With a break from Premier League action this weekend, we’re presented with some breathing space to allow us to take stock and assess strategies for success for the remaining Gameweeks.

This season has seen the evolution of template midfields and attacks with the same names rotation across thousands of Fantasy squads. As a result the defence has become a key area for differentials and while clean sheets have been hard to come by all season, the quest for defenders who can return attacking points and Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus, remains a key one.

In this latest Numbers Game article for Members, we take a look at the Gameweek OPTA statistics gathered over the past four Gameweeks to analyse those defenders who have offered the best potential in these areas.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

                  the fact that you didnt really like it first time around is probably a good thing!

                  suburbs is amazing. i didnt particularly like it at first (apart from suburban war) but know love it. songs like deep blue really grew on me. funeral is the best album ever! its still by far my most listened to album.tunnels is magical

      At the moment I'm having a hard time trying to convince myself that Cahill will actually be worth it this time around. especially if Saha is back by then.

            Gardner is indeed a better option in my opinion.

            I forgot Blackpool play Chelsea in GW29. Mind you, that's not exactly the most difficult fixture on the calendar these days, is it!

    great stuff. just what today needed.
    i personally think the tottenham defence has become a little underrated due to their crazily long run of not getting a clean sheet. they look quite solid to me lately and he seemd quite popular @5.5mil at the start of the season so i see no reason why dawson shouldn't be appealing @5.1mil

    Good article again.
    Just about Mike Williamson - he was beyond awful in the game against Fulham and the first half against Arsenal. He was pretty solid against Birmingham however.

    He appears to be the main target for set-pieces too giving him good FPL potential. It remains to be seen whether he will keep his place though with the impending return of Taylor.

                  Actually, that's fair enough. I didn't read what kicked it all off.

                  If, however, you did say Fabregas and Rooney are playing in the same position this season, you are tragically wrong - as anyone who has watched either of them this season will attest.

                    lol i never said that! It's amazing how the 'debate' got twisted and changed as others joined in. The only initial reference to fabregas was when i said Rooney was dropping extremely deep this year, compared to last ,into the type of positions Fabregas finds himself. I never said they played in the same position because it's bloody obvious Rooney starts as an attacker and Fabs as a midfielder.

                    I'm pretty sure mine was Arsenal, United, Chelsea, City, Sp*rs, but the two oil-funded clubs could have been the other way round (I can't remember).

          yes,he is their main all-rounder but he bats very low in the order so if wickets don't fall early he may not come to bat and then u have rely on his dodgy bowling to get u points 😉

          I might stockpile my transfers then go mental one weekend and manufacture my own quadruple gameday where I play 44 players in about 8 hours

            I think it will pay to make a fair few transfers early on... Each of the better sides has an easy fixture, so ensuring you have plenty of players playing in the early matches will be important.

            I'll probably lose interest after about a day or two though. It looks like it will be seriously intense.

    In the event of two matches in a day, you can change your captain any time after the scheduled start of the first match to take effect for the second match - thus effectively having two captains for that day.

    added to that- being allowed to make transfers before each game.

    Seems like a lot of work
