Today’s big news is that Michu has been ruled out of Swansea’s trip to Fulham tomorrow after picking up an ankle injury at Reading on Boxing Day. Michael Laudrup remains uncertain whether his top goalscorer will be ready to face Villa on New Year’s Day, stating he may be available “with a little luck”.

Luis Suarez has been passed fit to turn out for Liverpool’s trip to QPR as both sides look to bounce back from Boxing Day defeats, while Harry Redknapp is hopeful Ryan Nelsen can shake off a virus in time for Sunday’s game. Carlos Tevez failed to train due to illness yesterday but “should” be fit, according to City assistant boss David Platt. Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri are both back, though Mario Balotelli is likely to miss out with illness once again.

Over at United, Sir Alex Ferguson hopes to have Ashley Young and Danny Welbeck available after they missed out against Newcastle. Phil Jones will be assessed, while Shinji Kagawa could make the bench, according to his manager, who also ruled Wayne Rooney out “for at least another two games”. Jonas Olsson, Youssouf Mulumbu and Goran Popov are all “major doubts” for West Brom ahead of their Old Trafford visit, though.

The injuries mount up for Paul Lambert as Villa prepare for the visit of Wigan. Andreas Weimann and Nathan Baker have been ruled out for the midlands outfit as they look to bounce back from a couple of recent hammerings.

    NEW RULES for next years fpl

    - dedcut points for ghost ship teams eg if u dnt touch ur team for more than 3 weeks u get 10 pts deducted each week. or maybe 5, then 10 then 15 and so on

    - no vice captain ffs two guys low down had rooney C and bale VC

    - option to make ur team invisible so ppl wont ****ing copy ur team

    - or more price rises so players can go up by 1m a week so if ur nt quick on a bandwagon u dnt get a chance also rewards players who pay attention

    -maybe sum sort of bonus pt system if sum1 u bring in does well instead of rewarding ppl who know **** all just captaining rvp and leaving it

    basically fpl shd reqard ppl who take it seriously

      Like the first rule lots.

      Second rule isn't good imo. VC should just get capped points (12 max maybe).

      Third is an awful rule imo.

      Fourth is interesting, maybe makes the landscape way too unstable and maybe encourages template teams even more.

      Don't like this rule.

        The first rule is shite. What about the people who prefer to be faithful to their picks and not touch their team for a few weeks? I know that's not the way we do things on here. But it's a viable strategy. One player in my ML is in the top 20k with 7 transfers. Under these rules he would be deducted points for his patience.

        No use getting butthurt because you put the time in but still getting beat by people who don't.

        The game is meant to be enjoyed by everyone, if you want to cut out the people who don't necessarily have the time to come on sites like this and obsess over it then the rules would be fine. But I think it's pretty arrogant that you seem to have this sense of entitlement like the rules should be there for you and not the majority.

            Roads aren't designed for Formula 1 drivers. And your rules are meant to elevate you over people you deem to be unworthy -- when you're simply bad.

      Captaincy is the most important thing in the game. A better exercise, albeit more saddening, would be to work out how many points you've lost from simply not identifying the highest points scorer out of your own XI!

      Teams on here are all similar but there's still a great difference in ranks, granted some people have taken one hit too many and been too stubborn to get in the likes of Michu/Fellaini but it's mostly to do with differing captain choices.

      Captain's points will end up being about 1/4 of your total points, therefore it's an important call.

      Now, obviously, switching it around to your highest scorer each week will maximize that ... but that's not really feasible.

      Soooo ... sticking the (c) on the most reliable, highest scoring performer will likely be the best way to go. Hence: RVP (c).

      that really is a complete toss up. for all we know giroud will play upfront this week having recovered from illness. as much as i want walcott in my team, i dont trust him at all to deliver. -4 on him is questionable. sterling could even get some points this week as he has been rested (doubtful of course but still...)

      This is actually a decent idea. I could have Bale Mata Fellaini Michu Walcott that way. The trouble is the transfer window. We could bring in someone like Carlton Cole and then West Ham could buy a striker. I think we need more flexibility in the funds distribution.

      I would be tempted to sell as Walcott has a dgw, gives you 11 this week (there may be other shock surprises) and michu might miss more than the one game.

    Sterling is off the boil and been rested last 2, could be a 1 point cameo - so Walcott. Also good to have Walcott for the DGW

    ok so if I go Mata over Caz (and assume that both Caz and Theo is too much for DGW I'd be 0.1 short as i have 0.2 in the bank. As it happens i was planning Shorey to Demel anyway which would free up the 0.1 needed. So the question is

    a) Get Caz over Mata then get Mata back on wc

    b) Get Mata and just hope he doesn't rise

    c) Sell Rafa over Shorey thus freeing up more than enough cash

    I suppose the main question is, is Caz and Theo too much for DGW?
