Following on from yesterday’s preview movie, which highlighted the Projections and Rate My Team’s Player List feature at work, we now cast an eye over the Build My Team component.

Once again, I got together with Rate My Team’s creator, Chris Atkinson, to demonstrate and talk you through how this feature works in practice. The movie highlights how you can piece together a pre-season lineup and how, once the season is underway, Rate My Team can help not only with transfer strategies but also with selection dilemmas such as the captaincy and bench order.

In the third part of the Rate My Team movie previews we’ll be talking at length on how the tool works behind the scenes, including a full run through of the steps we take to keep it maintained and providing numbers that can help with your lineups.

Just a note for those looking to add their team id’s in order to retrieve their lineups in Rate My Team – as the movie explains, this feature is not available until squads are locked down for Gameweek 1 and made public. Otherwise, of course, we’d all be able to view each other’s teams right now by just adding ID’s into the tool. Rest assured, once Gameweek 1’s deadlines has passed, you will be able to add and save your team ID to transfer your current lineup into the tool for tinkering.

Fantasy Football Scout Memberships are now available for the pre-season price of £12.50.

What is Rate My Team?
Rate My team is a statistical model built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has an attacking and defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

How Can It Help Me?
If you’re a member you can use the Rate My Team tool in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. As you would have seen in our first movie, you have a players table that can be filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

However, this is just one part of the functionality. Rate My Team can also analyse your existing FPL lineup, recommend captains, vice captains, your bench and bench order, and allow you to model your future transfers. You’ll see this at play in the movie above.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Is anyone planning to just go without RVP this year? If you genuinely think he is overpriced at 14.0m. I think it is a viable tactic but you need to have nerves of steel.

If he bags a brace first game against Swansea, he will be 14.3 by GW2 and if he scores again in the next two (big, televised games), god knows what price he will be going into a home game against Palace.

If bale leaves, i think it opens the door to Rvp.
Most team who had bale and didnt have Rvp had Walcott and hazard. Which other big hitting midfielder sticks out? Think I might get mirallas and use the extra 4.5 million to upgrade benteke to Rvp.

Even if you picked those 3. That's 3 million saved. Only 2 to find.

Personally I am not keen on the first two. Michu might come into my thoughts after Swansea terrible star and to see how him and bony fit in.

Yeah I'll be going without him at least until GW3, when I'll reevaluate. No real master plan to get him back in, but we'll see, WCing is an option I guess

That is a different thing, just sensible playing the fixtures. I am talking about a decision that he is just not worth that price whatever the fixtures and building your side without him accordingly.

By the way, what would be your plan to get RVP in if his price is, say 14.6 by GW3/4?

Yeah I'm not taking the stance that I just won't consider him at all this season, that's a pretty bad strategy for any player imo, but yeah I said, no real plan. I guess its a big gamble if he rises to that much, but I'd probably have to downgrade a striker to Anelka or something and maybe downgrade a mid priced midfielder to something around bench fodder. That much surgery would probably require a WC, but we'll see what to do when that happens.

One thing about price rises though with a player that expensive is that its not as easy to get them in as you have to use two transfers, whereas with Michu basically everyone who was playing just downgraded a 7-8 midfielder.

I'm almost certain he'll score against Swansea, but his price just isn't worth it. If Moyes convinces Wazza to stay I very much doubt he'll play deep again. He will play back-up striker to RVP but he should still play every game tucked behind RVP.

well IF Rooney is playing more advanced it's a huge option

            Rooney + Aguero = 21.5

You'd need a 6.5 striker to go with RvP

Our first few fixtures also help as it means we have plenty of time to see how things are working.

yup, I have said this a few times when people have brought up this quote. Apparently Rooney wad angry at this until Moyes rang him to explain exactly as you just did.

From what I understand, his desire to leave stems not from that but from the comments of Ed Woodward.

There is already a shortage of reliable captaincy options and IF Bale leaves then Van Persie will justify his price. Apart from Aguero ,Suarez, Mata and maybe Hazard who else could you captain on a regular basis . I think Walcott could step up big time this year and maybe Lukaku if he can nail down a spot

Why for instance do the minutes of the three promoted goalies vary , yet they are more than all the other keepers

I thought its two different tools for projections. One is based on OPTA etc and the other is from the Professor.

The differences are due to rounding. The projections are given to only one decimal place, whereas RMT gives accuracy to two decimal places. Therefore, RMT totals are more accurate.

They are the same numbers, just rounded differently.

                  Hope that helps.

Been tinkering with an RVP-less team. Think it may be the way to go.

    G: Mignolet / Lewis
    D: Coleman / Mertesacker / Collins / Turner (NOR) / Parr
    M: Bale / Hazard (c) / Walcott / Mirallas / Thomas
    F: Sturridge / Lukaku (vc) / Kone

I think Lukaku's a good punt for GW1 - safety of the DGW means he will surely start at least one game, and a fast start may make him the no 1 striker for CHE.

I'm not sure about taking 3 CHE players into the GW3 blank. I'm reluctant to reserve transfers so early in the season - in my experience, it's better to keep the flexibility to react to emerging players early season.

Any advise on this squad so far?

    Boruc/£4.5, Begovic/£5.5

    Mertesacker/£5.5, Evra/£6.5, Turner/£4.5, Parr/£4.0, Chester/£4.0

    Walcott/£9.5, Hazard/£9.5, Bale/£12.0, Mirallas/£7.5, Thomas/£4.5

    JRodriguez/£6.0, Sturridge/£9.0, van Wolfswinkel/£7.0

    I'm still left with £0.5

    Thanks!

My main concern is that is takes an extra hit to sort out. Not sure Tekkers will score enough to break even on it.

Currently on Lukaku, Anelka, Aguero. If I went with Tekkers I'd likely swap Aguero in for Lukaku GW2 and look to move Tekkers on in GW3 (with Hazard)

We have the money now, and bids for Suarez and Higuain show ambition but we're also stronger than what we were at this point last year.

Once Wenger was able to build a strategic team without RVP, we had as good a record in the league as United.

    So stop talking nonsense

Don't think you can just take a small sample space like that. If you extrapolate Liverpool's record after Studge's signing or City's record with Aguero/Tevez starting, you'll see they would have won the league too

something has to give at Bayern

Gustavo is off and Javi will play at CB as he has previously and fits with how Pep used Mascherano. Then you just have an insane quality of rotation options and if injury hits.

Plus Muller and Gotze play further forward anyway.

Not making a bid does not involve any action. Making a bid does so if there has been one and there is no evidence then you can take whatever the tabloids write with a pinch of sale. This isn't difficult to understand.

I'm not saying the transfer won't happen but the non-stop posting about it like its already happened is not particulalry helpful advice on a fantasy football site is it?

Indeed, but IF that has been offered. Spurs might want a player thrown in too or something. Very rare the first offer is taken.

      A) Maybe there hasn't been an offer
      B) Buy more time to seal other signings to fill Bale's void
      C) Raise the bid as seeing how Madrid might be desperate
      D) Daniel Levy's daughter has a man crush on Bale

I feel I need to clarify some information I posted yesterday on Bale. Take it as you will.

A well respected ITK on a Spurs forum simply posted a 🙁 on the Bale thread. Off the back of this, Towelie has been spamming that Bale is off. At the time I said that this was a possible interpretation but the only fact one could derive from this is that there had been bad news. It would now appear that Bale, who had been happy to stay one more season, has been told by RM that it is "now or never" and he asked asked to leave, refusing to sign a new contract on which the major terms had already been agreed in principle.

There is no evidence that he is going to make trouble but the situation is more precarious than it was before the weekend. In terms of bids, the numbers being bandied around in the press are massively inflated and the fact is RM don't have the cash to make the sort of bid Levy will listen to.

I expect a continued media assault from RM and they will no doubt be pressuring Bale to hand in a transfer request.

Who knows how it will play out but I am still hopeful we could see Gareth lining up against Palace for one last season.

    As template as they come?

    Mignolet, Lewis
Luiz, Collins, Clyne, M Turner, Chester
    Bale, Hazard, Walcott, Snodgrass, Thomas
    Aguero, Lukaku, Anelka

Plan to get RVP in gw4 by the way..

    Foster, Boruc
    Collins, Murner, Clyne, Burner, Chester
    Bale, Hazard, Mirallas, Snodgrass, Thomas
    RVP, Sturridge, JRod

Seems a common move, but should I do Sturridge -> Lukaku for the DGW and to see how Sturridge's injury plays out?

Why not ? an assist is only worth one point less than a goal even if he does not pick up enough baps he could be an amazing option if he is nailed on as number 10 and Caz moves to the wing.

Heard the same arguments against Silva and I think Wilshire was only given the chance to play in an advanced role since end of last season. He was obviously not going to click at once not saying he will be new Fabregas but he he could potentially be a steal

There was a stat not too far into last season that Pepe Reina had more Premier League assists than Wilshere.

Don't normally do RMTs but im struggling a bit...

Mignolet - Davis (i get there is risk here)

Coleman - Mert - Clyne - Collins - Turner (Car)

    Bale - Walcott - Silva - Hazard - 4.5

    Lukaku - Sturridge - Anelka

Loads of doubts... liking the defence less over the pre season. Dont know if coleman will actually be oop. Mirallas should be in mid. I think silva is the best city cover, but hes a rotation risk. And that 100 million bid is enough to turn anyone's head surely...?

Are you planning to get in Rvp? You'll struggle to with that midfield, IMO. Looks decent though and covers all the good teams.

Thanks nick, delay responding to ya - duty calls at home. Skipping rvp and if he forces me to, ill wildcard or take hits. Not looking at him tho. Struggling with 3rd dgw player also - think youre right and will try to shoehorn someone in.

That's a very good team. I wouldn't be too concerned. Defense could be streamlined.

I have similar fund distribution up front, but my defense reads: Cole, Alcaraz, Collins, Turner, Parr.

I'd say the double Chelsea GW will pay off with Cole, and then you can opt for the cheapest City defender for GW 2. Use those funds to upgrade if necessary.

I know many people disagree with me, but I like having 2 4.0s because the chances of them coming on are slim, and if they're starters, they'll be worth a few points if called upon.

Tonev is a great punt imo. Could be this years Puncheon if Villa start scoring. He has a very good long distance shot, could get assists too if Benteke/ Agbonlahor get onto any parried shots or through balls
