Papiss Cisse is ruled out of Newcastle’s trip to Anzhi due to a virus, though Hatem Ben Arfa is expected to feature for the Magpies. Jermain Defoe looks set to replace Emmanuel Adebayor up top for Tottenham’s trip to Inter, Victor Moses and Ramirez are left out of Chelsea’s Europa League squad to face Steaua Bucharest, while Steve Clarke is hopeful a number of players can shake off minor injuries for West Brom’s home clash with Swansea:

Alan Pardew has confirmed Papiss Cisse has been omitted from Newcastle’s Europa League squad for tonight’s match against Anzhi due to illness. Speaking to the club’s official website yesterday, the Magpies boss revealed:

“Papiss has been sick since Sunday, so myself and the doctor went to see him this morning to see whether we felt he could travel – with me definitely thinking he could. But he didn’t look well, to be honest, so we’ve had to leave him behind unfortunately.”

Cisse has already risen in price in FPL this week, with more than 8,000 managers snapping him up ahead of a crucial home clash with Stoke. Pardew is a little short in striking options right now – he admitted he was somewhat reluctant to take Shola Ameobi to Russia and is concerned the playing conditions could prove problematic to the player’s long-term knee complaint. Ameobi looks in pole position to lead the line against the Potters should Cisse fail to make it, while Hatem Ben Arfa is edging his way back into contention – Pardew confirmed the Frenchman is set to play some part in this evening’s match after hamstring and fitness issues.

Rafa Benitez has decided to omit both Victor Moses and Ramires from Chelsea’s squad to face Steaua Bucharest tonight. Moses has made just two brief sub appearances in the league since helping Nigeria to the African Cup of Nations last month, while Ramires has proven a key member of Benitez’s starting XI, playing 90 minutes in all but one of the last 10 Gameweeks. Yossi Benayoun is back in the squad after a brief ankle problem and could play a part, with Benitez expected to make plenty alterations ahead of the weekend FA Cup Sixth Round clash against United. Demba Ba is, of course, ineligible this evening, having played for Newcastle in the same competition earlier this season and looks likely to edge out Fernando Torres for Sunday afternoon’s trip to Old Trafford.

Jermain Defoe is expected to return to the Tottenham starting line-up for this evening’s Europa League trip to Inter. Reports indicate that Emmanuel Adebayor is thought to only have a “slight chance” of recovering in time from the knee problem that forced him off against Arsenal last Sunday and, while the Togo international should be fit for this weekend’s trip to Liverpool, the San Siro clash could come too soon. Having only just recovered from a recent ankle injury, Defoe looks likely to lead the line for the in-form north London outfit, while Andre Villas-Boas is also set to welcome Mousa Dembele back – the Belgian has recovered from the knee issue sustained against the Gunners and has returned to full training.

Steve Clarke rolled out a substantial injury update yesterday ahead of West Brom’s weekend home game against Swansea. The Baggies boss admitted that, while a handful of his first-team regulars have struggled to train this week, he is confident the situation will have eased off by Saturday:

“Claudio (Yacob) has a knock, hasn’t trained, but should be okay. Steven Reid has a knock, hasn’t trained this week, but he should also be okay. Jonas (Olsson) didn’t train on Monday but trained yesterday and Youssouf Mulumbu had a migraine but he’s fine now. Hopefully everyone will be fine tomorrow.”

Clarke also went on to reveal that Chris Brunt and Shane Long both sustained twisted ankles in the past week. While Long is now “okay” after picking up the problem in last Saturday’s narrow defeat at Chelsea, Brunt – who missed the Stamford Bridge match altogether with the complaint – remains a real doubt; he attempted to return to training earlier in the week but was forced out after the problem played up again.

Brian McDermott rolled out an injury update first thing this morning. The Reading boss has revealed Adam Federici will remain sidelined with the ankle problem that kept him out of last weekend’s trip to Everton – a bitter blow for the Australian’s 5% FPL owners, with some likely to be without a keeper in light of the reduced fixture schedule. Stuart Taylor is set to step in for the Royals, with Alex McCarthy still not ready to return from a shoulder injury. McDermott also admitted Jimmy Kebe remains a doubt with the groin injury that forced him off at Goodison last time out.

I hope Mirallas is classed a midfielder next season. He should have a bit of discount after his injuries this season.

No way should United let Rooney go, he's so infuential and can't be replaced easily. He's just had a difficult season fitness wise. Fergie made the correct decision playing Welbeck and Nani the other night but of course sensationalist stories will always follow Rooney around.

Was just looking at stats before, for mate who's Liverpool fan and reckons he's off.

All competitions this seson 22 starts, 5 sub appearances (12 goals and 12 assists). These are proper assists and not FPL assists aswell.

Not bad for a player playing out on wing or deep in the majority of games and having a "bad" season!

        Fellaini > Sissoko
        Aguero > Lukaku
Pog > Bentekers or Cisse if fit

-4pt hit. Yours looks good transfers also fella 🙂

I am french and i have seen a lot of games of sissoko, and i can t believe that i am about to take it on my team.
He was just a good player in a poor team, i can t understand what is happening whith him.
He scored more in a month in England than he had scored in France.
It s not an obvious choice for me!

Must say,I'm extremely jealous of a lot of posts informing me that they're able to field 10-11 players this week and viewing the linked one's, some are even pretty good! I've made two free one's and still only have 8 (and that includes Pearce) I was thinking of taking a hit to get either Johnson or Enrique in but general consensus is not to take a hit on a defender, particularly one playing spurs, I also fear a hit will put me out of the last 64 of the members cup.....sad times.

Yeah, it's a very competitive league. I'm in fourth, but my record is W16 L12. If I'd lost 4 of the games I've won, out of 28, I'd be in 16th. I've had two 2-point wins and two 3-point wins, so it could have been a very different story.

I was at Old Trafford a few years ago when they won the title in the last game against Arsenal. It was pretty odd when they called out the players receiving the winners medals and then the players that had contributed but were not eligible to receive a medal.

It would suck to be one of those players!

The League Champions shall further receive 21 commemorative medals to be presented by the Club to its Manager and to such of its Players and Officials as it thinks fit provided, in the case of a Player, that he has that Season played in a minimum of 10 of its League Matches. Additional medals may be presented with the consent of the Board.

Those are the two I would get, and if you could afford it I would say move Mata and Marveaux. You might want to consider a hit to fund it, so Azpi, Mata, and Marv to Bale, Siss, and cheap (but playing) defender. Of you could just do Mata and Fell to Bale and Siss.

@HECO87: The main key why Barfa has done bad this season is the change in system by Pardew. As he has fielded 2 up front with wide players less involved in shooting. Rather than the 3 up front system that saw Barfa do well at the end of last season.

I know you dont like stats, but this simple change resulted in Barfa taking most of his shots from outside the box(5-7% conversion rate) rather than inside the box like last season(20-22% conversion rate). The possible pen duty has given him a respectable goal total so far, but not nearly good enough for his price. So barring a system change for Pardew, or Barfas deployment in the Sissokho role I cant see a big improvement.

Yeah, the problem is you're comparing Ben Arfa when he was playing in that side to Sissoko playing in the current one, with the new set up and full of confidence. The system has already changed, have you seen any of our games for the last 6 weeks?

To say that there are no reasons to suggest owning Ben Arfa is worthwhile is laughable.

I have watched a few, mainly as I wanted to see how the defense is doing and also how Siss plays. They are playing better yes, but wingers are still not that involved. Barfa will take over from Gouffran or Gutierrez IMO and will play and shoot from similar positions. While he is a better player, he is not a miracle worker to make him worth owning at that price. When we have players like Fellaini and Sissokho available.

I could be wrong, but I just cant see him providing FPL points with any consistancy. At least not this season.

Gouffran has been fairly involved in the matches he's played.. Gutierrez isn't really an attacking force so I reckon the team is crying out for Ben Arfa to return.

            We'll agree to disagree.

Just a "I can't believe he didn't start" compaint. I'm not saying your point is not suggestive, but suggestive is all it is, and the story that has been posted offers no other sources than you just posted.

      Need some advice please guys.

      a) Mata > Sissoko in order to do Aguero > RVP next week

      or

      b) Fellaini > Sissoko and keep Aguero.

I have a similar issue. If you do Mata to Siss and Kun to RVP, will you have enough to do Fellaini to Oscar at the same time?

It'll be very close. As it stands now I could do it to leave nothing in the bank.

        A. I'd prefer Tevez to Kun at the moment. Aguero has been the biggest let-down FPL-wise this season. So much wasted cash...

Agreed. Aguero's season started badly and hasn't got any better since then. As a Man United fan I'm not complaining! Fantasy-wise, I need to get rid asap.

Question for Telegraph game (limited transfers, FA cup games count)

Hart or DDG for the rest of the season?

Anyone know if City are likely to rest Hart again for the FA cup think they have in previous rounds.

        DDG for me.

City normally play Pantyman in the Cup so Hart will get a rest.
