Our latest Numbers Game article for Members focuses on the two sides dominating our transfer activity going into the weekend. Spurs and City are the benefactors of the last double gameweek of the season and face off next Tuesday in a game that could yet decide a Champions League place.

With so many of their players under consideration ahead of Saturday’s deadline, we delve into the Members’ OPTA data to examine their team and player statistics over the past four gameweeks and the season as a whole. There’s plenty to digest, providing ample reading matter for bedtime or over tomorrow’s breakfast…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Cannot believe I am considering to bench Drogba for O'Hare

    Begovic (Foster)
    Dawson Kolarov Djourou (Smalling, Luiz)
    Lampard, VDV, Silva, Yaya (O'hare)
    RVP, Drogba, Odem

If you think he is not going to do well, go right ahead man. It'll be quite the differential.

Do not take a hit to begin with. Also, Dempsey to VdV is a strong move. Seems like you're in fine shape against him this week.

Thanks mate. Unusual season, I am finishing much higher than last 2 seasons. But have taken 8 pt hit four times this year compared to none past 2 years.
Dempsey -> VDV then for me.
Also, my captain success %age is a lowly 40% this year (on that script)

Seems like wishful thinking. Are you chasing a lead or protecting. If you're looking for a cheeky differential, Defoe could be your guy, but remember he is not guaranteed to start.

If I was going to get a "dgw" striker it would probably be defoe even though it's highly unlikely he'll start both games. My hunch is spurs will play 4-4-2 vs blackpool and defoe could get a nice haul. Then he'll probably be benched for city but could nick something in a 20 min cameo.
You wouldn't want him after this gw though so I wouldn't bother. He's a gamble that could pay off for 1 week though.

your rival will bring in VDV for walcott, possibly downing which means you are still 3 DGW players ahead of them
Captain VDV when yopu bring him in and if they do the same then you still have the players to bridge the gap and if not then they will be wishing for a VDV low score so either way you're ahead
If they decide to take a 4 pointer, then there's your gap already and you are still ahead
If YOU take a 4 pointer, then maybe get Hart in and your team will be ballistic

a couple questions if anyone is out there, my squad is:

    Mignolet

    Kolarov, Walker, Simpson

    Lampard, VDV(c), Silva, Dempsey, Toure

    RVP, Rooney

    (Luiz, Carr, Gyan) -4 already

any news on Dempsey's injury? havent heard anything all week.
is Mignolet safe? no other options for Bruce?
Rooney should start the weekend I would think? reason to think otherwise?
Luiz over walker or simpson? May wind up not mattering if I keep squad as is.
    thanks in advance.

      2. I prefer to play Walker over Luiz. Good chance of a cleanie for Walker.

Morning FuzzyWarbles, Can I assume your other keeper is a non-starter? I think Mignolet is OK unless he really c*cks up and Gordon is dragged off his Zimmer frame. Rooney nailed on if fit!I don't know if his injury was real.
I've not heard about Dempsey update,so Friday afternoon I imagine.

Anyone else astounded more than ever, this season, at how good a manager Alex Ferguson is.

I honestly feel that many managers would struggle for top 4 with that squad of players - What Fergie has achieved this season is miraculous.

On the other hand, it's a shame he's such an idiot off the pitch... Saying that Arsenal 'got the decisions' in the last game was absolutely ridiculous, as usual (even his players and assistant admitted it!)...

but it seems that fergie and mourinho are both happy to be delusional in their press conferences, so perhaps it's just a very good tactic.

As annoying as it is I agree, he's a genius. The thing that most impresses me is how he's not restricted by a style of football. Over the years as star players leave and other ones join he seamlessly adapts the tactics and shape to suit the teams strengths.
Imo that's the key to how he's kept utd consistently at the top for so long without really suffering during re-building periods.
Mourinho is brilliant tactically but I don't think he'd be able to achieve what fergie has at one club.

I disagree! Not about Ferguson, but about the weak squad claim. I genuinely feel its arguably the best professional squad in Europe. However it is only such due to fergies intervention. Park, the da Silvas, John o shea, anderson, nani, carrick and arguably evra and vidic wouldnt be half the players without his coaching. But its the manner of his squad rotation, positive approach, faith in players (e.g. Gibson) and distinct approach to each game which puts him in a class of his own.

Have a small lead (15pts) in mini league with GBP700 to winner. Torn between protecting or taking a hit or just using my free:
    Foster(Begovic)
    Luiz/Huth/R Johnson
    VDV(c)/Lamps/Adam/Yaya'
    RVP/Sturridge/Suarez
    Nani Terry M Kelly

Terry to Cahill or to a dgw'er? Nani on bench after playing 90 last night ok?

15pts cannot be protected over one game let alone three, one different player can turn that round. So just go with the players you think will score best for longest. Good luck. 🙂

700gbp?! That's a hell of a minileague. I agree, no point protecting because he can easily overtake you and then you've just protected HIS lead!

Terry to lescott is a reasonable option as he's pretty sure to get 180 mins in the double. I would say bring silva in, but it depends what you think about rotation.

I don't know why everyone is talking about cahill - as someone who had a bolton defender for a while, i don't think I ever had a clean sheet! OK they might have easy fixtures but clean sheets are the exception for them.

I'd be tempted with nani for silva... But if chelsea win you might want nani back when theyre fighting for goal diff.

If you're confident in a manu draw/ win then that's a great transfer imo

Wouldn't trust Nani playing on Saturday tbh. You certainly don't need to take hits with that team. If anything, two CHS defenders gives you the chance to get rid of Terry for Dawson or Lescott.

I'm actually going off Citeh now with only Silva worth considering and now unlikely to play in the 2nd game of this gwk. Thinking Hamburger.

talk about shit stirrer haha. But tosey knows his methods are 'controversial'

The 'rules' people make regarding doubling/ tripling up etc are actually ridiculous in my opinion... Unless you're playing a head to head league.

If team A is likely to keep a clean sheet than team B and C, I'd rather have AAA than ABC, without a doubt.

There are a lot of intuituve rules that don't actually have logical reasoning and theyre always pointed out when people discuss fantasy football.

also you picked teams who rotate well so it's logical. Not sure if i'd have the balls to do that method though!

Maybe i'd be tempted to have multiple teams, with different combos of trebles... but that's just cheating!!

I really dont know mate. I am tempted to bet celtic even though it'd be dirty money. Celtic have the tougher run in away to hearts away to dundee utd and home to motherwell, Kayal has a suspected broken wrist and Lennon has publically slated all his defenders so may change the back line. so on that, i'd let it run, but I may be looking at the situ with some bias.

You mean that McGregor save 😉 I agree, although I thought we deserved more than a draw from the game. Lennon is a bottle merchant, when its came down to a need to win game they've blown it. Ross county last year, Braga, Utrecht, Rangers (final), ICT last night. I hope they finish 2nd in the league an motherwell win the scottish cup. The rivalary up here has never been so feirce and seeing them win f*ck all would be one of the greastest footballing moments of my life. 😀

depends how lucky you feel. At this stage of the season there are usually a few surprising lineups so it's good to have a bench of sorts

I don't think that would be a disastrous transfer - I keep thinking someone will extinguish odemwingie but he's still on fire

I've been taking a lot of hits but mostly for dgw players, because the extra game immediately reduces the actual hit (this player doesnt need to perform miracles to return your 4 points - just perform reasonably well)

Unfortunately there arent many decent dgw strikers.. Maybe coleman - lescott/ dawson if you can afford it?Then I'd bench one of your current defenders for him...

              Just cringe if coleman starts!

think an outfield player is your priority since they can replace any one of your injured/ rested players.

Anyway i'm off to play football good luck!

For all those that warn against a point hit!

Last week i made 3 transfers. 8 point hit
    Took out Rooney 1pt
    Barton 2pts
    Carroll 1pt

If i made no transfer i would have got 4pts

    I put in

    Suarez (captain) 24pts
    Odemwingie 6 pts
    Silva 5 pts

Minus the transfer deductions = 27 points...23 ahead of not twisting. Why is everyone on this site so ****ed about taking hits? Its absolutely nuts.

Sure. By many accounts if u have a slender lead then making subs isn't always the best idea. BUT you should if:

        1. You can't field 11 players
        2. You are putting in a dead cert for captain
        3. DGW's...as we saw with dempsey the other week...and it cuts your risk in half.

Every time someone on here wants help with subs they face a barrage of 'don't do it', 'WTF don't takea hit', 'the apocalypse will start if you take a 8 point hit'.

This week i'm going to put in modric n yaya...maybe even dawson too. i know i'll make more with these than dempsey, adam, terry and a deduction.

Terry and Adam will very likely outscore Modric/Dawson next week though. So even if you make up for your 8pt hit this week, a low score next GW might more than offset it

Here are some example of less trades from GW23 onwards with better results.

          151K-1.7K http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/entryhist.mc?id=1601281

          286K-11K http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/entryhist.mc?id=820198

The 2nd wildcard is also a massive factor. GW24 got you a 70K jump & set your team up well for the following GW.

I can't decide if any DGW players are worth it?

i'm keeping him this week, as nothing to lose (although potentially nothing to gain). Everyone in my mini league has him. I have other transfers i'd prefer to make.

next week though I plan to ship him and Bent out for Drogba and a 7m or under mid Hitzelberger maybe. It's all about the last three games as a whole and nani is unlikely to play three more games for United...Two, tops.

Too few Spurs players? I don't really want to do Adam->Modric and bench Kuyt, or Kuyt->Modric, but should I still?

    Or even Drogba->Pav?

Any changes would require a 4 pt. hit, already done Dempsey->Silva

You have 3 DGWers probably enough I reckon.

4 DGWers, actually: Lescott, Yaya, Silva, VDV(c):)

          Yeah, could be enough.

Ooooh, not sure how I missed that, but four is plenty I would think. Some teams in my mini leagues got loads of Fulham/Stoke players for the double and are now facing having to take more hits to get rid for their difficult run-ins.

I had Etherington and Zamora for the last DGW myself, didn't exactly work out as planned 😉

Quite fancy Huth for the last game,so he can fill a bench spot till then for me.

The likely return of Tevez against Spurs might have an effect on the possible output of both Toure and Silva. Certainly has all but ruled out the likelihood of having both i reckon.

more likely to lead to Silva on the bench than toure. Hard to predict, but Silva's big scores have only really come while Tevez has been out, whereas Toure got a few with Tevez in the side.

I've got toure and I'll leave it at that for now re Man city.

With Tevez coming back AJ could be the one to miss out with something like this:

        Tevez
        Silva Toure Balotelli
        Barry De Jong

If the last game is anything to go by,good job AJ could be out, not passing, greedy and unproductive. The first two can be forgiven but not in concert with the third.

Hey all, my first post and already asking for help...

This is only my first season ever doing a fantasy team and it has taken over my life!

I missed the transfer window last week so looking at making a 12pt hit to accomodate the DGW. What do you reckon to the following team selection?

    (Currently)
    Begovic/Robinson
    Simpson/Luiz/Huth/Terry/Smalling
    Adam/Kuyt/Kalou/Nani/Dempsey
    Rooney/Odemwingie/RVP

    (Proposed)
    Hart
    Simpson/Luiz/Zabaleta
    Kuyt/Kalou/VDV(c)/Silva
    Rooney/Odemwingie/RVP

    Begovic/Adam/Huth/Smalling

Obviously, want to get a few DGW players in but i'm struggling on the DGW defender; Zabaleta/Lescott/Dawson/Kolorov ???

Any help would be much appreciated,
    Cheers

not a DGW that I would be taking a 12pt hit on.
Maybe just Nani and Dempsey for VDV and Silva.
I don't expect any of the DGW defenders to keep a clean sheet.
completely up to you but 12pts is a big hit

I'm gonna need Hart in though as 4 teams in my league (2 teams either side) all have Hart. I cant risk letting him run away with loads of points? or do i take a punt on another keeper?

        Cheers

Right, I'm 40-odd points behind, and looking for some good differentials to gain some ground over dgw, Current squad is:

    Foster/Beg
    Kolarov, Luiz, RJ, Huth, Ivan
    Adam, VdV, Silva, Walters, Kuyt
    Roon, RVP, Zamora

Rival has made 2 transfers and likely brought in Yaya/Silva plus one other and wil captain VdV.

Any suggestions, thinking of bringing in Yaya for Kuyt and Defoe for Zamora. Any other ideas for drastic catchup?!

Pav more likely to to start than defoe and could score big against Blackpool if your chasing lead
