Following on from yesterday’s preview movie, which highlighted the Projections and Rate My Team’s Player List feature at work, we now cast an eye over the Build My Team component.

Once again, I got together with Rate My Team’s creator, Chris Atkinson, to demonstrate and talk you through how this feature works in practice. The movie highlights how you can piece together a pre-season lineup and how, once the season is underway, Rate My Team can help not only with transfer strategies but also with selection dilemmas such as the captaincy and bench order.

In the third part of the Rate My Team movie previews we’ll be talking at length on how the tool works behind the scenes, including a full run through of the steps we take to keep it maintained and providing numbers that can help with your lineups.

Just a note for those looking to add their team id’s in order to retrieve their lineups in Rate My Team – as the movie explains, this feature is not available until squads are locked down for Gameweek 1 and made public. Otherwise, of course, we’d all be able to view each other’s teams right now by just adding ID’s into the tool. Rest assured, once Gameweek 1’s deadlines has passed, you will be able to add and save your team ID to transfer your current lineup into the tool for tinkering.

Fantasy Football Scout Memberships are now available for the pre-season price of £12.50.

What is Rate My Team?
Rate My team is a statistical model built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has an attacking and defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

How Can It Help Me?
If you’re a member you can use the Rate My Team tool in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. As you would have seen in our first movie, you have a players table that can be filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

However, this is just one part of the functionality. Rate My Team can also analyse your existing FPL lineup, recommend captains, vice captains, your bench and bench order, and allow you to model your future transfers. You’ll see this at play in the movie above.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I am on the lookout for a cheap defender. I am really hoping Martin Kelly comes back well for Liverpool, if not Luna seems to be my choice. Any other suggestions for the Sky Sports game.

I'm struggling a bit with the strikeforce myself but if Sturridge is fit for the start of the season he seems a better option than Aspas. Of course he's more expensive, J Rod is popular on here and frees up funds. I like the look of Bony but he has tough fixtures. You could also look at Benteke/Weimann but I'm wary of Villa players for the DGW.

I am actually really surprised that Jovetic and Negredo are the same price. Negredo is a much more proven goalscorer, and is just at his peak. Jovetic might be one for the future, but if I had to choose one for this season, Negredo all the way. I just hope he starts most games.

I happen to think he will be first choice. As I said, he is more prolific, and if they had no plans to play him, why sign him for so much? Jovetic is only 23, so they're under less pressure to play him, if that makes sense.

I know. The funny thing is, everyone expected Negredo to be higher by about 0.5-1.0 then when they went in the same, it never really changed much in terms of making negredo get into everyone's sides. The rmt tool somehow thinks jovetic is better. I am on Lukaku week 1, negredo straight after.

For me it means dropping Bale to Santi (giving me double Arsenal coverage with Walcott)

Saving 1m for Cole - Baines in GW2

Then perhaps using 0.5 to go Guzan -> Mignolet

The remainder to fix up any other holes I see and have some flexibility in my team.

I just wanted to say I thought the voting system was working quite well.
People were putting real effort into making larger stat filled posts with meaningful insights and it was helping the site. It certainly helped me.

Dont fall foul of a few trolls.
IP ban them or make the votes only visible to members as most trolls arent members and most members arent trolls.

I was going to make this a new post but thought it would be too excessive so am just responding on yours. With regards to the voting, i would do this:

Keep the badges, but just hide the downvotes from view so only mods can see them. That way they can still be alerted to when a post breaches t&c's and remove it. Meaning a post will always have a minimum of 0 rating, but mods can see if it needs to be dealt with. Furthermore posters won't keep mentioning how they're being downvoted, causing arguments, however Jonty/Mark and co can still see who's abusing the system and deal with them. It would still allow the good posts which get hulked and discussed to be easily accessible. Would that be too hard to implement?

But you could argue that the downvotes are useful, too ... I know some see them as "bullying", but I see them as indicators of the community's displeasure. This could change their future posting, as well.

        Carrot and the stick.

Then again, I think the voting thing is stupid, useless, and annoying and should be scrapped outright.

That's true. But there's no other way really. You can get indicators of the community's displeasure by noticing how they post towards certain posters. The bad out weighs the good when it's do with the downvoting system. I think certain elements of the voting thing are wrong and should be tweaked/looked at, but it's helped with the quality of posts and that's the main aim really i think. With my suggestion also, people can still have light hearted fun/banter without getting abuse for it via the downvoting.

Most trolls are ignored by most people ... so there's an unspoken displeasure, there.

Now, I personally think that there's little-to-no positives that have come out of the voting ... it hasn't encouraged helping others/RMTs as most RMTers never reply, let alone up-vote.

And the sycophantic, look-at-me posts are, imo, dull and usually walls of meaningless text.

But I think trolls complaining about being downvoted is a delicious irony.

Mid is obviously amazing and give you good coverage for the big teams, however you forward group is unproven Lukaku has rotation risk, Jrod will most likely be playing a deeper forward position behind Lambert (still good value, will produce large number of assist, I'm not sure how many goals he will come up with). Giroud could be good value, but if Arsenal sign someone could be a very expensive bench player.

imo I would start Boruc over Mannone.

I like the team. Probably the best RVP-less team I have seen on these threads.

    Matt Jarvis, people?

Last season wasn't good. I admit it. Just look at his score.

    HOWEVER...

Firstly, he received two scores in the previous two years which were both over the 130 mark. While that was under different management, surely the threat of Andy Carroll headers, if Carroll can keep fit, offers a chance for improvement towards previous scores?

Secondly, West Ham have a nice start to the season.

Thirdly, he's shown promise in pre-season against fairly competitive opposition.
    http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11685/8837700/pre-season-friendly-west-ham-defeat-hamburg-3-1-as-matt-jarvis-shines

5.5m - that's not budget basement but, if you're like me and you have a budget striker like Anelka or J-Rod, he could be a good answer for rotation.

    So, Jarvis, worth a punt?

None of the 7m forwards have convinced me enough to part with the money.

I remember feeling pretty damn confident of 2 Chelsea cleanies this time last year and look how that turned out.

I'm gonna boldly predict that Chelsea will not keep 2 clean sheets.

Just in case you havent got enough to do Mark 🙂
Any chance of an early preseason Scoutcast ?
I'd love to hear how your teams are shaping up, RVP or no RVP, transfer rumours, essentials etc.
Might be interesting to see how it compares to your actual starting team in a few weeks when the dust has settled.

      Please.

I'm not sure I could coax Granville into that so early....not sure if he's engaged Fantasy Football mode yet - he's been playing the Ashes game, I think.

They've done it the past few years, if I remember right Mark accidentally revealed his team to Granny before the deadline live on the podcast a couple of years ago.

Whoops, not sure how early you want it, pre-season one is usually out in the week before I think, and I'm not sure how much value there would be in one at this stage when so much could still change.

Yeh this week preferably to see how things change and which transfers they think will happen and stuff. Doesnt have to be as long as usual, just a skype one maybe.

You can see it, too. What a show those two could put on - not sure how much service they'll provide but certainly shots per game will be worth seeing.

I think Pellegrini's faviourite team for the season will be 4222:

      Hart
      Zabeleta Kompany Nasty Clichy
      Yaya Fernanidhno
      Navas Silva
      Aguero Negredo

However I believe rotation will hit hard therefore the safest option is probably Silva

Yeah, me too. I backed Johnson all year and it just never happened. I think at one point, on the "explosion imminent" charts, he had the most shots of any Premier League player without scoring.
