Injuries to some of the Premier League’s biggest stars have dominated discussion amongst the community, with wildcards and hits falling like confetti. We also catch up on those in far better health in our community leagues.

Hottest Topic

Greenwindmill posed a timely question this week. Given injuries to Christian Benteke and Theo Walcott (and with Robin Van Persie still a doubt for the weekend), our moderator contemplated just how we judge whether a hit is worthwhile or not. Among those to answer was Brutus619, who puts forward a good case for hits and an even better case for inclusion in a forthcoming Scoutcast Full Jonty.

Many Fantasy Football managers almost fainted when they saw Robin Van Persie had been handed a 14m price tag in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) this season. But even though other strikers such as Olivier Giroud have outscored him for a fraction of his price, Jonny believes his price may have been perfect. His reasoning is that despite a volatile market in the last two weeks  in the FPL game, RVP’s ownership has remained relatively steady. Could he remain 14m for the rest of the season? Even though he missed last Sunday’s Manchester derby, RVP has still not dropped in price this week.

For those considering drafting in Romelu Lukaku as a replacement for the likes of Van Persie or Benteke, Blue Lion’s post will prove fruitful reading. With another loan move under his belt the young striker looks prime for points, he argues. This was certainly the case against West Ham.

Wakey’s regular Falling Stars posts offer a welcome antidote to those of us with jerky knees, looking to transfer out poor performers. Each week he profiles a selection of players who have dropped in value to show how sometimes it is worth hanging on to unfashionable players. Stephane Sessegnon, who is 0.3m cheaper than his starting price, is among his pick of the Gameweek 5 Falling Stars.

HeelsOverHead has been delving into the history books to see which of the current crop of Premier League players have the best track record of hattricks and braces. Turns out there are nine current Premier League players who managed a hat-trick last season. Find out who they are here.

The penny has long since dropped that the bonus point system favours defenders. But could this mean we experience the first season where defenders become the highest scorers in FPL? Going into Gameweek 5 Ryan found that nine teams had a defender as their highest scoring player. Will this still be the case at the end of the season?

One of this week’s most popular hot topics, with 30 votes at the time of writing, was Portsmouth Bubblejet’s epic look at the best rotation options over the coming weeks. Certainly plenty to ponder there as we look to prepare our teams for the weeks ahead.

Community Leagues

HeelsOverHeads’ Worst To First – 2 Million+ Club, for teams with an overall rank below 2,000,000 in the first five Gameweeks, now has five out of the 23 teams that entered in the top 1,000,000. Bales of Fury continues to lead the league with an overall rank of 344,013.

In Thomas and Peppie&Felix‘s Friends Life competition the three league leaders are Forca, Daniel and Thomass.

Meanwhile, the five league leaders in In Tommy We Trust’s All Things…. leagues are TheRealAVB, Tommy Tour, LawnDart, Mind over Mata and Binij.

LawnDart topped Torres Magic’s Early Bird league with a score of 64. Just 14 survivors remain, but entry is still open for more to join. In his Last Man Standing league 847 are left.

Those successfully traversing the It’s A Long And Winding Road (LAWR) H2H leagues are TommyTour59, Turbo Dog, IAmSuarez, Beric, Super Hans, ManAmongst and DonTheSpecialOne. TommyTour59 is also the LAWR main league leader.

Elsewhere, the 552-strong UEFA FFS FA Cup kicks off this week with its preliminary round. Team allocations and the Preliminary Round Draw will be posted on the FFS Uefa website by Friday, Sept 27.

    Mignolet Lewis
    Chester Ivanovic Vidic Yanga Zabaleta
    Brady Moses WP Barfa Lampard
    Giroud Benteke RVP

My team in a mess. 3 injured and 2 non-starter. My plan for this week will be:
    Yanga ➡ Wilson
    Lampard ➡ Michu / Ozil
    Benteke ➡ Suarez
    RVP ➡ Rooney

All transfer will be -12 points. Sensible?

I bought Enrique last week only for him to be benched. Wildcarded this week and took him out... but now after he played left mid considering him again!

Any idea why he was dropped and if it is likely to happen again?

Thanks for info. Tbh with Liverpool playing no cup football or Europe, this is probably OK... should get a week's rest every game from now.

As a Southampton fan I'm lucky they rested him last week, but not as an Enrique owner!

Keep in mind that Liverpool just bought two right backs specifically because of Enrique's erratic play. He can be inspired at one moment and comically bad the next; that fact was on display in today's COC match.

Of course, Cissoko is injured, and if Rodgers continues with this 3 full back 2 wing back formation than should may be room for everyone, but you may want to consider other options long-term.

    A) Chester -> Evra/Baines(c)
    B) Walcott -> Michu
    C) Soldado -> RVP/Rooney(c)

    Boruc
    Zabaleta, Terry, Toure
    Mirallas, Nolan, Ramsey, Morrison
    Soldado, Sturridge, Giroud

    Davis, Ward, Chester, Walcott

    Rooney v Suarez?

I know this week Rooney is a better captain option, but suarez is still odds on to score v sunderland with the bookies

next week I'd want Suarez v Palace, and after that I marginally prefer pool's fix

This is why I'm edging towards Suarez. Thoughts?

    Question.

When using your Wildcard do you pick a team and plan transfers (which rarely works out as planned) ie. planning on taking out Baines and Brady in 2 weeks.

    or

do you pick your team for the next 10 or so weeks and leave the transfers to hop on bandwagons and incase of injuries?

At this stage of the season I think the key is to get the team set up for the medium term, planned transfers nearly always get overtaken by events and you get stuck with an under performing player who you only wanted for 1 or 2 fixtures whilst you prioritise your transfers elsewhere. Anyone who WC last week with a planned transfer for this week can probably testify to that as instead they are dealing with benteke, Walcott Rvp etc

Usually a mix. Dead certs from big teams to keep for the year like Migs, Ivanovic, Ozil. Players with a good run of fixtures for the next 4/5 games - Michu, Rooney or other Swansea, Utd, Arsenal players etc. And lastly a few punts if they look promising like Arnautovic or Wilson -but these punts would also have to have good fixtures really.

its amazing how in this game you can be sailing along nicely feeling a bit smug and then in the space of 1 gameweek a few injurys you've had a shocking week, plumiuted down the league and you look at your team and it s a mess.

Whats the thinking on RVP - will he play this week. Brought in Rooney as I plan to drop RVP anyway but now consdiering doing RVP to either Giroud or more likely Suarez for a 4 point hit.

    Thoughts?

Change of manager effect always makes me nervous as so unpredictable. I would rarely captain a player playing away to a team that has just lost their manager as is the case for Liverpool this week. If they get a new manager by next week I will avoid Man U as well.

not fond of any of those for a hit

Thanks for the replies both of you. I worded it poorly, I actually have to play 2 from those 3. Who would you play after Barkley out of Eriksen and HBA?

Boruc slightly. Think Sunderland will lose but they still have a bit of attacking threat.

Have Boruc and if I had to decide, will still go for Boruc. Fixture-wise, not too bad.

    Boruc

    Coleman Baines Fonte

    Ozil Ramsey Yaya Michu

    Rooney(C) Lukaku Giroud

Subs: Marshall - Brady Wilson Burner

Is this a generic team? Haven't been around these forums for a week or two thanks to college..

    Benteke > Lukaku ?

Without doing this I'll have Lampard playing in a 3-5-2

Any suggestions for a defender under 5.8? Have Mariappa, Dawson, Wilson and Evra. I'm looking at Gibbs. Coleman gives me the impression he may not continue the form.

Toure has been fielded on the right while G. Johnson is out but, I don't expect Rogers to spend what he did on Sakho to sit him on the bench.

Further, Sakho has logged the full 90 in the last two league matches & the cup game today.

Hey, if he doesn't work out once G. Johnson returns then he's an easy 'sideways' transfer to Nastasic, Chiriches, or Ferdinand.

    RMT /10:

    GK: Mignolet (Harper)
DEF: Walker, Vidic, Shaw, Koscielny (Baker)
MID: Ozil, Michu, HBA (Brady) (Ward-Prowse)
    ATT: Rooney (C), Giroud, Soldado

*Will play Brady over walker this week
**I'mcontent to maintain faith in Soldado as I believe he will start scoring soon

Ratings appreciated, if possible feedback would be nice also.

That is true, and that would be ideal, but that isn't a necessary transfer right now. I have the capacity to play a 4-3-3 or a 3-4-3, so that is essentially just my 5th mid who wouldn't be required in the majority of circumstances.

Hazard is a bold choice I wouldn't make, although if he does do what currently appears and unlikely and spring into form then it could be a great differential. H/ever, at the moment, especially on a WC, I wouldn't pick him, somebody like Michu (yes I know he is the popular pick) is in much better form and much more likely to score points at the moment, for a lower price. The rest of your team looks pretty nice though.
