Our pre-season projections and Rate My Team tool are almost ready to go live in the Members Area. Over the past week we’ve seen a number of significant signings, notably at the Etihad, that have delayed our first set of numbers but, with the market seemingly settled for 24-hours, we’re now very close to going live with both, albeit with perhaps a big Gareth Bale caveat on the way.
Once again this season, the projections are based on the Rate My Team statistical model, developed by “Professor” Chris Atkinson, who some of you may have got to know via last season’s ScoutCast.
The Rate My Team model is built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has an attack and defence rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.
In the next day or so we will be publishing full projections for every Premier League player, plotting their total points, goals, assists etc for the entire season. These will include short-term projections offering a view of the opening six Gameweeks.
The projection tables will be fully sortable and you can assess FPL points per million value to help you run the rule over those crucial budget purchases.
In addition to the Projections, the full Rate My Team tool will also be going live shortly.
This can be used in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. It includes a players table that can filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.
However, this is just one part of the functionality. Rate My Team can also be used to build a team from scratch, analyse your existing FPL lineup, recommend captains, vice captains your bench and bench order and allow you to model your future transfers.
The “Professor” and I will be creating some new movies explaining how the Projections and Rate My Team work in the next few days. Look out for them over the weekend and into next week.
A reminder that memberships for the coming season, giving you access to both the projections and Rate My Team tool, along with many other features, are available for the pre-season price of £12.50. Click here for further details, including an array of preview movies to demonstrate what’s on offer.
