Heavy-hitting forwards delivered handsomely in Gameweek 9 and have come under considerable scrutiny as Fantasy managers look to freshen up their front lines. We also look at the oldest question in Fantasy Football history and catch up on all the action from our community leagues.

Hottest Topics

Reckoner – Early Trees Down has been pondering whether Wayne Rooney is worth his price tag. For that price he wants the prospect of braces and hat-tricks every now and again, but his research shows the Manchester United forward wanting. Read his analysis here to find out which players are the most likely to garner monster gameweek scores.

Sergio Aguero is another heavy-hitting forward attracting attention this week. Agbonlahorse warns that the Argentine forward may find himself substituted off the pitch earlier than many of his new owners anticipate when Manchester City host Norwich at the weekend, though. With a key Champions League match to play just days later, his analysis shows that Aguero is often found riding the pine in domestic matches before crunch European games.

Ahead of last weekend’s games Smarty Pants spent some time delving into the top 1000 in the Fantasy Premier League game. His research shows that among the most transferred out players inthis elite group were  Manchester City’s Pablo Zabaleta and Yaya Toure as well as Everton’s Ross Barkley.

With so many bargains in midfield and Romelu Lukaku also delivering up front does team value really matter as much this season? Among those to answer this question posed by Triggerlips were Zepinho who describes chasing transfer value this season with points hits as “folly.”

JohnDavies asked which so-called Comeback Kings among the Premier League’s injury list would tempt the community once they regain fitness. Fred Quimby has his eye on Philippe Coutinho, while Quish_ is ready and waiting to draft in Theo Walcott when he returns.

Finally one of the oldest questions in Fantasy Football popped up again courtesy of Syn3rgy. Just how much is success down to skill and how much is governed by luck?

Community Leagues

In HeelsOverHead’s Worst To First – 2 Million+ Club, for teams with an overall rank below 2 million in the first five Gameweeks, there are now seven teams in the top 500,000. YOLO Toure leads their long march to the top with an overall rank of 156,282.

TorresMagic’s Early Bird League has concluded with LawnDart and Stephen Woods both failing to make the cut. They get the title of joint runners up. His Last Man Standing competition lost 44 managers this week, leaving 660 in a week where the safety score was 54. There are also five more competitions available to enter. Full details can be found here.

In Thomass and Peppie&Felix’s Friends Life competition Beric, Daniel and Al Pacino are the league leaders. All three have now qualified for the next round, as have Thomass, TW and Koing Luther.

Those topping InTommyWe Trust’s All Things leagues are La Roja, Chilin Dude, LawnDart, Crouch Potato, Binij and Col Nil Satis. The first round draw for his All Things 50 Quid cup competition has also been made.

The It’s A Long And Winding Road competition continues at a canter with Beric topping the main league as well as one of its seven H2H leagues. The other H2H league leaders are Evs, Gaz Downright, IAmSuarez, Super-Hans, Champ and Adam West.

FFS UEFA’s Beach Soccer World Cup tournament’s first game proved disappointing for the Fantasy Football Scout moderator and contributor dominated Ukraine side who were soundly thrashed by Senegoal. The other winners were Spain, Tahiti, El Salvador, Iran, Solomon Islands, Paraguay and Japan. For more about the competition visit our dedicated article here.

Elsewhere in the FFS UEFA competitions their FA Cup tournament is now down to 40 players who will be joined by 24 Conference Premier players this weekend. Special mention goes to Spike and his giant killing Formby team, which is the only remaining 10th tier side in the competition.

    mingolet out,myhill in for -4.
already have boruc; two of them rotate exceptionally well and heading to great fixtures.
this will also increase funds so I can possibly get johnson in.

Don't fully agree with the "never take a hit for a defender" theory. There are occasions it has it's merits, plus gks are a differant kettle of fish.

well, what if you take -4 for defender and he scores e.g. 9 points (CS and 3bps)
is that considered as a wasted transfer?
in this time and age,it's somehow uncertain your forwards will bring you more points than defenders and particulary mids.

Well, in your particular case I think Boruc is arguably the better option anyway. More generally, no that wouldn't be a waste of 4 points (assuming that the player you transferred out for a hit didn't score 5 or more) but the 'rule' exists for a reason and that reason is that the scenario you've described is largely the exception.

There are some exceptions, e.g. if it gives you the funds to significantly upgrade elsewhere (I don't think GJ away to Arsenal counts btw), you can't play 11 men (in which case it's potentially a -2) or you're catching an essential price rise. On its own merits though, I've rarely seen a hit on the defence pay off. Just my view of things.

              appreciate the thought.
I didn't want to transfer GJ in this week though.I just thought it will leave me with this possibility.
On the other hand,I shipped chester for olsson for -4 last week and I think it has payed off (CS at home,6pts).He can be rotated well for the upcoming fixtures and it nearly cost me nothing.

Feeling a little better about dumping Giroud for Aguero. with Olly looking like he is going to drop tonight & utd away on the horizon he could be due to drop again. Looking like i'll be able to get him back without to much of a loss when the fixtures ripen up. Unless he tears Liverpool a new one that is

In same boat - I swapped them yesterday... Giroud's next 4 games don't really look profitable to me (so he will probably get 40 points the way my season has been going)

Whereas on the otherhand, Aguero's next 4 look tasty, and he doesn't need fixtures to score massive points anyway, all he needs is to be on the pitch 🙂 With City's respective league & champions league situations, shirley Pellegrini won't entertain the thought of resting him for premiership games.

        2 team decisions this week:
Boruc (stoke a) or Myhill (Palace H)

Just post again before I go to bed ( I'm in AU)

        Michu (C)

        He is due.

        Plus massive differential.

Aguero to be substituted after 60 mins, regardless of score.

And I'm not kidding. Captained Zaba in gameweek 3 and was 1700 in the world.

        Michu out for Silva

        OR

        Giroud out for Aguero

Rival has tripple Saints defence and 3 Arsenal and 3 Liverpool.

Stoke to score and Liverpool vs Arsenal 0-0 would be hilarious.

Who to start this week - R.Morrison v. AVL or Lampard @ NWC ? Leaning to Morrision, thinking West Ham may score a couple v. Villa, whereas I think Chelsea may struggle to break Newcastle down + Lampard is playing deep these days and playing the connect-the-dots midfield role.

I'm banking on a Chelsea demolition job against Newcastle, they (New) played extra time last night and Chelsea played a second 11 against Arsenal and won. I can see Chelsea laying it down now and banging in a few, Torres looks as likley to be back for good now as he ever has, if he ain't back now he never will be.

Thanks BTB. Been a little disillusioned with Lampard this season. It's a pretty sad point where I am pondering sitting a legend for a kid in a side who hardly score. Villa at home though . . .
You've got a point on a long night for NWC last night and may have some tired legs.

        1) Play it safe: Barfa > Silva, bench Townsend. Gives me City attacking cover.

        2) Play it bold: Sturridge > Aguero. No Liverpool cover but get Suarez next week for RVP. Will mean a midfield of Townsend, Morrison, Ozil and Ramsey this week though.

There really is an abudance of strikers this year isn't there? You could easily come up with 3 or 4 different lethal frontlines from the pool of elite strikers out there... Timing the switches between them correctly will go a long way to a high overall rank this year I think... not sure a strategy of keeping any of them for a season will work??

In terms of pure point scoring ability I would rank them as:

        1. Aguero
        2. Suarez
        3. RVP (Becuase of pens over Rooney)
        4. Rooney
        5. Sturridge
        6. Benteke
        7. Giroud

Not that it's likely to ever happen but I wonder how it would change this game if you could accumulate FTs indefinitely (beyond the current 2 maximimum)? Here's a few opinions:

        1. People would start to make far fewer transfers early on, saving FTs up to have an effective '3rd Wildcard' late in the season.
        2. Everyone would Wildcard within the first 4 weeks.
        3. Aside from perhaps the first month, player prices would fluctuate less due to fewer transfers in the first half of the season and less active players in the second - making the 'TV Strategy' more challenging.
        4. The number of -4 hits would decrease enormously.
        5. Assuming sufficient value, Home and Away Rotation for certain positions could be 'virtualised' through weekly transfers once enough FTs have been accumulated.
        6. We'd have a lot of debates about the merits of making regular transfers vs saving transfers in bulk.

Any other thoughts on this admittedly a bit pointless question?
