Last Monday’s Manchester derby afforded Sergio Aguero the perfect platform to serve Fantasy managers a reminder of his capabilities. Emerging from the bench late on, the Argentine weaved his way through the hosts’ backline before thrashing the ball past David De Gea as United’s stuttering bid for the title continued:

Having helped clinch the league with virtually the last kick of the previous season, Aguero was firmly in many a manager’s plans heading into the 2012/13 campaign. A knee problem sustained on the opening day at home to Southampton saw almost 500,000 jump off the bandwagon by the time September arrived and while Aguero returned to the first-team fold by Gameweek 5, he’s yet to find the consistency that harvested 23 goals, nine assists and 30 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points in a devastating debut campaign.

Granted, Aguero has failed to mirror his own high standards thus far but has, nevertheless, delivered 10 goals and three assists from just 18 starts and, as he edges back towards full fitness following a recent knee problem, is clearly in the mood to deliver again. While United remain in pole position to wrestle the title back from Roberto Mancini’s side, the remaining fixtures hand City the chance to rack up the points and at the very least cement second spot behind their rivals.

After a FA Cup semi-final with Chelsea this weekend, City entertain Wigan at the Etihad next Wednesday, while West Ham, Norwich and West Brom have all still to pay visit – the Baggies clash is yet to be rescheduled, meaning City still have a double Gameweek to follow. Bearing in mind they also have trips to Swansea and Reading, it’s a fair assumption that Fantasy managers will be eyeing up City’s main assets with some anticipation.

Now down to 10.9 in FPL (9.9 in the Sky Sports game), Aguero has less than 5% ownership in FPL at present and, similar to David Silva, approaches the last few fixtures as a real differential. Providing he’s 100% fit, the Argentine is surely set to start every match from here on in as Mancini attempts to save face in what has been a disappointing defence of the title. Ironically, if United sew up the title soon, owners of Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney may choose to freshen up their front three if Sir Alex Ferguson decides to rotate up top – a move to Aguero seems a strong tactic for the remaining matches, then, as the City forward looks to finish the season with a flourish once again.

        Surely taking an 8 point hit when you're 10 points back is counter-productive... All this scrambling for the dgw is always over-played. Usually there's 1 or 2 players that everybody wished they had in hindsight... Never 7 or 8.

    Anyone else agree that Cazorla's potential weekend off is a load of fluff? Surely with Arsenal's run in so critical, and with Rosicky missing/Wiltshere not fully fit they'll need him to play both games, preferably in the hole? Can't see Wenger getting sentimental and allowing his best player the weekend off.

    Hows this for a wild wildcard team:

    DDG* (Robles^)

    O'Brien* - Nastasic^ - Sagna* - Baines* (Rangel^)

    Cazorla* - Fellani* - Silva^ (Michu^, Maloney^)

    RVP(C)* - Aguero^ - Rodriguez

    * = DGW 33 (7 players)

    Right, it's down to this or -4:

    A. Pog > Berba (have RVP and Suarez) 4-3-3
    or
    B. Sisso > Wally (have caz already) 4-4-2

      Posted the same thing further down. One day training after injury + competition for places + not the best form. Don't see the rush to ditch players like Hazard/Mata for him, for a hit.

    a) DDG + Sagna

    or

    b) Fabianski + Baines

        I'm more swayed by a) at the moment. Just think United could keep 2 CS's quite easily.

    Hey guys. These transfers worth -8? (Already did Bale->Fella)

    Andersen->Fabianski
    Sissoko->Walcott
    Pearce->Rafael

    Would leave me with 6 dgw players.

    Why is everyone and their mom ditching players with decent fixtures for Walcott, for a hit? Last I heard he was 90% to be fit for the game (anything new?), coming back from injury with competition for places it's a gamble whether he'll start both, no?

      With Rosicky doubtful, he'll probably slot back in and Cazorla will come into the middle.

        Rosicky doubt is a boost, I agree. There's still three games to be played over one week, and given Walcott's injury history I can't see Wenger taking too many risks with his fitness.

          It's tough but I'd suspect he'd feature in both games definitely. Luckily I kept hold of him when he got injured with this DGW in mind, so it's a no brainer for me. Taking a hit however... I think I'd go for it.

    1. Which Manchester United defender bar Evra is most likely to play both games?

    2. Is getting rid of Lambert for Berbatov worth it given Fulham's two fixtures?

    3. Better captain choice? Cazorla or RVP?

      1. Rafael and Phil Jones would be my bet. Jones can be used in midfield as well.

      2. Lambert has a decent run-in, not sure it's worth a hit. Fulham don't score too many goals, although he has a good % of them.

      3. Cazorla IMO.

      Nice one guys. Looks like Rafael and Lambert for me, still torn on captaincy. Will probably go with one then change it to the other in the morning.
