Last weekend saw the return of Jose Bosingwa to Premier League action after a year-long absence with a knee injury and the Chelsea full-back thoroughly impressed against Mick McCarthy‘s Wolves.

Although Chelsea have both Branislav Ivanovic and Paulo Ferreira as options for the right-back slot, Bosingwa is perhaps the best fit for Carlo Ancelotti’s system and the Chelsea boss admitted as much after the 2-0 win, saying:

Bosingwa was one the best players on the pitch. He put a lot of pressure on in the second half by pushing up without the ball and he had opportunities to score. For 70 minutes he played very well and he is an important player for us in the future because we can use his speed and resistance to play better in attacking play.

A look at this Average Position map from the Wolves game indicates there was not much positional difference between Ashley Cole (no.3) and Bosingwa (no.17) on Saturday and suggests that, within this system, Bosingwa can be expected to mirror the threat of Cole on the opposite flank every time he is selected.

As the Passing Heatmaps below also show, 40% of all Bosingwa’s passes were made in his opponent’s final third of the pitch, whereas only 32% of all Cole’s were. Given that Bosingwa made 50 passes and Cole made 38, it’s fair to say there was more of a threat coming down Chelsea’s right flank for a change.

As a result, Bosingwa made 2 Key Passes that led to Goal Attempts on Saturday, and considering that Cole has made 10 Key Passes in 9 games, it’s food for thought for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, bearing in mind the right-back comes in at £5.6m compared to Cole’s £8.2m. However, for those Fantasy managers giving him the once over, a word of caution: there’s no doubt that Ancelotti will take time in easing him back into the fold, and it’s perhaps worth waiting to see how things unfold over the next couple of gameweeks before diving in. Once his fitness is full, though, it’s feasible that Bosingwa’s impact could see him become a first-team regular if Ancelotti’s comments are anything to go by.

Bosingwa also managed 3 shots at goal and was perhaps unlucky not to find the net, denied by Marcus Hahnemann on a couple of occasions. This was an amount beaten only by Didier Drogba on the day and considering Ashley Cole has had 6 shots at goal all season, it’s further indication of his attacking prowess.

Somewhat bizarrely, despite lagging behind Bosingwa in such critical areas, Cole was still awarded all 3 FPL Bonus Points but if the right-back continues to perform as he did at the weekend, there’s no reason why he won’t soon be offering the kind of returns that saw him bag 156 FPL points a couple of seasons ago.

Fabianski must surely keep his spot for a while now? £4.8m makes him great value if so.

    Hi all.

I'm thinking of the following changes:

    Konchesky-Malouda-Anelka > Bosingwa-Fabregas-Hernandez.

Any thoughts? Is bringing in Hernandez too much of a knee jerk reaction? Also deciding when to make the changes in light of the fact that as things stand the above changes would leave me no money, so any increases in values would scupper that plan!

    Help would be appreciated.

Is it worth getting in Hernandez for Berbs? Enables me to keep Nasri and bring in Fabs for Barton. I'm a bit concerned that Hernandez won't start though once Rooney is back.

    A) Bale > Fabregas
    B) Malouda > Fabregas + Hleb > Arteta (-4pt)

With A) I'll have +-46m invested in only 4 players (Tevez, Drogba, Malouda, Fabregas).
I'm not to keen on losing Malouda, but Everton have some nice fixtures and Hleb was a bad punt. So it would be a good time to do it.

          Hush up fool. 😉

Who are you getting rid of for Elmo and Baines anyway? Sunderland's fixtures are fine, and Elmo is becoming unavoidable right now. He'll inevitably score/assist soon, and it will hurt people without him a lot.

Everton's fixtures are cracking, they have no Europe to worry about, and are very solid defensively. Baines is also tearing it up in the Opta Stats, so I reckon he could score very well over the next month or two.

Konchesky and Toure have to make way. Toure might be back for Wolves, but I can see city conceding in their next 3, whereas Baines has cracking fixtures as you said. I was also planning on getting in Kolarov for Toure at some point, so can't be bothered losing money on Toure.

Konchesky I'm just plain tired of, too boring for my taste and Elmo provides much better value.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3ALwKeSEYs

They should score better than the two you're subbing out, especially with Fabregas' next fixtures. Arteta won't get much points apart from BPs, and Jagielka/Cahill may take them from him.

That can easily be fixed by doing Jara to Coleman -or Baines, or Vidic... anyone- if I wanted it. No problem losing a WBA defender, and is one of the other two thoughts I'd come up with (Elmander being the third).

Who missed out when Mikky Arteta returns though? Coleman was poop at Spurs and is a slight risk. Between him and Bily I reckon. Who was also poop. Surely Moyes won't go 4-4-2 now Saha is fit? Scrap that. Will never happen. And Saha will be injured by then.

If everyone else is confirmed fit (i.e. Adam and Tevez, basically) as they should be, I might just do it then.

It was the original plan after all, I just didn't like the idea of buying a maybe unfit player only for it to go on even longer than it already has. Which would be a bitter pill.

IMO in any circumstance, if uve doubled up in defence with any team, u either play both or neither, else whats the point in doubling up? Compound this with that u've doubled up on two defs in the strongest team in the league and you have ur answer.

So, Mancini says that Tvez is ok. Damn! He was the only way icould get Fabs in! Now i'm stumped! Can someone help?

I brought Bosman in for Jones last night so in order to get Fabs in a 8 point hit is on the cards.

It doesnt free up enoguh funds. The only 2 ways i can think of is Malouda and Dempsey to Fabs and 5m midfielder or Malouda and Tevez to Fabs and Chamakh.

Not sure its worth the hit but
Enrique out Simpson in saves you 0.6
Hahnemann out 4m keeper in saves you 0.5
Shawcross out Coleman in saves you around 0.4
      Malouda out Fabregas in?

Have you seen how well Enriqué is doing in the Opta Stats here? He's beating Cashley in virtually every category.

So where the hell are my token 3 BPs?!

Tiote totally deserved them though, you can argue with him if you like 😉
OPTA stats are one thing, but to be honest last season and this season Enrique has been excellent - but he does not provide any more goals or assists than Simpson, so for FPL is not worth the additional outlay.

Team this week for a 4 point hit ( just had to get rid of Konchesky, he was doing my head in!)

    Hart/(Foster)
    ACole/Elmo/Williamson/(ShawX/Jones)
    Fabregas(c)/Malouda/Nani/Adam/Nolan
    Drogba/Carroll/(Odemwingie)

Really feel I need less Newcastle, but will have to wait till next week.
Thinking of downgrading Cole or Hart too to bolster my attack??

    Should I or shouldn’t…

    Current team :
    Sorensen Carson
A Cole Simpson Elmo Foley Figueroa
    Nani Adam Ethers Malouda Nasri
    Drogba Carroll Berba

    Upgraded (or Downgraded) team :
    Robinson Carson
A Cole Simpson Elmo Bosingwa Johnson R
    Nani Fabregas VDV Malauda Nasri
    Elmander Carroll Berba

I can get an awesome mid plus some decent defender but need to sacrifice my Drogba.. worth it?

Think Berba has had his month in the sun?
Also I think its necessary to have 1 big hitter in each position so its easier to chop and change, so you need a Rooney/Torres/Drog I think??
