Marouane Fellaini torments United from start to finish and hands Everton the three points after heading home from a corner. The Toffees continue the strong home form displayed at the end of last season, while United’s two new boys produce contrasting performances as Sir Alex Ferguson’s side get off to a losing start:

Marouane Fellaini
Tucking in behind Nikica Jelavic in David Moyes’ trusted 4-5-1 formation, the Belgian’s aerial ability proved the undoing of United time and again. With Everton targeting the visitors full-backs with long, diagonal balls, Fellaini continually put Sir Alex Ferguson’s side under pressure and grabbed the only goal of the game as Everton pulled off the first shock of the season. As to whether he will continue to play as far more is perhaps debatable – Kevin Mirallas wasn’t registered in time for the game and is also versatile enough to play fill the position but at 6.5 in FPL and 6.1 in the Sky Sports game, Fellaini is sure to see plenty investment before the weekend’s trip to Villa.

Everton Defence
Perhaps last night’s result wasn’t quite as shocking as the media suggest. Everton closed out last season with six clean sheets in their last eight at Goodison and their defensive resilience was at the fore once again last night with an intelligent, well-drilled display ensuring they kicked off the season with a victory. Tony Hibbert and Sylvain Distin come in at 5.5 in FPL and if the Toffees maintain their superb form at the back in front of their supporters, the duo look decent value. With only two home matches in the next seven Gameweeks, though, many will overlook Moyes’ defenders, bearing in mind that Swansea and Spurs play at home five times over the same period.

David De Gea
The Spaniard produced a strong performance between the sticks to surely cement his place as United’s number one. Priced at 6.0 in FPL, De Gea certainly looks firmly in the driving seat ahead of Anders Lindegaard, with his 14.2% ownership on the rise on the back of last night’s heroics.

Shinji Kagawa
Handed the role in “the hole” behind Wayne Rooney with Danny Welbeck and Nani on the flanks, the summer signing looked a class apart but – in a similar story to that of Santi Cazorla on Saturday – failed to produce the points on his debut. What was noticeable is that Kagawa was handed 90 minutes – perhaps a sign of his manager’s faith, with Welbeck, Nani and Tom Cleverley the men to make way when Ferguson sent on the subs. At 8.5, he’s the lowest priced of United attacking midfielders and, with Antonio Valencia featuring at right-back last night, Kagawa looks a promising Fantasy prospect with (FUL, sot, WIG) to follow despite last night’s frustrating blank.

Robin Van Persie
Handed a substitute role midway through the second-half after Ferguson chose to field Wayne Rooney as a lone striker, the Dutchman had an anonymous debut. The Fantasy conundrum between the pair was, if anything, exacerbated by last night’s viewing – United maintained the 4-2-3-1 formation upon Van Persie’s arrival, with the two forwards both taking it in turns to drop deeper and drift out wide as the visitors chased the game. Intriguingly, Van Persie was immediately handed corners from the right hand side – Nani retained the left side, though Rooney took over after the Portuguese man was withdrawn. With the above-mentioned three games to follow, many will still be ready to gamble ahead of the weekend – let’s hope Ferguson’s Friday morning press conference is a little more revealing than usual. Post-match, the United boss was a little critical of his other players, suggesting he expects better service for the Dutchman in order for United to prosper:

We were a wee bit disappointing in terms of finishing off the approach play we had. We played around him (Van Persie) too much, we didn’t show enough penetration. With Robin in your team you know you want to use his ability against centre-backs in situations he is very good at – but we didn’t use him enough.

No doubt Kagawa is a great mind, but im having doubts will he be a good fpl asset. Unlike Kagawa, Cazorla looked like he stayed in the central position. Im pondering between these two for next gw. Ideas?

Hard to tell from that GW. Everton away is always tough. Cazorla has said that he has been given freedom to do what he wants, just lie Fabregas did. Kagawa won't be given as much freedom.

Yeah Cazorla for me, a lot of Arsenals attack was going through him and hes not afraid of shooting, he should of had an assist last week when he took the whole Sunderland defence with him then played a lovely ball back through, only for Giroud to blast wide.

I am waiting until news from his scan is out and until Friday to make my move. If he will miss Liverpool then I will transfer him out. Simples. Acting now for the sake of 0.1 isnt worth it when there is still a slim chance of playing this weekend.

I have acted rashly before in similar situations and now will not be doing anything until Friday.

Depends to be honest. Having a high team value means you got good bargains and sold well. But obviously, depending on form, a team cheaper than yours could get more points.
But I'd rather my team value did go up, means you made the right transfers

I know, but what's a better team? For instance, Torres is priced £10.0 but over the course of the season, Petric, or Tevez, or Papiss are cheaper option which may get you more points.
I agree it is better if your team value goes up, but doesn't mean your entire team is good.

I could pick a team that's very expensive right now, but won't get loads of points

By new year you should be bale to get a team value of around 106-107million. This is acheived thru as said previously good selling and buying. This will have a huge affect come the second half of the season. Basically allowing you to get better players in ur team. Ala this may mean you can have another 9.5 million midfielder rather than a Noble for example. Value is important IMO

It is important, I totally agree. I'm just saying that sometimes in the season, a 6.5 Mid will get you more points than a 9.0 because of form. But yes of course it does matter

Mazz, he's certainly worth watching, he'll play a good lot of games in that role since AVB is committed to a sole striker formation. The worry is how much he gets rotated with DVD, and given relatively similar prices, I believe the best value over the season is in Bale.

I never had Aguero (always had Tevez) but in your position I would transfer out Aguero and transfer in Tevez.

I don't think that Fatman and Robin are good value. If they'd both been at ManU at the start of the season, both their prices would be up to £2.0m lower.

For what it's worth, my other two forwards are Podolski and Jelavic.

Graham is another option considering Laudrup's attacking posture.

At 9.0, Tevez is the best value of all the big hitters upfront.

But even at 11.5, Aguero is still cheaper than Fatman and Robin.

You can pay 17.5 for Tevez and Podolski/Jelavic or
you can pay 25.0 for Fatman and Robin.

That's a 7.5 difference (i.e. an entire Hatem Ben Arfa).

Tevez have Pool(a) which should(?) be tougher then Swan(h). Kun might be back for Qpr(h). Nzoggers at home this week while Santi is away vs Stoke, who are always a tough nut to crack when play there.

Does anyone have a link to something which explains how price rises and falls are calculated? Is Michu likely to rise another 0.1 before next week?

Also, when do players become flagged / protected? I had a look at the 'crack the code' site but I couldn't really make sense of it...

Yes Michu will deffo go up. He's on 6.6, likely to be at 6.7 by the end of this week. If he scores again or assists this GW, he WILL be at 6.9-7.0. Definitely !

Players are protected normally when they return from injury etc - so no price rises/falls for a certain no. of days.
Price rises occur usually when a player has an NTI of about 20k; price falls are different - it depends on a players ownership so players with low ownership only need a low NTO to drop in price whereas high ownership players have a higher threshold to fall

How outrageous would it be to punt on Suarez? His stats for the WBA car crash are very good and Pool might just step up against Citeh.

Who is everyone with Torres swapping him for in preparation for GW3 (after the Newcastle game) ? I have 2.5 in the bank after doing Aguero --> Tevez, although I want to go for someone cheaper.

    Currently:
    Silva -- Bale -- McClean -- Guthrie -- Pienaar
    Tevez -- Torres -- Graham

So suggestions under 10.0 to swap Torres for.

Why? I reckon he should be dropped as he is fat and a rubbish footballer, but he is Rooney.

Fergie has dropped him before. I think it as the season before last, Fergie dropped him and started Bebra upfront.

I honestly did not like the look of him. Physically he looked out of shape.

For the people who have saved 2/3m for the Torres > Rooney/RVP switch this week:

What are your plans if Torres scores a hatrick tomorrow?

Does anyone have any knowledge of the Telegraph game?

I had in Torres and Lampard for the first gameweek. Now I've taken them out for RVP/Michu... naturally if we did this in our game we'd continue to get Torres/Lampard's points...

Now it looks like I won't as they've been completely taken out my 'current team'

HUGE flaw and bloody annoyed if that's the case. Many thanks for any help

No reasons required. Just choose. Who will score more over the next 4 GW's.

    A)Rooney
