Welcome to the first of our weekly community round-up articles which will pick out some of the best activity and hot topics generated by the Fantasy Football Scout community over the previous seven days. We will also cover the community leagues and tournaments that are taking place throughout the season. Those running community tournaments are urged to email me ahead of the new season at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk for inclusion in forthcoming community round-up articles.

Hottest Topics

The launch of HomeCrowd last week introduced the concept of ‘hot topics’ and ‘stickies’, a new way for the community to locate some of most interesting posts and discussions taking place. The current list of hot topics can be found in the widget in the right sidebar, whilst stickies in any article can be found by simply using the “sticky comments first” setting in the “sort comments by” dropdown below each article.

In our first week, we’ve already seen a good number of hot topics from the community, covering a wide range of fantasy football issues.

Statistics have been the focus for many, with the community keen to turn to their abacuses and spreadsheets months before the new numbers come our way. Amongst the pick of our hot topics is 3rd Turd’s Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Stats Home and Away Analysis which is broken down to bonus points, goals, assists, points per game, FPL points and minutes. An incredible achievement and deserving of a hottest topic gong.

Some age-old discussions about Fantasy games have also been given an airing. Mathmo has popped down to his lab to attempt to decipher just how much the game is down to luck or skill. His analysis based on the performance of so called ghosts teams was particularly impressive.

The form versus fixtures debate is one Al Pacino and his calculator has been getting to grips with. Read his analysis based on some of the FPL game’s biggest players here.

Elsewhere this week RoysCallerAnne also started whetting our appetite for the forthcoming fixture list announcement with a look at rotation and whether it’s actually overrated.

The community has also been able to go the extra mile with their in depth analysis of new managers and players coming to the Premier League for 2013/14. Dino’s look at Manuel Pellegrini’s track record was an eye-poppingly detailed analysis of City’s new boss.

Over the week we’ve also been putting out our own daily hot topics, asking for your views on a range of topics including cult players as well as hearing about your greatest fantasy football achievements. We’ve really enjoyed reading your responses.

Community Leagues

Community group FFS UEFA haven’t been resting on their laurels during the close season and have spent the time devising an intriguing transfer window simulation game, which involves 128 community members who are organised along Premier League team names. After the first round Cardiff have the honour of acquiring the highest valued goalkeeper Iker Casillas. For those looking to join the game the sign up details can be found here.

HomeCrowd Updates

A number of our overseas community members requested we tweak the time updates on the site. We listened and we acted. From today, community members can now go into their profile section and under “comment settings” they can find a choice of timezone to select. You can also now choose to see the time of a comment’s posting rather than how long ago it was posted – another popular recent request.

Feel free to keep the feedback, suggestions and community news coming my way via email at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Not a particularly easy game. The good teams often seem to take longer to warm up.

Probably because intricate passing moves need practice ,the weaker teams are all fired up and it dosent take much pracice to hoof the ball up the field

Henrikh Mkhitaryan, a 24 year old Armenian international. Plenty of goals in the Ukrainian League. Not so many in Champions League. If Liverpool are, as alleged, gonna pay £23m for this guy surely someone should investigate NESV for money laundering. Seriously. £23m for an Armenian international in the Ukrainian league. £8m tops. If he's that good why is he playing in Ukraine at 24 or is it the old Neymar "He didn't want to move even though he's had loads of offers" fandango 🙁

What do you guys think about an EPL All-Star Game at the end of the season following the American style of All Star Games featuring the 'best' players from baseball, American football, basketball teams? I think I would love it but at the end of the season unlike the Americans which occurs towards the end (I think).

It could be the top 24-30 players (maybe using the Football Writers selection or some other criteria) and managed by 2 managers selected as well. I think it would make a good showpiece.

Won't happen, money and other commitments, but would be a good idea.

In Ireland in our national games of Gaelic Football and Hurling, amateur sports, we pick All Star 15s in both. They go on holiday each year to the likes of US, Australia, Dubai and play a best of the rest selection and also promote the GAA abroad. Gaelic Athletic Association.

kiwis, we been shafted not a single live premier game will be on tv next year, with sky nz losing rights. instead we have to pay to watch online at

    http://premierleaguepass.com/

    Problem

    1) many not have net
    2) will eat into data plan
    3) Internet too slow in this country. Asians will be ok we will lag badly

Will get up to watch a live game and be sat staring at a frozen screen. Isubscrbe to mlb.com (baseball) so know what the lag can be like, and with millions watching man u at same time i fear the worst.

They have included NZ but their target market is asia , once again our slow internet with tiny data caps will ruin it

Puts any complaints here in UK into perspective! If the problem is NZ's slow net infrastructure then it sounds difficult to fix. What about some sort of satellite TV decoder to watch foreign (Asian?) channels? Also seem to recall hearing of "satellite internet" as an alternative source of bandwidth though no guarantees it's better.

A nice trip down memory lane: a report on the release of last season's fixture list, a year ago to the day.

"The first day is always crucial, how will a side begin? Man City will be the happiest as poor, newly-promoted Southampton travel up to the Champions. Apart from Arsenal, who face Sunderland, the other top sides have more difficult tasks... Man United, have a tough trip to Everton, a side that scuppered their title challenge in the run-in last season. Spurs also have it tough with an away game at Newcastle United, while Liverpool have a potentially troublesome encounter at the Hawthorns against WBA."

I forgot to use any of the 6 transfers for the UCL, but still get 58 points in final. 😎

I know I should've finished better since so few people played it, but still happy to finish in the top-100, and also win my ML.

But congratulations, Triggerlips. Here's another top performance from you. 🙂

Ah, cheers. After all, this was the first time in any Fantasy where I picked players whose names I have never heard before ... Oh wait, I do the same in MLSF 😀
The tourney ends at the right time, actually.

Thx, took a big gamble with 9 italians (+ isco and thiago)

Paid off though as had every goalscorer ,couldnt catch overall leader though
If only fioreze had taken those two great chances.

Was hoping for a write up from the scouts , but not even a mention.

Ah, still that was a nice little tournament for you.
My gameweek 3 WC killed me, 12 points in that week ... Though I think not using my 6 transfers in the final sort of helped me, I would have sold Bianchetti and Immobile if I used them.

Same here. I had Silva in my gw 1 team, and when we received the gw 2 WC i felt the need to change me team. Sold Silva. He mopped up the pts. I bought him back with my "real" WC.

I bought Dzeko the week after the scored 4 goals. He was going to score big vs Wigan. Mankini benched him.

                🙄

Think I'm gunna select a team this year that will be good for the first 2-3 weeks. Too much knee-jerking goes on the first couple weeks.

In reality, you should only bring in someone that's triple rising. Other than that, scoring is scattered in the beginning of the season.

Any game that allows mnger subs is a pain. No price increases, minutes played never displayed etc. only positive was how quick pts updated(not auto subs though).

I can't see it being any diff for the Wc in Brazil.

Are the FIFA games similar to the UEFA games? I hadn't played in 2010, so no idea.

And well, when you talk about fantasy games, I personally feel that the MLSF is the best game around. League tables updated within half an hour, clutter-free interface ... And also the attacking and defensive bonuses.

Triggerlips I feel your pain. Us NZers are going to have a very different FPL experience when we can't watch any of the games. Match of the day and 1 delayed game a week is simply horrible EPL coverage.

there's a few i've used that have worked quite well. however I can't remember the name of them. found em thanks to people on here though so if you just ask around you'll find a good site or two.

Last year it was pretty much a week after the fixtures came out that the DGW was confirmed. June 26th I think it was.

hey LR, how was your trip?

very true. player prices and new signings will definitely change things though. but i'm sure we'll get a hundred or so premature RMT's..... *sigh*

Spain Captain Thiago Alcantara Hattrick v Italy U21 Final... Looks like this guy has real potential,

Do we think Barca would let him leave? Or are they grooming him as a replacement for Xavi/other?

Would be great to see him in Prem, I know we are after him (utd) and I would personally love to see him at Utd!

        🙂 Me too,

Him, and a Winger who can actually play football....

Sadly as TW says it looks as though he is improving/showing his class just at the wrong time, i think Strootman is still the more likely mid we will sign, and i wont complain if that happens either!!

I can't see Barca letting him go. he's already class and will only continue to improve. he and/or cesc are our Xavi replacements. Tito just needs to find a way to give them more playing time

I read something that his younger brother is quite good and some people think may even become better than him.

funny thing though is his brother has chosen to play for Brazil over Spain

Probably sensible given the depth of talent in Spain, he is young and wants to get a chance to play International football Brazil may be an easier team to break into at the moment...
