A fine Norwich performance has Arsenal slip to defeat at Carrow Road to deliver a hugely frustrating end to Saturday’s Gameweek 8 action. Here’s part two of today’s Stock Check…

On the Up

The Norwich Defence
Budget back fours continue to attract interest as expensive options fail to produce shut-outs and are forced to fall back on attacking returns. Chris Hughton’s side had showed promise following their opening day drubbing and demonstrated this again tonight with a gritty display. Their fixtures could be worse and the likes of John Ruddy may now earn some attention.

Grant Holt
A third consecutive goal for last season’s leading scorer at Carrow Road. Holt, at last, looks to have cemented his start in Hughton’s lineup and could yet offer some value as a budget striker option this term.

Going Down

The Arsenal Defence
Having started the season so strongly, with three consecutive clean sheets, the Gunners’ backline has failed to keep a shut-out since Gameweek 3. Over 50% of the Fantasy Premier League player base owns an Arsenal defender, with Carl Jenkinson the most popular option, but confidence in Wenger’s rearguard is diminishing by the week.

Vito Mannone
Any claims that Mannone had to the Arsenal number one jersey surely suffered irreparable damage this evening with a shaky performance and the error for the Norwich goal. Wojciech Szczesny may well be several weeks from fitness but he will surely be restored to the lineup once fit.

Santi Cazorla
The Spaniard failed to spark the Gunners this time, falling victim to bitterly disappointing performance from Wenger’s side which showed little in terms of goal threat. The recent clamour for Cazorla will see plenty frustrated this evening but the Gunners do at least have three home games in four to come in which the playmaker will be backed for profit.

Gervinho
Deployed on the flank once again, Gervinho epitomised Arsenal’s showing with ineffective display. His owners will now hope for a shift back to a central attacking role for Arsenal’s forthcoming fixtures but at least the injury suffered to Alex Oxlade Chamberlain could strengthen the Ivorian’s chances of retaining his starting role.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Jason Roberts decides not to wear the T-shirt an McDermott respects his decision yet Sir Alex to 'deal with' Ferdinand. Views? Fair dues to Rio I think, impressed with how he has conducted himself since his international team-mate abused his brother

McDermott said Roberts came and spoke to him about it on friday. Think ferguson was more pissed cos he said we'll stand together in his press conference and rio never told him he wouldn't wear it.

He had no right to make such a statement, he made the statement after he was made aware that R Ferdinand may follow suit. Jones for Stoke chose the same stance, not a word was said, rightly so. IMO Ferdinand may look to leave the club if press into a corner, any he would be right.

I disagree, what authority does Ferguson have to be the fountain of knowledge on racism? Dreadful attitude from Fergie., a prime example of why, despite his achievements in the game, many will always view him first and foremost as a sour faced whiskey nosed b@stard

Glad you brought it up, in my humble opinion on the subject, the KIO campaign is funded and controlled to an extent by the powers that be. SAF is an arrogant man who is also white, is completly out of order taking such a stance, and talking about Ferdinand as if he is a naughty kid. I have the utmost respect for Jason Roberts, who also fergie spoke about with a total lack of respect. Rednapp reckons racism on the terrace's no longer exists, what planet is he living on.

Exactly. Kick it Out is purely a sideshow to appease the FA and make them feel better about themselves. As Roberts said, unless Kick it Out are are independent they will never be accountable for their actions.Roberts and Rio and anyone else of any colour who refuses to parade in the t-shirt should be applauded.

Thoughts on getting rid of Michu? I mean 6 from 8 for a 6.5 OOP mid is quite frankly brilliant. Having doubts on getting rid of him but then I look at his fixtures.

    Hmmm.

In same boat. Prob a season keeper-but I'm hoping I can trade him in/out. Going for Mata now-can always come back to Michu...

Supply is the problem, Michu is not. They've got some real tough fixtures, and I'm not convinced about their attack barring Michu.

I'm keeping I think he'll become the first choice striker cos Graham is pants and it will allow Laudrup to accomodate Routledge, Hernandez and Dyer. I kind of expected him to play there today.

He'll likely be on pens too if Graham is dropped. I dont think hes gonna rip it up by any means but there are probably more pressing players to get rid of.

Trying to fit in Jevalic but not would need to lose one of: Tevez, RVP, Berb

Tevez is most prone to rotation, but without City coverage i can't force myself to cut him.

    Thoughts?

Is it a better idea to do Gervinho to mata today or tommorrow given that I will have an extra .1 from Gervinho tommorrow he will have risen .2 in my team? If u know what i mean.

Do it today in my opinion - that way you'll get more benefit from Mata's future rises.

Not if when he comes to sell Mata later in the season he is halfway to a rise. Doing it tomorrow guarantees .1 profit.

trouble with that is Gerv has a big score in him soon I think he's a decent strong player.
And you know Mata may have 2 quiet games like Haz did a while back.

I normally find fiso reliable it says:
        Mata: 168%
        Gervinho:138%
They should both be secure .1 this morning.

My theory on my HBA > Mata transfer is that the fixtures are not a deterrent to attacking players who are on form. And Mata is very much so. It would be a different thing altogether if I was buying a Chelsea defender...but this is the main creative mid in a team that is on fire and will possibly win the league. At 8.9 that is a bargain. While HBA will deliver some good points hauls...Newcastle aren't strong enough to have faith in their fixtures. As they will probably lose games unexpectedly and put in lax performances.

Mata is my way into Chelsea's attack. Otherwise I go without it...and that is something I can't deal with after getting rid of Hazard.

Oh and by the way I have Ba for Newcastle coverage.

Makes sense then. As I said before, I'm still unsure about transferring Mata in now because of his fixtures (although obviously he still has the potential to score well in those games), but he's definitely a sound investment in the long run. Better value than Hazard in my opinion.

Mata was scoring consistently well at this stage last season. I remember preseason I was having a chat on here with some posters about how Mata's second season could be like Silva's. After a slow start and having a rest he is doing superbly.

    Foster / Begovic
    Baines / Rafael / Cuellar / Demel / Clyne
    Hazard / Cazorla / Nolan / Pienaar / Guthrie
    RVP / Berbatov / Ba

Initial thoughts for next week (early I know) are one of either

    A) Guthrie > Sterling
    B) Rafael > S Taylor/Collocini/Wilson/Vertonghen/Riise
    C) Hazard > Bale

    Any advice/ideas? Cheers
