my current team long term or my planned WC team?

      yeah sadly feel the same

although i checked back the other day. Since GW2 ive only had CBs (who should carry goal threat) and since like GW8 i think, i've been playing 4 back each week. only had 1 goal lol. a few assists but from like 60 appearances only 1 goal feels abit crap. but even then its been very good, dc points are just too strong. even when munoz was going on his run it didnt feel that bad not owning.

i would rather next season defenders only get 1 point for reaching defcon threshold to encourage more variety. or like you say they have to jack up the prices big time of centre backs

Points inflation but as you say the pricing didn't take that into account.

        8 chips + 5 FT top up.

        It's inflation all-round.

Dorgu potentially great punt for next 3. Keep in mind he is on 4 yellows. Don't see the appeal of Shaw. If you think Dorgu is too risky/short term, Dalot is a reasonable alternative.

I see gordon in some teams specially FH ones, I answer to all of you, he is a risk
    Plus woltemade (wissa)
Gordon played 90 minutes this game and it’s the busy time of the year
    Barnes is fit and ready
Elanga will be fit too, soon

Gordon isn’t the kind of player who needs his minutes managed for injury/energy reasons. Normally he comes off or rotates due to form/performance only and he’s playing well. Howe even said he was their best attacking player against United

Need to sell one of these this week:

    A. Senesi (4.7m)
    B. Andersen (4.5m)

In terms of how well they rotate with my team it’s pretty much the same.

Which would you rather have as a long term hold who would typically be a first bench option only?

      All rough
28 points, my second lowest GW score and worst GW rank of the season (11.862m).
Left Dubravka's 11-point haul on the bench.
Eighth successive captain failure of four points or less, five of them captaining Haaland and three captaining others.
Plummeted from 716k in GW10 to 2.256m now.
I was 423k after Gameweek 7 after starting with 6 green arrows, but it's been all downhill since then (apart from green arrows in Gameweeks 10, 12 and 15).

      Anyone had a worse Gameweek?

Thanks. Although I spend a lot of time on it, I've learnt not to get too upset when it's not going very well.
I realised some time ago that I'm unlikely to ever finish in the top 1k, which was an early ambition when I started playing, but I still enjoy making plans and seeing how they turn out.
It would be nice to improve on my recent seasons' results though.

Rough: This gw was pretty decent for me: Rough was playing Leno over Dub & Haaland blanking.

Smooth: DCL, dbl Fulham defence, Gvardiol and a few other 4 & 5s

Sold Petrovic for a hit to buy Pickford and bench Dubravka
Pickford and Dubravka play each other and both get a clean sheet
But Dubravka made 6 saves and secured 3 bonus, so I ended up losing 9 points from the move
This is Dubravka who only had 2 clean sheets and 2 bonus points before this week
Along with an xGC of over 2 per game and an average of 3.5 saves per game
You know, Dubravka. Yeah, it's Everton, but come on, it's Burnley! And Pickford!

I also sold Thiago (5pt) for Bowen (2pt)
And Fernandes (5pts from my 1st sub) for Rogers (1pt)
Arguably a total loss of 16points from one week's transfers

Other than that, it was an okay week. Unfortunately, my wish that my TC, Ekitike, didn't show up didn't materialise, as I'd dreamt of my VTC, Tarkowski, raking in the points. https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/27475562 As it happens, Tarkowski got CS and DC points, outscoring Ekitike by 3, which could have been an extra 6 for me had I the guts to bypass Ekitike with the armband ---A no-show from Ekitike would have brought Andersen's 5 points onto the field too to cover the loss of Ekitike's 5 points. All hypothetical waffle.

In the end, 19 points on the bench, but 51 on the field in a low-scoring week still means a green arrow after my hit, hoisting me from 3,091,902 to 3,036,732!

I IMMEDIATELY regretted the Bowen purchase (/the Thiago sale)
The silver lining is that perhaps some managers will avoid the players I bought now (though this lining's silveriness relies on them doing well in the future, so hardly much to distract from the dark, dark clouds overhead right now)

Rough: everything. 7 blanks; 4 returns--3 assists and a clean sheet; 4 yc; the Robot (c); Dubravka's 11 pts. sitting on bench.

Smooth: Richards didn't play, so Andersen's 5 pts came off the bench. That's about it.

37 pts. total; OR dropped from 29k to 51k

      We go again on Tuesday!

I'm having a FHing head ache, because I'm using the chip just because I don't want it to go to waste. It feels stupid to play a lot of the players I have anyway, but it also feels stupid to swap players just because I'm on a FH, so I'm having some weird mix of both now.

    What do you think?

    Lammens
    Timber - Dorgu - Chalobah
    Palmer - Foden - Cunha - Gakpo
    Woltemade - DCL - Haaland

Raya (yeah, I'm thinking of benching him cause I don't think Arsenal will have CS) Lacroix - Thiaw - 4.5M

    Some stray thoughts:
I think Arsenal - Aston Villa will be like 1-1 so I don't really want to spend money on them
Palmer is a complete punt that I fully expect to fail but what the hell
I originally had drafted in Woltemade - Gordon - Barnes from Newcastle, but Newcastle feels like a trap

I'd take 3 punts on a FH, other than that don't feel compelled to make changes it's a bit of a luxury chip the first FH.

If Semenyo starts he could score at the Bridge.

I agree about Semenyo, but I have him in my actual team, and I feel that I've been so lucky with the three goals now that if I'll include him now he's not gonna score. Yes, this is how I sometimes make decisions 🙂

    Hey guys, on WC.

Short term fixtures aren’t really aligning with a WC so who would you have on your team for sure? (Except Haaland, Saka, Ekitike obviously)

    3- Gabriel
    4- Anyone else

    Thanks!

1 or Saka unless you are stacked with £££

Cunha for the fixture play, he can always become Bruno when available.

Thanks man. I’m really not stacked with ££ and if I keep Foden and Saka, I need to decide between Cold and Wirtz. And Wirtz seems to have just found his rhythm.

I have hard time trusting Cunha lol. And there is still Rogers to consider.
