Watchlist

The Watchlist – Jonny Evans

It’s not been the most straightforward of seasons for United’s Jonny Evans. Four times the centre-half has been sidelined now, with ankle, leg, groin and hamstring problems curtailing his game time over the course of the campaign – as a result, the most he’s managed is six consecutive league starts thus far.

Nevertheless, Evans’ presence in the United back-four has been significant. The league leaders have managed one clean sheet in the 10 games without the Northern Ireland international in their first XI – with Evans in the starting line-up, they have registered five clean sheets in 16 games by comparison.

Factor in three goals, a pair of assists and nine Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points and Evans has racked up 81 points – an average of 4.8 points per game, which is exactly the same as Patrice Evra and superior to Rafael’s 4.1. Indeed, this is joint-top for regular defenders overall, equalling Jose Enrique, with the likes of Leighton Baines and Branislav Ivanovic just behind on 4.6 and 4.4 respectively.

Providing he can now remain injury-free, Evans looks set to be key to Sir Alex Ferguson’s side over the remainder of the season. Over the last few days, the United boss has lavished praise upon the centre-half and suggested Evans’ game will continue to develop with the aid of regular appearances. Ferguson hinted that a fully-fit Evans is likely to afford him the chance to alternate Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand at centre-half as United also juggle FA Cup and Champions League commitments.

“Jonny is only 25 but he’s emerged in the last year as a real top defender. His form has been fantastic. If you can get consistency off young players you are on the right track and Jonny has shown great consistency in the last year. Last season it wasn’t until Ferdinand and Evans played regularly that we got a run going.”

Considering United’s midfield have failed to step up as Fantasy options this season, investment in defence could well appeal ahead of a run of games which affords the chance to consolidate their 12 point lead at the summit. Norwich and Reading roll up to Old Trafford over the next five and with trips to QPR, West Ham and Sunderland also on their agenda, faith in their Fantasy assets could extend beyond their free-scoring frontmen.

Coming in at 5.6 in FPL and 7.5 in the Sky Sports game, Evans is significantly cheaper than Evra’s 7.3 in FPL and also sets you back less than Rafael, at 6.0. An ownership of 1% offers a real differential route into a backline that has now registered four back-to-back clean sheets with the centre-half in their ranks – an indication of just why Ferguson sees Evans’ contribution as crucial to his side’s chances of wrestling back the title from City.

OK for a laugh. Have a look at the piece of crap my team is going to be this week. If only I could play 2 keepers!

    De Gea
    Bertrand - Sagna - Baines
    Puncheon - Fellaini - Walcott - Mata
    Fletcher

    Bench - Federici - Davies - Michu - Sturridge -Suarez - Johnson

Go on what would you do to rescue the week? 2.4 to spend

Yes Suarez and Johnson is what I am thinking maybe Davies if there was the right option. Not Michu I made far to much money on him. Sturridge is good value so prob keep him

I have been thinking will there be a fall off of performance from Swansea when they win the cup. So defo Davies out, Wilson would seem obvious choice.
Suarez would be my other choice, giroud or podolski if playing would seem bet option, but I would then swap for sturridge as there is points to be made from Liverpool.
Maybe even do Davies to evans now I noticed your cash

I don't normally like to double up on defenders but the utd fixture list looks like appetising and I see what you are saying about swansea. I also agree that Suarez should be the pool forward to go. Quite tempted by Cisse up front

I see Wenger knows that Arsenal are about to get a hiding...

This is a very timely & deliberate attempt from him to get the players in a determined mood.

I believe this is a form of panicing & shows that he is extremely aware of the fact that his team are not good enough.

Utd are 12 points clear, still in the FA Cup & got a very decent result away to Madrid.

Utd are investing money in the team.

Utd are not selling their best players to their rivals.

Utd have won numerous trophies in the last 8 years.

BTW a bit of a retrospective on Wenger - specifically a 6-year-old retrospective on Wenger!

                  http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/a/arsenal/5380998.stm

"The Frenchman's obsession for perfection and infamous eye for detail, with training timed to the second and diets measured to the calorie, altered the attitude of players and supporters alike.

His methodical, scientific approach drew extra years from an ageing back four and ahead of it he sowed the seeds to the scintillating style on show today."

                  Feels like a different era.

I know Wenger is highly capable, but he is now too stubborn.

So much so, that it is effecting the teams progress.

                    He wants too much control.

He had the masterplan of the new stadium, he felt he could manage the youngsters into champions, with his 5 year plan...

Wenger is now going against logic, in stubborness.

Crashing out of the Capital One cup and now the FA cup to lower league teams shows that it is not the boards penny pinching that is at fault, but rather, Wenger's tactics.

Thanks, annoying that it's not simple to find out. Even more annoying that I missed the first week. think I would be around 50k

I think I may have decided to jettison Davies, not Bertie, from my squad. I believe that there may be another hangover from Sunday's match/decisions ...

Ready for this week without needing to take a hit 🙂

                Jussi, Bego
                Baines, Sagna, Dawson, Mariappa, Demel
                Bale, Mata, Walcott, Sissoko, Michu
                Van Persie, Pogrebnyak, Suarez

Looking ahead though, will definitely hope to roll a transfer next week if there's going to be a few missing games GW 29.
