634x258 The Stock Check

An ten-minute avalanche ensures that another double Gameweek delivers big returns as Arsenalโ€™s key attacking assets come good. Over at the Liberty Stadium meanwhile, Swanseaโ€™s progress to the Capital One Cup Final is somewhat overshadowed by an extraordinary sending off for Eden Hazard. Hereโ€™s the Stock Check on Wednesdayโ€™s actionโ€ฆ

On the Up

Lukas Podolski
Having missed Sundayโ€™s clash through illness, the German chose the second fixture of the double Gameweek to deliver his biggest haul of the season, including a trio of quick-fire assists. Whilst he was again replaced for the fifth match running, with three home fixtures in the next four and in this form, Podolski will surely go on earning new suitors and enjoy a further price rise prior to next weekโ€™s midweek deadline.

Theo Walcott
Backed with the armband by so many Fantasy managers, Walcott delivered once again with his second goal of the Gameweek, plus the assist for Giroudโ€™s first goal. Walcottโ€™s consistency is there to be admired: heโ€™s scored six goals in his last seven starts and has only failed to return in one of those matches. Regardless of whether he plays as a striker or winger, Walcott is potent.

Santi Cazorla
Arsenalโ€™s playmaker had failed to notch since his stunning hat-trick at Reading but timed his return to the scoresheet for the double Gameweek. While he has now moved on to eight goals and assists for the season, with Walcott continuing to stream returns, only those looking for a differential or brave enough to double on Arsenalโ€™s attacking assets, will surely consider Cazorla over Walcott right now.

Olivier Giroud
Against the odds, the Frenchman started both double Gameweek fixtures and tonight delivered unlikely returns. The brace moved him on to eight goals for the season and, at 7.8, heโ€™s comes in cheaper than Lucas Podolski. For those looking to back the Gunners over their three home fixtures in four, Giroud is yet another differential option to consider, although his security of starts remain in question.

Going Down

The West Ham Defence
Backed with double Gameweek investment, few would have expected returns from the trip to the Emirates but, having leaked five goals, the Hammers back four has conceded 12 in their last six league outings. Itโ€™s one clean sheet in twelve and Sam Allardyce will surely make an improvement at the back a priority having regularly emphasised the need to build survival plans on shut-outs.

Joe Cole
Having notched in Saturday’s league outing with QPR, Cole was rested to the bench tonight as he continues to build his fitness on his return to regular action. While the decision to preserve Cole is understandable, it will dent the confidence of would-be investors who will now likely reserve judgement until Cole has strung together further consecutive appearances.

Eden Hazard
Dismissed for what appeared to be a kick on a Swansea City ball-boy, the Belgian will serve a violent conduct charge that will come with a three-match ban that will see him miss league matches against Reading and Newcastle. We can only wait the fall-out to see if any further action will be taken which could see the ban increased. The dismissal capped a night to forget for Rafa Benitez who started with Demba Ba up front but saw his side frustrated by the defiant Swans.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I actually got him in late friday when he was a doubt for saturday. I wanted a striker cheaper than ba (dont trust rafa) and i only cared about the wham game. Arsenal have a habit of bouncing back after dropping points. He looked so sharp last night the rest obviously worked.

I was pre-stuffed with Arsenal from a few weeks back so he was never an option for me. But I actually would have gone Giroud, so not much difference. Ba for sure was untrustworthy with Rafa now, so something had to be done.

Alright guys, what would you do with this lot?

    Migs Jaask
    Luiz Gibbs Demel Harte Clyne
    Mata Walcott Punch Fellaini Michu
    Podolski RVP Berb

Before last night I was going to do a 4pt hit to do Pod > Pog and Punch > Bale

Now considering just doing a single transfer in my defence. Got about £3m in the bank. Considering either

    A. Luiz > Baines
B Luiz > Davies, Punch > Bale (4pt hit) (would upgrade Demel next week)
C Stick with Pod > Pog, Punch > Bale (4pt hit)

It does feel like you have a low team value... if you intend to play 4-4-2 every week I guess it's alright, little thin in defense for that though. I think I'd consider ditching Bale or Mata for Fellaini/someone else around 7-8M, giving you the chance of upgrading Pog or Marv and play 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 most weeks.

In my current actual team I have Fellani and Puncheon instead of Bale and Marv. Really want Bale in for this week, but so difficult to juggle the rest of the team.

Depends. If he plays, then agreed he's a good bench option. But you need your cheap bench player to be someone that actually gets 90 minutes (or as good as). If he's sat on Newcastle's bench, then he's not much good to you if one of your first team gets an unexpected injury and misses a game. I'd try and find the cash to get Puncheon.

    With a potential front 8 of :

I think that's why people either go with 4 good mids and 3 strikers or 5 good mids and 2 strikers + pog. I think you're gonna have to make a choice then use the extra funds to upgrade a defender. Otherwise you're gong to have a lot of cash sitting on your bench every week.

Wouldn't touch Bunn with Norwich signing Camp.

Not sure I'd take Clyne on with Southampton's fixtures to come.

The rest of it looks fine to me.

One worry might be no Stoke defense for their good upcoming fixtures. No guarantee Wilson will be ready to jump on.

What do you guys think of this team?

    Reina Federici

    Zabaletta Azpi Davies Martin Harte

    Bale Mata Walcott Fellaini Puncheon

    Rvp Fletcher Benteke

Have 0.9 banked to probably do Fletcher to Studge in a couple weeks. Might move Felli out soon too. Incidently Punch and Benteke rotate quite well for a while could be a good combo. NEW wig WHM new QPR rea qpr over the next 7 gw's

pretty good team. bit different take than the template.

if you make downgrades in defense you could fit in aguero

yeah I've been weighing that. Just seems there's some good cheapish attacking options that can match aguero if they're juggled right. Still tempted to fit him in though ๐Ÿ˜•

      Isn't Reina injured?

The Benteke/Puncheon rotation looks good doesn't it? I think if Benteke picks up steam it gives you the option to play him every week and have a decent sub too so is quite flexible.

Stupid podolski, I bought Cisse instead of him because he was sick, and then he appears in the second game and gets his highest score of the season. Who would have thought? Dammit.

OTOH doesn't look like I've got anything to lose by waiting.
