Our first ‘double’ of the season is set for Gameweek 26.

Gameweek 26 will now either feature:

  • Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers playing twice, with the other 18 teams playing once
    **OR**
  • Chelsea and Everton playing twice, with the other 18 teams playing once

Whichever pair of teams ‘double’ in Gameweek 26 will also blank in Gameweek 31.

WHY IS THERE A DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 26 + BLANK GAMEWEEK 31?

FPL Blank/Double Gameweeks: How the FA Cup + EFL Cup will have a say 1

The EFL Cup final clashes with Gameweek 31 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

So, whoever makes it to Wembley will have their Gameweek 31 league fixture postponed.

Here’s how the EFL Cup semi-finals look after the first legs:

  • Manchester City 2-0 Newcastle United
  • Arsenal 3-2 Chelsea

Whoever wins in the Arsenal v Chelsea tie will have their Gameweek 31 fixture moved to the midweek after Gameweek 26. They’ll blank in the former and double in the latter.

As per the Premier League statement:

WHEN WILL WE KNOW FOR SURE WHO DOUBLES?

FPL notes: Palmer + James injury updates, Rosenior backs Sanchez

We will know for sure who doubles on the evening of Tuesday 3 February. That’s in between Gameweeks 24 and 25.

That is when Arsenal host Chelsea in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final. Most bookies give the Gunners somewhere in the region of 85%-90% chance of progression, due to their first-leg lead.

WHY CAN’T MAN CITY OR NEWCASTLE DOUBLE IN GAMEWEEK 26?

FPL notes: Semenyo goal, Haaland "" + BGW31

Whoever progresses out of Manchester City and Newcastle United in the other semi-final will also have their Gameweek 31 league fixture postponed.

However, neither of their outstanding league matches would be able to fall in Gameweek 26 (or 27).

Newcastle themselves are playing a two-legged Champions League play-off on either side of Gameweek 26.

Man City are free – but their scheduled Gameweek 31 opponents Crystal Palace aren’t. The Eagles have to contest a European play-off on either side of Gameweek 26, too:

Five Premier League teams avoid UCL play-offs - but Newcastle face two extra games 5

Above image from Legomane

Whichever of Newcastle v Sunderland or Man City v Palace is postponed in Gameweek 31 (very likely the latter) probably then moves to Gameweek 33.

WHO WILL ARSENAL + WOLVES FACE IF THEY DOUBLE IN GAMEWEEK 26?

It’s a decent provisional double-header for the Gunners, albeit both matches are away games. Brentford have been in strong form on home soil, too.

Both Arsenal and Wolves have an FA Cup fourth-round tie to contest in between their Double Gameweek 26 fixtures, if it happens. Arsenal play Wigan Athletic and Wolves face Grimsby Town, so there is a good chance of second-stringers being sent out to play in those cup ties.

WHO WILL CHELSEA + EVERTON FACE IF THEY DOUBLE IN GAMEWEEK 26?

Chelsea’s provisional double-header is arguably the best of the four.

The Blues also have an FA Cup fourth-round tie to contest in between the above two possible fixtures, away at Hull City.

Everton are out of the cup, so wouldn’t have any mid-Gameweek distractions.

Benching Ekitike for Mukiele. Anyone who want to capitalise on this reality fabric altering even should captain Ekitike.

I honestly think DC made strikers completely mis priced. They arent worth it at all. 4-5-1 is the answer.

I agree with this tbh. Was all set to sell him for Watkins but a little hesitant now after his goal, assist & 67 mins last night. Think it's all set for a decent performance at Anfield on Sat night.

As per Slot's comments, hes set for at most another 67 minutes at Newcastle. And its not as if Newcastle is a plum fixture.

Every outfield player I have has a better points total and better fixtures than Ekitike.

Fair enough, sounds like you've given it careful consideration, good luck ! Do you have a link to Slot comments saying he will get a max of 67 mins please I missed that !!

:p paraphrased of course. But he has been saying "hes my only striker and I have to manage his minutes. He cant play several games a week". The mid week minutes are a negative for me. If Slot was hoping to give him 90 against Newcastle, he would have started on the bench against Qarabag.

Convinced myself to sell Keane for Senesi - love the defcon and lack of rotation. But just saw that there's vague rumours he could get sold after the gw deadline. What are the chances of that?

Or do I just go Guehi or another defender?

  8. Cloudvalley
      8 days, 4 hours ago

Who to bench, losing my mind. Considering benching Timber. Elland Road is tough and recently Arsenals defence is not as solid as it was.
Brain says Senesi, heart says Arsenal.

      Verbruggen
      Gabriel, Timber, Chalobah
      Enzo, Mbeumo, BrunoF, Rogers, Rice
      Haaland Thiago
      (Dubravka, Senesi, Kroupi, Dorgu)

      Bench:
      A) Senesi (wol) - DefCon + possible CS + possible attacking return.
      B) Thiago (avl) - high XGI, pens. Tough fixture, bad recent form.
      C) Timber (lee) - Elland Road + possible "injury" + possible attacking return.
      D) Rice (lee) - Elland road + possible attacking return, rested.

Tough one. I'm benching B, but I am crap at this game.

I think I'd only go with one defender at Elland Road in your case.

If Chelsea somehow beat Arsenal, it's a WC GW 26 for me, else I'll prioritize getting Rice in.

      Sanchez, Dubravka;

      Haaland, Joao Pedro, Mane.

Would love Chelsea to overturn the deficit in the 2nd leg, not from a point of being pro one and anti the other, but there'd be a lot more variance in the teams we'd put out if Chelsea & Everton were doubling.
Most engaged managers will be tripled up on Arsenal, and likely won't be touching Wolves with a bargepole given it'd be an extra transfer in and another one out before 31.

However, I've only got the double Arse (Gab-Rice) set-up, with no easy way to get up to Timber without hits, which seems pointless.
Therefore, any thoughts on the best 3rd option please, assuming the result goes as expected:-

      1. VDB > Calafiori
      2. Cunha > Trossard (only 2 attacking returns behind Saka & Rice for the season)
      3. Ekitike > Jesus (would have sold for Evanilson/JP anyway, so one extra transfer in 27)
      4. Pickford > Raya (doesn't impact GW31)
      5. Just stick with the double up & save the transfer

      Thank you

Think any other attacker apart from Rice and Saka would be a bit risky with Havertz, Martinelli, Trossard, Eze, Jesus and Gyokeres all competing for spots (and not impressing). Also Madueke but he’s likely to eat into Saka mins

It'll be a non-event of a double gameweek if Arsenal make the final. Everybody and their dog will have the same 3 maybe 1 different. Nobody is touching Wolves unless they already have the son of Sadio and I wouldn't be expecting much from their fixtures for attack anyway

Wildcarders could go for Sa and Mane

It's still triple Arsenal over two games

And most of the rest of the ranks won't necessarily have 3.

Otherwise the template as presented on here wouldn't have lost ground in the last 2 Gws.

Look at Haaland's ownership, despite the benching leak most didn't charge captain etc with 9 mins to deadline laat time out.

Yeah I'm planning to maybe do Kroupi to Mane for the DW, and already have Gabi/Saka. Will get Rice.

Most people have at least two Arsenal definitely.

Chelsea beating Arsenal to Wembley could spice it up tho.

Keep hearing that Palmer won't get surgery because of the World Cup. Why even taken a half fit Palmer to America? So he can shuffle around in the 30 degree heat, then limp off injured after 55 minutes.

In fairness I think they expected it to heal a long time ago, and now its a real dilema, just rumours of course

No need to take him really we've got ample coverage in that kind of position from players fitter and in better form

I wouldn't do a -4 personally as he might be rotated with Arsenal coming up. Just play Tark or Alderete.

Ye that is the worry, would you play Tark/Alderete over Mane?

Tark as you already have Roefs. I'm playing Tark, as a minimum you'll get defcon lol.

Do we think Bruno G starts at the weekend ? Thought it was a bit odd he didn't get any minutes last night if he was supposed to be fit ?

Rogers rested then, with Villa second in the Europa league standings.

        Hopefully he stays benched.

Play Reinaldo and save FT or bring him Maguire/Hill and play them?
