With many of the big clubs choosing to splash the cash this summer, there are plenty of highly-priced midfield recruits firmly under the Fantasy radar over the first few Gameweeks. In today’s Members article, we analyse the displays of Santi Cazorla and Shinji Kagawa against Sunderland and Everton respectively, and also run the rule over Eden Hazard’s first couple of league appearances in a Chelsea shirt:

Rather bizarrely, all three players’ last games for their respective clubs saw the trio produce an identical number of successful passes in the final third – a figure superior to any other player in Gameweek 1 and a clear indication as to how important they will prove to be over the season ahead. Looking at their roles within their new clubs, we compare each player’s stats to key individuals within their own teams as well as highlighting how the trio differ from one another in style:

    I am surprised that Michu is leading the way in the Captain's Poll. I can understand maybe being ahead of Rooney and RVP as their votes will be pretty much split, but I am surprised he is ahead of Bale (and significantly!) as I kind of assumed that Bale would be winning it easily. What's going on?

          I would have both but out of the 2 I would go Kagawa as he seemed to slot into the team nicely. I am waiting a week or 2 to see how RVP settles.

          Either way I think United will score a few this weekend and I think Kagawa will be amongst it all.

        He's obviously not though. I mean RVP scored more goals in a worse team last year, Rooney has been off form for months (admittedly some of that he was not playing) and sureley, if they both play, RVP will be the main striker with Rooney dropping deep.

        Rooney will probably keep pens for now though, which is the one thing in his favour

    A lot of people on Redcafé asking to bench Rooney from the start against Fulham, going Kagawa behind RVP. The bulk, really. As a United fan I am inclined to agree. And this was partly why I did not get Rooney, that odd chance. Maybe SAF is thinking the same: Roon might need a kick up his arse to get started, get hungry.

        I don't think it'll happen myself, mind you. But he was so uninspired on Monday, and Kagawa impressive enough, that it could make sense to think that Rooney often has patches of bad form, and that Kagawa should be used in the hole where he is best. RVP should start anyway.

        But yeah, the partnership should be developed, and it might be best to bring Rooney to form by actually playing.
