Just one Premier League game tonight (and the first of our doubles), but we’d thought we’d open the Dugout Discussion as it coincides with the return of European football. I’m guessing nothing less than a Birmingham City clean sheet will be warmly received on these parts, but hopefully an entertaining game in Italy will ease our pain if that doesn’t come to fruition.

The lineups from St. Andrews are in…

Birmingham XI: Foster, Carr, Johnson, Jiranek, Ridgewell, Larsson, Ferguson, Gardner, Bentley, Martins, Zigic

Newcastle XI: Harper, Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Jose Enrique, Barton, Tiote, Nolan, Gutierrez, Lovenkrands, Best

So Obafemi Martins starts against his former club, and partners Nikola Zigic up front for the home side.

Elsewhere, Mario Balotelli returned for Man City as a substitute as they drew in Greece, and Rafael Van der Vaart makes a return to Spurs’ starting line-upin the San Siro.

Akers Richard or Akers, as he is known, has been regularly haunting this site since July 2008. He is young and foolish, take what he says with a pinch of salt. Follow them on Twitter

I gotta say this about Foster. Every time I started him, he would give up goals, and every time I had him on my bench when he was up against a tough opponent, he would get a clean sheet. I got rid of Foster right before GW27 for Szesney, as I thought Djourour wouldn't play. Begovic is my other keeper. After watching the result today against the Toon, I'm happy I made the move.

If Adam gets another yellow, I'll move him out for Cahill, otherwise, Lennon will be making way for him.

look at how foster compares to other keepers in terms of points. he still got a clean sheet last game and 9 points for me this gameweek. he gets so many save points even when he lets in goals.

Let's look at the keepers ManU has had since Peter Schmeichel was the epitome of stability.

Barthez-Like Calamity James, could make a save no other keeper could make but was very erratic.

Tim Howard-Fergie never trusted him after a bad Champions League game.

Roy Carroll- nother more than a stop gap, since Howard was never trusted again.

Van der Sar-has ably filled the position and it's no coincidence Utd starting winning trophies since then.

Ben Foster-was supposed to be the heir apparent to Van der Sar, and showed great ability while on loan to Watford, but never sustained his level of play and fell out of favor.

Well, he is ranked 450th in world. His only "weakness" is he is a big MAnU fan and will always play Berba/Nani.

He played berba and scored 1pt, with Mereilles first sub.

He has the tendency to be "lucky". Collocini did well for him this week with 2 CS in 2 away games. Plus Bonus.

Djourou, Adam, VDV (10 point Nani if he doesn't play), Fabs, Wingie, RVP(c)

    - chances of keeping the green run going?

Yeah, I definitely made a few rookie errors early on. This is the first season I've taken FPL seriously so a top 5,000 finish would be decent.

Next season - top 1,000 is the goal! 🙂

Dubai's good, been a bit chilly lately by our standards (low 20s) but will be toasty again in no time. Being a London lad, it's fair to say I don't miss the dark dreary winter days...

Yeah, if you look at the consistent fpl performers that post on FFS, they all have one thing in common. Limit hits.

Im going to do my best to not take any hits this season. Not long to go!

Yeah, it's been 56 points of hits so far this season for me, of which probably 30 should have been avoided. This and not having Berbatov for any of his big hauls have hurt me. You've got a good rank - top 500 the target?

I will be over the moon(Shocked) with top 1000 ranking.

First prize would be to win my mini league. I managed to take the lead for a single week in gw24 after a good haul with my WC, but now I have 20pts to make up again. Fabregas has been my downfall. First he was overshadowed by nasri and now the cheaper Walcott is doing well. Of course my mini league leader has never had Fab, but allways one of Wally/nasri!

Close second would be to get promoted from h2h reserve league. I have lost 2 games by 1pt if I recall correctly. Hope that does not bite my in the Arse.

      Quiet, isn't it!

I like it. Means I have a chance to hear myself think.

      So, here's my gw28 misfits:

      Begovic
      Walker Kelly Simpson Huth Coleman
      Etherington Barton [Walcott]
      Tevez Bent

      Gomes Fabregas RVP Lennon

I need to do Walcott out. Or maybe Lennon. I could do Walcott to Cahill, or Lennon to Nani.

      Any other tips?

I think you really need to get rid of Etherington if he's not going to play.

If Adam doesn't get booked against Spurs then maybe get him in for Ethers and Nani for Lennon. I'd keep Walcott.

I don't think I'm bothering with Cahill even for the double gameweek. I'd rather get VdV back in GW29. If anything I think Gardner might be a better option for that double?

Thought I'd have a quick look at my goalkeeper choices this season.

91/113, 5 times I have picked the wrong keeper resulting in 22 lost points. Having a dead 2nd keeper hasn't helped in some GWs. Goes to show how important the keeper position really is. Plenty here would have over 100 points from their keeper this season so it's another area I can improve. Hopefully Begovic doesn't lose his spot or else I'll be in that dead 2nd keeper area again. 🙁

This has been my weakest link this season too. I can't even remember who I started with but for a long spell I went with Hart and Carson.

Then I swapped Hart for Van der Saar only for him to get injured so I went for Kingson. With Carson. possibly the worst keeper Combo in the entire history of FPL.

Wildcarded in Foster and Harper last week but still played the wrong 'un even then!

Next season I'm not messing around with one expensive and one cheap keeper. I'm getting two cheapies who rotate well and are guaranteed starters and will just go with the home keeper each week.

Did do any research on that. The top 3 keepers Hart, Cech & Foster are all above 100 points. If I just played Foster every week since my 1st wildcard when I bought him I would have an extra 15 points & be ranked 1500 spots better in 2200.

I'm not sold on Cahill even for the double gameweek. Everton are very unstable at the moment.

I think I'm going to get VdV back in GW29 instead. Coleman will probably be my only Everton coverage for that gameweek.

This coming GW I'd rather get Rooney if he's got a DGW than blow nearly £9m on Cahill.

Not a fan. I got Bent instead for Villa attacking options.

However, Villa have some nice games coming up and he is on pens so you could do a lot worse than Young.

    Oz EPL Sportal Update

Having a look at the table the following FFS members are in these positions overall.

Sven 7th, Dick Fran Dyke 10th, Demented Flamingo 56th, my main team 132nd, PDM 176th & my TM team 459th. DFD has rocketed up the table in recent weeks mainly due to RVP & Fabregas.

F*cking Newcastle. Ummed and arghed about getting Enrique. Didnt because Djourou looked like he might start.
My main rival promptly brought in Simpson...with Newc then keeping 2 AWAY CLEAN SHEETS in 4 days. He's now top again. Damn it

no fair play...i had simpson for ages and he actually did alright when i had to play him (better than that goat Zat Knight ever did for instance)

Just frustrating when fixtures seemed to scream Birmingham, then Newcastle rip up the (away) form book.

Just cant get ahead of this rival. Got a wild card left though (he hasnt)...really need to use it well...any ideas!?

    Morning all,

About to play my WC, but which of these combinations do people think is better:

    1. Fabregas, Cahill, Adam
    2. Walcott, VDV, Cahill

    Thanks in advance

Fabregas & Adam or Walcott & VDV. Tricky one. Depends on which Fabregas is playing.

depends how he fits into your strategy

i picked adam and barton as they rotate perfectly, also barton has a run of 4 nice games where adam is likely to miss 2 so it isnt a probloem for me

unless of course adam goes 4 games without a yellow then gets one 🙁

Yep if he gets booked against Spurs I'll definitely ship him. Really want both Cahill and VDV but worried that Fabregas is on the verge of a huge score, he's been playing well and been unlucky a few times not to have notched a couple.

I'm leaning towards getting rid aswell. If I keep him I'll have to bench 2 midfielders this week, which I don't want to do. Also, none of my rivals have him.

That may prove to be correct - but with Tottenham having one foot in the CL quarters, Ars/Tot are running out of options for their re-arranged fixture. 1st March is still a possibility - hence my carefully chosen word.

itll be after the fa cup game cesc4, they have pencilled in march 1st for a replay against orient if its needed so it proves they can be expected to play that date, whether they will or not remains to be seen

should know early next week, we should also have news of chelsea 2 double gameweeks then aswell

I think we'll find out after the Orient vs Arsenal cup match. I think the most likely date for Spurs/Arsenal is March 15th (GW29) - it's the CL week when Man Utd and Chelsea play (Ars/Tot play the week before) but the fact that they haven't scheduled it yet appears to me like they're waiting to see what happens in the FA Cup. If Arsenal win, then March 1st is free - and could be used. In theory.

In the unlikely event of an Orient win it'll almost certainly be in GW29 as they'll use the FA Cup 6th round date on March 12th. My educated guess says this is the real reason they're waiting for the Orient game before deciding - and if, as expected, Arsenal win, they'll go for March 15th for the Spurs game.

with tottenhams fixture list i think harry will push for it to be that date, wenger wont, so itll come down to the fpl's decision

anyone taking arsenal and spurs players out already is a bit premature (although i may have to remove defoe anyway)

I'm saying that 20,000 transfers in for Van Persie even though Arsenal don't have an EPL fixture this gameweek as they play Birmingham in the Carling Cup - check the ticker. I did not say he won't play but that he doesn't have a fixture!!!
