The Community Round Up

A certain Dutchman, misfiring premium midfielders and the Fantasy Premier League Bonus Points System’s (BPS) love affair with centre-backs dominated discussions among the Fantasy Football Scout community this week. We also catch up with the latest goings-on in the community leagues taking place this season.

Hottest Topics

A look at the top ten FPL points scorers  does not contain a single midfielder; a worrying development for those Fantasy managers used to premium midfielders dominating the game. The fate of expensive midfielderS has been a key discussion this week with QPR Expects…Glory among the pessimists who believe the premium midfield era is over and it is time to invest in centre backs instead. Arsene’s Boys, however, is more optimistic, pointing out that we are just two games into the season. In addition many of last year’s star midfielders such as Juan Mata and Santi Cazorla failed to perform early on, he notes.

As premium midfielders fail to excite us there is now plenty of interest in centre-backs. But is their dominance of the bonus points shortlived? Jamsiep, wonders whether we are experiencing a false dawn, due to a lower than average number of goals being scored this season. His excellent post suggests that centre-backs may not be so fortunate when the goal rate picks up.

Still on the same subject, SAAB has been considering that many of the league’s most attacking teams simply do not have a suitable midfield option for Fantasy managers. He points out that teams such as Tottenham, Manchester United, Southampton and Aston Villa currently just have forwards worth our consideration.

If Wayne Rooney stays at Manchester United could he match Robin Van Persie’s expected returns? King Nemanja’s  analysis of Rooney and RVP performances together last season provides interesting reading for those looking for a cut-price root into Manchester United’s attack.

Owning Van Persie obviously makes captaincy decisions much easier. But for those looking to mix up their armband selection, Impressive Tackle has compiled this handy long term guide to the best non-RVP captains available  all the way up to Gameweek 20.

Finally, Isacki has been taking a look  at price changes and reckons it is far tougher for players to rise in price this season. His analysis also takes a look at the time price changes kick in and how ownership level and flags influence price falls.

Community Leagues

Heels Over Head’s Worst to First 2Million+Club league, which is open to anyone who has an overall rank below 2 million during one of the first five Gameweeks, is currently topped by Gokyo Locos who rose more than 700,000 places on his long march to the top. The code to join this FPL league 459213-545168.

Patrick Star retains his lead in Fifa Las Vegas’s 28-strong league, with a score of 154, closely followed by Messimerized with 151. In joint third on 144 points are MB10 and Somebody’s Gonna Get Lit Up.

Thomass67 and Peppie and Felix’s  league is split into three  groups and topped by Thomass, Daniel and Forca Inter.

The leaders of In Tommy We Trust’s five leagues are ENR, RDB007, Forca Inter, Mind Over Mata and Chazza.

Forca Inter also topped Torres Magic’s Last Man Standing and Early Bird leagues. In the Early Bird league, 349 managers remains after 200 were knocked out, while in the Last Man Standing League, 995 are left after 43 Fantasy managers were sent packing. Entries are still open for the Early Bird League.

In the FFS UEFA leagues, Tommy Tour, the manager of Real Madrid, registered the highest score of the round, with a haul of 75 points.

The most closely fought battle in the week was in their Bundesliga league where The Shadow beat Jack off Attack by just one point. Elsewhere in their leagues , The Light Knight’s Norwich continued to maintain a stronghold on FFS UEFA’s weekly Order of Extreme Valour Award, opted to those who make the most left field choices. He opted for a 5-2-3 formation, which saw both Leighton Baines and Emmanuele Giaccherini pitching in with nine points each. His cumulative score, 67 points, was more than enough to beat the dullard team of his unfortunate opponent Jonty by 11 points.

Some late FFS UEFA news that missed last week’s round up from Gameweek 1 involved the group’s second Super Cup, in which 2012/13’s Europa League winner Acquafresca emerged triumphant 88-76 against last season’s Champions League winner MJ6987.

Meanwhile, the The FFS UEFA Transfer Window Simulation (TWS) comes to a grand finale this week with the TWS End of Season Party on Monday  September 2nd at 20:00 BST, in which team vacancies will be filled by auto-select in a live interactive draw, leaving each team’s fate up to their random number selection. The Shadow‘s Norwich is hotly pursued by a chasing pack of Zep‘s Arsenal, PeppieandFelix‘s Fulham and 4Vets‘ Liverpool. FFS UEFA also tell us that a brand new competition will be launched immediately after the TWS concludes.

In Doosra and Ginkapo’s It’s a Long and Winding Road competition the main league leader is still Back on the Horse. Meanwhile, the leaders of their H2H leagues are: TommyTour, Turbo Dog, MsRed19, Beric, Doolittle, Dino, Konig Luther.

A lot of people here think that Aguero and Negredo will start for City thus week. Am I missing something that Pellegrini has said or done to suggest that Dzeko will not start?

The difference is that the game was won against Newcastle when Aguero came off. Against Cardiff they were searching for a winner when Dzeko came off. I think it's 50/50 between Negredo/Dzeko, maybe 60/40 for Dzeko.

Yeah, Negredo was waiting on the halfway line and the ref accidentally flashed the sub numbers on his board thing. While they were waiting for the ball to go out he got a cut lip or something.

See Berbilly above...he as about to be subbed and it took an age to do that...in that time he got a cut. Was nowhere near as bad as the one I saw in the Fenarbache game this week and that chap carried on. I don't think the bleed was a factor at all.

he didn't say anything.. But isn't it the best GW to start Negredo? Vs Hull at Home?? They bought Negredo as their first choice Forward.. But because Dzeko had such an amazing Preseason he has been handled the first Role... Lats week He was poor (Even if he scored), and when negredo entered he was dynamite... Therefore imo he'll start..

The truth is we don't know. No one does except Pellegrini. Two of Aguero, Negredo and Dzeko will start most weeks. Of this trio Ageuro is safest as he is more flexible and can be a provider as well as the scorer. This is the price Dzeko and Negredo owners pay.

One will start, one will come on in the 60th minute. There's a huge upside of getting them in, in that they are both good strikers who can score hattricks against weaker sides in theory. The downside is a 20 minute cameo and 1pt. Those who own them know that, hopefully accept it and enjoy the ride.

That is true...not ideal though. I'm still of the school of thought that wants my key players to be guaranteed starters. I can't handle the Man City striker rollercoaster...that's why I've gone for the safety of assist or two a game Silva. His 5-10 pts a match will come in handy week in week out.

At least 7.5 for dzeko takes the sting out the tail if he doesn't start. Plus he had a good record of scoring coming off the bench last year.

        So, not all bad.

Still, i'd rather have a guaranteed starter up front as no-one is firing in the midfield department yet which are a drain on funds.

But you miss nothing. Sheer speculation.

Being subbed means little. Managers tend to always sub attackers.

Simply got fresher legs on with that one. Dzeko scored. And guess at who plays is just a guess in my view.

I've had Negredo from the start, as thought Aguero wouldn't be quite ready with no pre-season (after having him the whole time).

I'm holding at moment, as in fairness, he got me a goal off the bench last week and Benteke is obviously on a blank this week and transfer deadline may bring up a better option.

I have a feeling that Negredo will start instead of Dzeko as it's his "turn", as obviously Dzeko needs to think he has a chance at playing so he does fell wanted and part of the squad and deserved to be there on pre-season. Like others said it's a good game to give Negredo a start.

But that's just me personal feeling and hoping it may actually make his acquisition come good and get me my value lost back 🙂

I had also watched a Youtube clip of Negredo's goals and his finishing is awesome!

I never usually trust Youtube videos of players, but really liked what I saw with him so took him as a punt and also thought if he was sharp out of the blocks his £9.5 price would rise quick to take him out of reach.

More clean sheets, more assists, fewer goals.

Also makes Oviedo an interesting option as a 5th mid for £4.4m. Reverse OOP but ought to be good for some assists and even goals.

Bookies also adjust odds on betting.

I can't see Negrado, Dzeko and Aguero all scoring goals this weekend - along with Silva and Yaya. They're just covering themselves because people are going to load up on betting on City goals.

Not a step backwards either. A utility back is something we needed and will hopefully mean we won't have to play players like frimpong, of course it's not the star signings we where promised and we need but our squad is so thin this has to be seen as decent.

Everyone will mock but I think thats a decent signing, no transfer fee and £50k a week, he will be a good squad player, just need 2 or 3 big signings now.

What do people make of Eto'o to Chelsea?

He's not very good these days, but neither are Chelsea's current crop of forwards, plus they can play with Schurrle and Hazard there. So will it just be a case of staying away from all of them all season..?

They should just go out and buy a world class striker, if possible. However, it only seems like Man C and Spurs are able to get the job done.

That said, happy about an Eto'o comeback! 😀 Favorite player by far not too long ago. Won't be the same but maybe he's got still some good stuff to show. (Zero Fantasy interest, though)

Ill always remember that match against Barca when etoo was almost a defender :D.. he's a Mourinho's Soldier.. That's why he's here... jose loves this kind of stories "I Brought back Etoo to Life!!".. "I'm a General n I Can win with my Veteran Army (Terry, lamps etc..)"..
If he could he'd bring Drogba back too..

None of these look great to me tbh, none are showing good early season form. I'd go with B as Snodgrass hasn't started and will improve Norwich when he does and Morrison could now be playing behind the striker. I've got Mirallas but not impressed so far

    Hi,

Please tell me advice on what trade(s) I should make and the formation seeing Toure is out:

    Boruc (Cech)
Def: Chester, Turner, Zabaleta, Toure, Coleman
Mids: Snodgrass, Walcott, Silva, Morrison, Mirallas
    Forwards: RVP, Dzeko, J-Rod

I currently have 0.5 mill in the bank.

    Thanks in advance

Keep your FT this week, see if RM plays and if not upgrade to Brady from Hull the week after (Cardiff at home). Your team looks well balanced.

    Team for GW3:

    Mignolet
    Koscielny - Collins - Murner - Shaw
    Walcott - Mirallas - Snodrgrass
    Aguero(c) - Soldado - Sturridge

Bench: Davis - Hazard - Morrison - Chester

    1FT, 0.5 in bank

Stick or twist? Am tempted to get Nolan, but should I give Snodgrass/Mirallas one more week?

I would hang on and consider not wild carding next week either. Its a good team which will look a lot better come Monday. WCing in the break can be a good TV play but since you have RVP, Benteke, Wally, Studge and Silva already, you don't have many players to play that game with

Looks like it, yes... I'm keeping because a) I have other more pressing transfers, b) there are hardly any decent options around his price and c) it looks hopeful that it'll all be sorted. If he plays regularly, he could be head and shoulders above all others around 5.5m.

I don't think so. I think that's just in lieu of not having anything specific to go on. Liverpool will have a presser today or tomorrow and announce the extent of the damag. Then his flag will change.
