With a break from Premier League action this weekend, we’re presented with some breathing space to allow us to take stock and assess strategies for success for the remaining Gameweeks.

This season has seen the evolution of template midfields and attacks with the same names rotation across thousands of Fantasy squads. As a result the defence has become a key area for differentials and while clean sheets have been hard to come by all season, the quest for defenders who can return attacking points and Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus, remains a key one.

In this latest Numbers Game article for Members, we take a look at the Gameweek OPTA statistics gathered over the past four Gameweeks to analyse those defenders who have offered the best potential in these areas.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Fabregas to Cahill this week and get RVP in Next week for arsenal cover. Good Move?

Surprisingly, only 0.5% of FPL managers have seen fit to bring him in thus far. I know it's early days yet but at this rate only 1 in 10 teams will have one of the leading midfielders in their ranks who has 4 out of his next 5 games at home and a double gameweek looming.

      Excellent!

I think he looks knackered. He needs less games rather than more. Having said that I will probably be bringing him in for Fabregas.

    Is it steve claridge commentating?No?
Drogba shoots just wide from 20 yards then whoever chips in.
"come on didier its the cup! smile". Well Didier was born in Africa it doesnt mean the same to him as it obviosly does to you. Nor does he have to show joy in order to be deemed effective.

He then says "if i was out there id leave one in him see he is really up for it".

The co commentator then clarifies " of course within the law"

This forced love in for the "magic of the cup " gets worse every year. 3rd cup for a reason. Ive see no difference in demeanor between any of the foreign players and the English/ Irish/ Scots etc.

I've decided to do big switch around of my team (swapping 10 players). But the new team would involve 2 arsenal players and a birmingham keeper, of whom none are playing in gw 28. The problem is I'll be playing top of the league...a plus however is that his highest scoring players are arsenal ones (besides nani and adam) such as walcott, RVP and arshavin. Is it best to change my team now or the day before week 29?

    Proposed team:

    Foster(Stockdale)
    Huth Coleman Kelly (Kolarov R.Johnson)
Nani Adam Walcott Meireles (Nolan or Downing)
    RVP Odemwingie Tevez

    Current Team:
    Hart (Kingson)
    Huth A.Cole Vidic (Bardsley Foley)
    Nani Adam Meireles Dempsey (N'Zogbia)
    Berbatov Odemwingie Gyan

I can either keep the current team, which may work with 3 players having a double GW. Or I could do the changes but put the 3 players who aren't playing on the bench?
I could make 1 transfer for gw 28 so I could increase one of the players by £1.1m

It has to be a wildcard right? But sounds like a head to head league so maybe they're trying to get the hits out of the way this week and have a clean shot at the leader. I'm confused πŸ™‚ These changes could have been made on the free WC unless that was used up early.

Yeah it is a wildcard. I used the other one the other week, but I had a big assignment due in the same week, so i couldn't really do any research into it.

I was thinking Stockdale as second keeper because he's one of the best at his price.

Oh yes I forgot about him, suppose I could squeeze out another £0.1m.
The first WC was used like in my 2nd week in the league (its a head to head going from feb till the end of the season). But I've got another one to use.
I think I'll just leave the team till gw 29, and just hope he doesn't swap van persie for rooney or something.

Everton are a joke, every time we take the ball forward they foul us. Coleman is such a little prick, kicking Ashley Cole as soon as he gets it but for such an poor footballer technically it's hardly surprising.

Drogba's cruciate was suddenly fine after a good 10 minutes whinge.

The commentator is a complete idiot, "Everton have completely dominated" no they haven't Cech hasn't had to make one save and Howard has had to make at least 3 good stops and also bring down Ramires when he was clear, Domination.

It wasn't a dive! and Howard didn't touch him, but you don't need to make contact for it to be a penalty..... Players don't just trip over their own feet like that.

Of course you don't need to make contact for it to be a penalty! If a keeper comes out diving, and the forward jumps to avoid him, and so loses the chance to score because he's been impeded, then it's a penalty.

              " jumps to avoid him"

You clearly haven't seen it, or have a clue what you are talking about, so i'd just stop. If he didn't have the touch of le rapiste he could have easily skipped round howard and tucked the ball away. Unfortunately he realised he does, so decided to stop his feet moving and dive like a sack of shynola. Hence the yellow.

You are not describing what happened there.

This is as I saw it... Howard slid in alongside (which is important as he was not in front of) Ramires, didn't make contact, Ramires thought contact was going to be made and fell to the ground.

Ramires did not move out of the way, he just all of a sudden stopped moving his legs.

I think he just misjudged the situation, and therefore dived.

Why do it? Especially after the summer and the WC just gone. English footballers never learn. Could see this coming a mile off after Wednesday night.

To be fair, if he's asked 'do you think Jack Wilshere is good?' then he's not going to say 'not as good as those Spaniards, yeesh, they're shit hot'.

He basically says Barcelona are better than Wales. It's fair enough really (only coz Ricketts is out, though).

the "England have bright future" has been doing the rounds since 2000 while the Spainairds, Italians , Brazilians have been queitly winning things.

You would think the Press and the players even just to stop being ridiculed so much would lay off it. I can see 2014 already and the hype. It will be like 2010 never happened.

I find it highly unlikely that when a young player emerges in spain, italy, brazil e.t.c that the media dont mention it/ask senior players opinions on them. I agree that the britiah media are a joke but what youre saying is just daft.

SSN are total Wilshere fanboi's lately. So many interviews with people have included questions about Wilshere.

He does look a right good prospect alright, but why can't they just let him develop without all the pressure? Baffling at times.
