As the transfer window edges a little nearer to closing, David Moyes continued to bolster Everton’s attacking options with the purchase of Belgian international Kevin Mirallas from Olympiacos on a four- year contract. The 24-year old arrives at Goodison Park in a deal rumoured to be around £5m and is the Toffees’ third acquisition of the summer, following the signings of Steven Pienaar and Steven Naismith:

David Moyes has wasted little time in his quest to re-invest the cash acquired for the sale of Jack Rodwell to Man City and the Everton boss was delighted to clinch Mirallas’ signature after a host of clubs were linked with a move for the player. Speaking to the club’s official website upon completion of the move, Moyes explained:

We’re really pleased to get Kevin. He’ll hopefully add a bit of quality to the squad, give us some more options and we need him. We’ve lost one of two players so we’re delighted to get Kevin in.

The Statistics

Mirallas’ career began as a youth in his native country with Standard Liege but he was snapped up by French outfit Lille before he could make a single first-team appearance. Mirallas struggled to establish himself as a regular over his four seasons at the Ligue 1 club, however, and, although he finally nailed down a place in his final campaign, a return of 10 goals and seven assists in 76 appearances saw him sold to St Etienne in the summer of 2008.

The Belgian continued to struggle during his time in France, however; over two campaigns with “Les Verts” he managed a mere three goals and three assists in 53 league matches before making his way to Olympiacos on a one-year loan deal. Mirallas was an instant impact in his new surroundings –14 goals and a trio of assists in 27 games saw him fire the club to the league title and earn a permanent contract at the Greek outfit. Last term he was even more clinical, with 20 goals and seven assists in 25 matches helping the club retain the title. Mirallas has represented his country at every level from Under 16 to Under 21 and has scored five times in 26 appearances for the Belgian senior side.

The Prospects

There’s no doubt Mirallas will add a much-need attacking threat to a Toffees side that struggled to find the net last term until the January arrival of Nikica Jelavic from Glasgow Rangers. His versatility could be key in assessing the 6 foot Belgian’s game time – he can play on either wing, in “the hole” or also lead the line. At the moment, it’s a case of “wait and see” and bearing in mind he was signed after the deadline to be eligible for last night’s United match, we could see our first glimpse at the weekend away to Villa.

Intriguingly, Mirallas was used to great effect as an inverted winger on the left by Olympiacos, cutting inside on to his favoured right foot to devastating effect. Such a move could see Pienaar used more centrally – it’s worth noting that the South African briefly featured in “the hole” in a pre-season match and with Moyes keen to ease Naismith back into fitness after the summer signing spent much of last season injured at Rangers, it’s certainly an option. Alternatively, Mirallas could tuck in behind Jelavic in Moyes’ preferred 4-5-1 – a move which would see compatriot Marouane Fellaini drop into a deeper role – or he could move to the right, where his arrival could well impact on the likes of Leon Osman.

Mirallas has yet to be added to any of the Fantasy games, with his classification key to how we assess him. A price between 6.5 and 7.5 perhaps seems the likeliest of outcomes in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) regardless of classification, though with Pienaar at 6.5 and Jelavic 8.5, he’ll face a struggle to oust either in many a Fantasy managers’ estimations.

With their home clash against United now out the way, Everton now face a tricky schedule that sees them hit the road in five of the next seven Gameweeks. Bearing in mind that one of their two home matches is against Newcastle, Fantasy managers will be content to keep their distance, holding back any major investment in Mirallas until his place within Moyes’ plans becomes far more apparent.

'Hatem Ben Arfa will miss the start of Newcastle's Europa League campaign as he serves a European suspension dating back to 2010.

Alan Pardew and his players will fly out to Greece tomorrow for their first leg of their play-off clash with Atromitos, but the Frenchman will not be with them as he starts a three-match ban incurred during his time at former club Marseille.'

That's good! Means he's nailed on for this weekend. Was worried that some of Newcastle might be a bit tired after the Europe trip. I expect HBA to be the fittest of the bunch and tear Chelsea's back line apart.

Your thoughts on my GW2 team
Decided to change Torres for Rooney and Phil Jones for Cuellar

    Friedel

Clyne, Lescott, Cuellar (Riise, Collocini=Both wont get clean sheet)

Lampard, Guthrie, Van Der Vaart, Nasri (Ireland=Evertons defence looking great)

    Rooney(c), Graham and Tevez

I came to the realization that having RVP this season would be useless, he's TOO EXPENSIVE, he's not even worth it anymore, I doubt he'll score more than 15 goals this season, better have a main man upfront someone nailed on like New Castle's Cisse, and save up some mils for a good midfield and defense.

First some advice. Had a knee op two years ago. Be VERY diligent with any workout regimes the physios gave you for your post-op time. It takes just a couple of weeks to lose muscle which take months, maybe years to get back.

Can't help you with the challenges. But how about trying to win the Champions League with Emile Heskey as a lone forward? Wait, he was actually good back then wasn't he?

    DDG

    Verm | Clyne | Zabs

    Cazorla | Mata | Michu | Dyer

    Graham | Tevez | Torres

    Subs
    Fed Yaya McCartney Hangeland

Still unsure who to captain but does that seem a good line up for GW2?

    Cazorla | Bale | Noble | N Zog
    Torres | Pog | Aguerro

    (Ruddy | Sinclair | Demel | Barnett)

    1 FT (Obviously...)

I want to go Sinclair to Minchu and Aguerro to Tevez. (Hate making changes to the same team...but like em both and clearly need those team coverage)

Do you think Sinclair is a higher priority than Aguerro? Would you do both?

I know. Don't know what to make of Yaya? Could easily go on a run of 2s/3s at any moment. His assist was by default and would he have got the 2 bonus without the assist. Not sure?

Yeah, not convinced he would have done.

Outside chance of Yaya being pushed forward with Aguero out injured? Mancini not convinced by Dzeko .... maybe that's wishful thinking on my part. I'm happy to stick with him for a few more GW though.

Geesh, I know I shouldnt say this but..
Whats up with "everyone" taking hits, even talking about activate wc?!
    Its madness, crazy..
A hit MAYBE yes, IF you really really needs to/wants to replace a injured player and got to many DGWers to start with.. Why all this panic? Calm down, u made your choices based on something, surely that hasnt changed for everyone? At least not enough to take a hit..

And yes, I know this is a game and everyone can play it how they want.. I respect that, but atleast think about your transfers...
With that said, everyone.. feel free to take 4-8 points hit every gw if u want 😀

The song is stupid, the post isn't ....but if you look up the lyrics it is quite similar really.

Agree on the WC, but then again some people might have made extremally bad choices in players, just check the transfers out to see some of the choices.

The hit is another story, think due to the panic bandwagons causing price rises it could be neccessary, especially if you can drop some DGW players with a blank GW3.

Should be avoided but can be a good gamble if used sparingly.

Take the hit, it's week 2, you won't notice it as your leagues haven't taken shape yet.

Getting the team you want is more important then protyecting a hit or 2 at this early stage.

Went for Kun > Tevez before the rise meaning no United cover short of a hit to get Rooney or Kagawa, which I'm not willing to do. I think they'll beat Fulham, but it won't be a massacre. After last season's GD defeat Fergie will be drilling them to destroy teams when they get the chance, but at this stage I think they'll just be happy with a solid win.
