Cardiff upset the odds and battle back to grab the points at City’s expense in their first home match in the Premier League. Andre Villas-Boas shifts to 4-3-3 for the visit of Swansea, while Michael Laudrup tinkers with his forward options once again:

The Game Changer

An emphatic 4-0 win at home to Newcastle on Monday evening saw Fantasy managers loading up on City’s attacking assets ahead of a trip to Cardiff. Plenty anticipated a walkover in light of the Magpies mauling – almost 65,000 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) snapped up Sergio Aguero while over 76,000 opted for Edin Dzeko ahead of this afternoon’s showdown in Wales.

Compared to the visitors’ front two, Fraizer Campbell was no more than an afterthought but the former United frontman showed his top-flight credentials by bagging a brace and assist to send Pellegrini’s side back to Manchester with their tails between their legs. Andreas’ Cornelius’ return to fitness saw the big Dane warm the bench and although he’ll be pushing for a start, it’s Campbell who remains in the driving seat for the lone striker role, with his cut-price appeal (5.5 in FPL) bound to get the bandwagon rolling over the next few days.

The Underused

A shoulder injury whilst on international duty over the summer kept Aron Gunnarsson far from Fantasy radars as the season approached.

Those looking for a route into Malky Mackay’s midfield had mainly focussed on Kim Bo-Kyung, after the Korean notched three times over the summer but, having recovered in time for the Bluebirds’ final pre-season friendly, Gunnarsson looks a vital component of the Cardiff central midfield three.

Sitting alongside Kim and new boy Gary Medel, the Icelandic international opened his account for the season to serve Fantasy managers a reminder of the attacking threat which produced eight goals and six assists in the Championship last time out. Craig Bellamy, Kim and set-piece taker Peter Whittingham have proven far more popular picks but with a mere 0.3% ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), the 5.0 priced Gunnarsson could be another differential contender worthy of our consideration.

The Selection Poser

While the starting XIs at the Cardiff City Stadium were pretty much as anticipated, Manuel Pellegrini’s decision to replace Edin Dzeko with Alvaro Negredo midway through the second-half will have the Bosnian’s owners on edge ahead of the weekend home clash against Hull. Dzeko’s superb opener maintained his recent form but it was perhaps telling that Sergio Aguero was retained for the full 90 minutes against the Bluebirds; Negredo’s late goal will also give his manager food for thought as City look to recover from today’s unexpected stumble.

Andre Villas-Boas and Michael Laudrup gave Fantasy managers plenty to mull over at the Lane. The Spurs boss shifted to a 4-3-3 formation and demoted Gylfi Sigurdsson to the subs bench after just one game, with Etienne Capoue joining Mousa Dembele and Paulinho in the centre of the park. Villas-Boas’ spending over the next few days will likely hint at his preferred formation over the season ahead but for Sigurdsson, the signs are already looking ominous. While Andros Townsend staked a claim for inclusion with another strong display on the right, he, too, will be bracing himself for increased competition over the next few days, with two or three new faces anticipated.

Swansea’s Europa League duties continue to affect Laudrup’s selection policy up top. Wilfried Bony was once again named on the bench, with Michu preferred as the lone striker and Jonjo Shelvey tucking in behind – the Ivorian could be set for a Fantasy exodus if this continues for much longer.

    Boruc (Migs)
Konscielny / Coleman / Turner (Ivanovic / Olson)
    Walcott / Silva / Coutinho / Mirales / Koren
    Sturridge / Soldato (Anelka)

    Worth downgrading Mirales to Barkley
Then Anelka to Giroud for a hit???

Sounds decent, I'm personally giving Mirallas time to prove himself, he isn't owned by a lot of people so his value isn't likely to go down, however Anelka does need to go and Giroud is probably a good long term option. Be careful though you may leave yourself with 3 starting midfielders somewhere down the line.

I believe (could be wrong) that holding the right heavy hitting midfielders when they detonate will be the key to this season.

      Not RVP.

Other strikers look set to compensate.

Really ballsed up my cheapies this year, so I think I'm going to have to keep him for next week and start him, as Brayford isnt getting a look in either. So, so tough to justify a tranny on the cheapies at this stage, I'll probably just wait till the wildcard to get rid

I'm certainly taking an "every point is precious approach" and unless I can see a Hazard or Terry replacement outscoring Williams by 5+, is it worth the extra transfer.

May as well get rid of just one of the CHE boys and have a bench of Benteke/Terry or Hazard and Chester.

Come to think of it, even Chester may sneak a precious point...

Ugh, more people sacrificing sense for the sake of value, I really don't think its as vitally important as it everyone on here has come to believe.

Unless the rise is going to prevent you getting him later, why wildcard in a player with no fixture when you'll be able to take a gamble for the WC and then transfer them out for Lamps if you really want?

Really? He's scored 2 legitimate goals in 31 minutes of football. Dzeko hasn't done that well despite the hype.

Dzeko was Man of the match on Monday and scored a nice goal today, Had crap service most of the game today, I don't get you.

He missed 8 chances on Monday. Yes his overall play caused problems but we are talking about an awful Newcastle performance. Despite the limited service today he should have been through on goal in the first half had he controlled Yaya's pass.

Missed 8 chances, Do those 8 chances include the very decent saves that krul made to deny him two goals. This is the issue , yesterday when people were talking about Benteke they said he was really unlucky, denied by two great Mignolet saves, But when its Dzeko its different, it misses. I dont know if thats down to people disliking city or what but if your gonna talk about stats its better to talk about them in detail rather than just quoting figures imo.

Also, if your talking about the pass I'm thinking of when he was at the lhs of the 18 yard box, he looked up expecting the pass, yaya delayed and then slipped it through with way too much pace . I missed the highlights but i assume thats what you were referring to. The service he got today was crap,

Yes, Krul made some good saves but Dzeko really should have buried at least one of the chances. I can't remember the exact details now to go into it but I watched the game. The 8 chances doesn't include the time he fell over instead of shooting.

As for the Yaya pass, it had to be played with pace and I really think Dzeko should have controlled it. Overall the service today was crap.

He did fluff a couple agreed but Krul saved Newcastle a couple of times I seen and I wasnt really paying too much attn. i find it strange that Dzeko gets singled out when for example Aguero was terrible today. His goalscoring rate is excellent and on here he is 7.5 instead of 11. No doubt he will be dropped before Aguero does but that wouldnt make sense to me as things stand atm.

I think at this stage of the season it's really not worth the risk. Can Pellegrini really justify dropping Dzeko after what happened today? I know Negredo scored, but the collapse after Dzeko went off may just save him, plus Dzek took his goal really nicely. That being said, I'm not going with Dzeko (c) either, will probably plump for Silva

Subbing Dzeko can't really be blamed for the loss, Hart and Zab didn't cover themselves in glory. The Dzeko goal was good but he didn't do anything else of note.

33.3333%. Unless Jovetic is fit, then it would be 25%. Bottom line is that any one of the 4 could start. Aguero was poor today, The other 2 scored, No one knows Pellegrini that well. Anyone who says for sure is just talkin crap.

Already done my FT this week, team is:

    Mignolet
    Coleman Zab Collins (Shaw Whittaker)
    Silva Walcott Mirallas Snodgrass (Cabral)
    Aguero Soldado Sturridge

Would you take a hit to get rid of Snodgrass or Mirallas for anyone or stick?!
