Nikola Zigic remains an injury doubt ahead of tomorrow night’s clash with Everton at Goodison but was expected to train today and undergo an assessment.

The Serbian striker sat out of Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat to West Brom with a groin injury sustained in training and aggravated in the warm-up, with Alex McLeish advised not to risk his target man, despite Birmingham’s need for his sizeable influence in the defeat to their local rivals.

According to the the latest from the club, Birmingham will examine the Zigic situation again after training this afternoon. McLeish had this to say…

“We’ll have a look at Zigic this afternoon because he is on the borderline. Zigic got worse as the second half progressed (against West Brom). He says it (his groin) was nipping and aching away and the doc said it would have been a risk to put him on. He was a bit better yesterday and he is going to try and train this afternoon and he’s going to do something with the physios and we’ll see if he’s ready tomorrow.”

This will come as semi-encouraging news for the many Fantasy Managers who invested in the Serb ahead of Birmingham’s double fixtures in gameweek 29. Over 84,000 Fantasy Premier League managers brought in the striker prior to the gameweek deadline.

Elsewhere, Martin Jiranek has shaken off a thigh injury and is back in contention, while both Liam Ridgewell and Roger Johnson are expected to overcome groin and calf problems. It’s not all good news for McLeish however, with Barry Ferguson and Craig Gardner both remaining sidelined with rib and thigh injuries respectively.

The Birmingham boss would seem likely to ring the changes given the nature of the West Brom setback with Seb Larsson and Jiranek pushing for recalls – Zigic would appear to be a certain starter if he comes through his assessment.

As for Everton, they will be without skipper Phil Neville after he suffered a hamstring injury in the weekend win over Newcastle. Johnny Heitinga will be expected to come into a holding midfield role to take his place. That may well be the only change to a winning lineup, with Seamus Coleman set to be on the bench once again having been rested for the St James’ Park trip. Victor Anichebe is David Moyes’ only other injury concern – he was used from the bench in Saturday’s 2-1 win.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Blackburn is definitely the least deserving of being relegated of all the teams mentioned. Wigan, Wolves and Birmingham would be nice.

Rodwell also started on Saturday. He could shift with Coleman coming in - depends how ambitious Moyes is feeling. With a 4-4-2 though, I think he'd go for Heitinga holding.

        I also own Coleman 🙂

i think coleman was rested rather than dropped. Could be wrong of course. Heitinga played def mid earlier in the season and was a shambles, I think rodwell will get the nod there.

Yeah, Coleman was rested rather than dropped but it's whether Moyes will change a winning side. As he elected to introduce Heitinga at Newcastle, you can argue that he'll stick with that having seen out the game with it. I hope not.

So what are people doing on the Metro European FF game with regards to Nani? Are you going to leave him in the starting line up for next weeks fixtures and hope he plays or take him out? Risky, because if he plays he could pick up a decent haul.

No worries. Yeah, beginning from Turbo, they started introducing differences.

Ryu got a 1 hit knockdown on his hurricane kick, which I don't like, and Ken got a more powerful throw, and his dragon punch has a markedly more horizontal swing.

Roll on to Super Street Fighter IV, and for some time they've had different super moves for some time, along with a raft of basic moves (Ken has some really powerful kicks with big reach, but leave you a bit open)

And then we've got evil Ryu and I think there was mad Ken in one too.

Lampard & Essien is a better midfield partnership than Barca's Xavi and Iniesta.

Lampard has scored more goals with 206 career goals, more assists with 107 in his career and has a better pass completion rate with 1400 passes per season, than Xavi & Iniesta combined: playthegame.timesonline.co.u...

Scholes and Giggs have both created and scored far more goals for Man United than Barca's Xavi & Iniesta. So has Fabregas for Arsenal and Gerrard for Liverpool.

Iniesta hasn't even come in the top 3 of the FIFA world player of the year and Xavi only 3rd. But Lampard has come 2nd in both Fifa world player of the year and Ballon d'Or in 2005.

You sir, use statistics much as a drunk uses a lamp post.

Not really, but facts and figures alone odn't really make for a conclusive argument. There are factors you could have omitted - Lampard being at the end of his career certainly skews the career goals.

Also, because Barcelona are a a passing team, overall they probably have a higher pass completion rate than any of those teams, because they don't rely on one central playmaker, ala Gerrard, Lampard, Arteta, Fabregas etc etc etc.

There is no real way to find out who is "better"; even if you directly transplanted one player for another, it would take time to mould into the team and its ways. Xavi and iniesta have many talents, and Barcelona is a very good place for them to utilise their skills.

Iniesta actually finished 2nd in the World Player of the Year thing this season, and there are at least 15 players each season who easily betters 1400 successful passes a season.

Couldn't be arsed to do much research but April 11th last season Xavi had already made 2046 successfull passes with a completion rate of 91%.

You're obviously trolling and made me lose 5 minutes of my life doing research and writing this, gold star!

I've got Zigic for the second game, but don't want him to play really, unless he's going to score big. I've got 8 points coming from auto subs, if he doesn't play. I doubt he's going to pull in more than 8 points, so I hope McCleish decides he's too dodgy to risk. Worst case would be Zigic on for 20 minutes, for a whopping 1 pointer! lol

          True.
It's all part of my plan to grow my own chillies tomatoes, lettuce, rocket and peppers. Peppers are mentally expensive over here and we always use a lot. I think middle age has descended quickly on me 😐

Too bloody right. €100 disappears in no time on a night out, shopping is a fortune etc etc etc I could moan all day about it.
Makes it worse that I know it costs half as much if that back home in the good eld North of England.

All Freeview boxes should get the same channels, it just reads whatever signal it gets.

I bought one from Argos for £30 back in the day (£10 more than the cheapest because it didn't look like a piece of shit) but I ended up giving it away because every TV you buy now has it built in.

And I don't even use the ones built into the TV O__O

Get a second hand one mate, they're obsolete already.

Only if you really need the cash elsewhere as there is a faint odour of rotation hanging around him as Houllier is a bit mental. Downing is probably just as good and not too much more I guess.

they dont have a midweek fixture now til the end of teh season, just one game each weekend after this month so he wont have to be rested

also houllier now seems set on the 451 and after scoring 6 in the last 2 games albrighton has started he may keep his place this time

Someone mentioned it last week, so I just had a look again now. Has already made one this week too. Go on, I know you'll take a look!

weird. Taking a 1000 point hit when you're in the top 100.

      If I didn't have / couldn't afford Rooney, I'd seriously consider it.

            shocking indeed

can't see it happening with some if their injury doubts, thinkin 1-0 or something for everton, zigic might help a bit

I have Howard, Coleman, Ridgewell, Arteta and Zigic. So all things considered I haven't a clue what score I want. I suppose 0-0 could be the best result so long as Coleman actually plays 60min+

I've lost some respect for Jermaine after this:-

    http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11945_6801584,00.html

What happened to working hard in training and forcing your way into the team ?

2 goals this season and he wants to just walk into a team with VdV, Pav and Crouch or he'll leave ? Joker.

So you still had respect for him after handing in a transfer request 10 minutes after West Ham were relegated?
