Harry Redknapp has this morning announced that Gareth Bale is unlikely to figure for Spurs again this season following the ankle injury sustained in the 1-1 draw with Blackpool on Sunday. In addition, Spurs will go into their second fixture of the gameweek at Eastlands tomorrow night with doubts over the fitness of Luka Modric who picked up a hip injury.

Bale’s injury is undoubtedly a major blow to Tottenham’s chances of earning the three points they need to claw back City’s advantage in the race for fourth place. Talking to press this morning, Redknapp’s prognosis on Bale’s injury was far from positive…

“He’s going for a scan, we’ll have to wait and see but it looks like he’s done his ankle ligaments…It was a bad ankle knock. I wouldn’t think he would play this season, it’ll keep him out now. It’s badly swollen so we’ll just wait and see what the damage is.”

In addition, the Spurs boss has concerns over the availability of playmaker Luka Modric. He is struggling with a hip problem and arguably, should he fail to make it, would be a bigger loss to the Spurs cause. The Croatian has been in outstanding form of late – he picked up the assist for Jermain Defoe’s eqauliser on Sunday but, more significantly, in the Fantasy Premier League game, Modric has amassed an impressive 13 Bonus Points over his last 8 league outings.

Modric picked up almost 40,000 new FPL owners going into Tottenham’s double gameweek, increasing his ownership to 4.5%. As for Bale, he gathered over 63,000 new owners last week; those managers will now be faced with finding a replacement for Tottenham’s final two matches at Liverpool and at home to Birmingham.

Niko Kranjcar is likely to benefit from Bale’s absence and start in the Tottenham midfield against City. Should Modric fail to make it, and with Jermaine Jenas nursing a thigh injury, Rafael Van der Vaart may be forced into a deeper central midfield role which may restrict his potential.

Bad news all round for Fantasy Managers anticipating big returns from their Tottenham contingent in tomorrow night’s clash.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

42 points of leader, 450 pound cash prize, been fighting all season ten point gap before this week now 42 and i feel its over. He also uses the scout, copys most transfers and so on. Just have no idea were to go now. Team:

    Hart (Mignolet)
    Baines, Djouro, Luiz (Foley,
    VDV, Young, Adam, YaYa(Ohara)
    Drog, VP, Sturridge

Im thinking Young and VDV to Lamps and Nzog?

Maybe just Young to Lampard and (c) him.
It will save you 4 points and you will still have VdV for GW38 (BIR).

This is the issue. After the weekend I've spent today clamping down on comments that could spark abuse. Do it too much and folk like yourself accuse us of being touchy. It's a tough call but please allow me to be stricter for now at least - I'm trying to avoid arguments escalating.

            Maybe I'll relax again tomorrow.

It's not the actual arguing that most people care about, it's when it drags on for half a page. (admittedly I've probably been guilty of this a couple of times)

Agreed. I'm happy to let arguments kick-off - it's only when they roll on for a page or if they start getting littered with attacks. It just creates a hostile atmosphere when the vast majority of folk on here post fantastic contributions 100% of the time.

As you've seen though, stamp down too early on posts containing insults and discussion and banter gets stifled.

I'm tired and touchy today which doesn't help.

Assuming that Luiz gets dropped, a very safe assumption IMO, you're in deep do-da if Djourou also loses his place to Vermaelen.

I'd be looking at getting rid of Huth, Carroll and Luiz - unless Carroll has a stormer at the weekend.

Possibly a sideways movement, but for this week at least, Alex looks the best replacement for Luiz, given that he'll be doing exactly that in real life and Chelsea are probably the side most likely to keep a clean sheet this week.

I'd then either swap Barton for N'Zogbia, benching Carroll in the process, or just swap Carroll out for Rodallega and safe Barton for Newcastle's good fixture in the final week. Favouring the latter option just because Barton is actually playing at the moment, and Carroll isn't.

Nailed on, but he's hardly bringing in attacking returns at the moment. I suppose if you have the money to do it, then there's no harm in doing so, as he's definitely going to play and has a better chance of a clean sheet than anyone at the weekend.

He's back, but Liverpool are playing so well without him that there's no guarantee that he'll get back in the side. If he doesn't start tonight, then - unless Liverpool are awful tonight - I can't see him then starting at the weekend.

Alex should definitely play at the weekend, he was comfortably our best player in the second half against Utd, and Luiz was - and has been throughout his Chelsea career - a bit of a defensive liability. I guess there's a chance he could play RB, but could be between him, Ivanovic and Bosingwa for the role, so there's absolutely no guarantee.

I'm getting rid, for sure, probably for Alex.

Unless Mancini says something concrete on the matter, I don't think there's much sense in getting rid of Man City players before a home game with Stoke, because there's a *chance* that they could be rested. Once the final has happened, there's no real need to 'rest' the players, considering it's the penultimate game of the season, so I don't think widespread rotation is the certainty that people seem to think it is.

ha! I definitely wasn't giving up!

Have been toying with the idea of tripling up on one team for a while now, just because it generally should lead to getting one correct scorer, and all the West Ham lads had generous (although evidently not!) multiplier this week. As it happened, West Ham were rubbish and Ba + Keane both missed great chances at the end. If Keane had scored that sitter I'd have made some ground up on Torres Magic at the top, but it wasn't to be... 🙁

Thinking I will need to play the strategic game next 2 weeks now. Might just go the high multipliers & hope for the best.

Boo, wanted to see Carroll there. As long as Suarez scores more than Kuyt then it's all good & it's above 6 of course.

Ok the last time I bring up that England article, but seriously:

"And future England manager Alan Shearer must be rubbing his sensible hands together in glee at the pot of gold maturing before his very eyes. "

Fail in so many ways its barely possible. 😛

I had him the past two seasons and he always let me down. I swore I wouldn't get him this season. I would have loved his points haul over the last few weeks but just couldn't fit him in. I'm just lucky none of my rivals bought him either.
