We have our first kick-off of the weekend and we have a beauty to getting things rolling. Fantasy managers are treated to watching their Man City assets dance around Martin O’Neill’s fortifications for 90 minutes in what could either be a 3-3 thriller to mirror last season’s match, or be an inevitable battle of attrition as City struggle to blow Sunderland’s house down. Either way, we’ll be glued to it and savouring every minute as we stare into the precipice of an international break.

As highlighted in Andy’s overnight Catch-Up article Roberto Mancini has stuck true to his word and made more than a few notable changes to his City outfit from Wednesday’s game playing host to Dortmund.

An entire strike-force switch sees both Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko rested to the bench as Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli start in their place. Micah Richards has finally recovered from injury to start at centre-back alongside Joleon Lescott with captain Vincent Kompany and Matija Nastasic absent from the squad entirely – calf and ankle injuries are to blame respectively. To round out the changes Aleksandr Kolarov, Gareth Barry and James Milner also come in for Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri and the injured Javi Garcia.

Martin O’Neill has been a lot calmer on the rotation front by welcoming Carlos Cuellar back from injury and into his starting XI as Sunderland’s only change from last weekend. The teams in full are…

Man City XI: Hart, Zabaleta, Richards, Lescott, Kolarov, Milner, Barry, Y. Toure, Silva, Balotelli, Tevez
Man City Subs: Pantilimon, Clichy, K.Toure, Rodwell, Nasri, Aguero, Dzeko

Sunderland XI: Mignolet, Gardner, Cuellar, O’Shea , Rose, Colback, Larsson, Johnson, McClean, Sessegnon, Fletcher.
Sunderland Subs: Campbell, Kilgallon, Vaughan, Meyler, Bramble, Saha, Westwood.

Our Dugout Discussion chatroom is open and ready to withstand all your reactions in real-time from this and all today’s encounters.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

They always create less chances.. Moving Larsson to the middle means less of his crosses. .And at City away its almost next to nil

Larsson looks so bad centrally, he has no clue where Sess is on the pitch when he has the ball. And no chance of keeping the ball long enough to find him either.

To be fair their approach is crap, McClean looks hurt and might as well be a 2nd LB, when he's not switching sides to the right which I think is their only chance.

Only went for a City defender for the one off game. I know Mancini rotates for fun, but based on predicted line ups, Clichy was nailed on to start. It was clearly not 'obvious' Kol was meant to start, otherwise papers would have copped on to that, so what are you on about?

I think he will start a fair percentage, 65-70%, and come off of the bench another 30% of the time.
So, he will play pretty much most weeks, and I think as a impact sub, he always stands a good chance of scoring/assisting.

They are probably thinking rotation especially with Kun on the bench for this one. Collect points and run to a decent guaranteed starter.

Just occurred to me that if City had a ball-playing central defender who could bring the ball forward... like, FOR ARGUMENT'S SAKE... Luiz, Vertonghen or Vermaelen (feck off Mancini, he's ours) they could do something interesting with the 3-4-1-2 they're playing today.

    Today they're playing:

    ..............Hart
    ....Richards Lescott Zabaleta
    Milner...Yaya....Barry....Kolarov
    ..............Silva
    ......Tevez.........Balotelli

Replace Lescott with Luiz for example and you get:

    ..............Hart
    ....Richards..........Zabaleta
    ..............Luiz
    Milner...Yaya....Barry....Kolarov
    ..............Silva
    ......Tevez.........Balotelli

Luiz plays at the base of a midfield diamond as a DM, stepping in and out of defence and midfield as the situation demands. Yaya, Barry and by extension Silva can all push up still further and strangle the midfield.
